Chapter 389: Always an Old Fox
The Grand Elder of the Gordons clan escorted the outer branch Elder of the Ancient Blaze Clan to the heart of Gordon’s Clan Main compound.
As they entered the hall chosen for the negotiations, a round table crafted from shimmering silver stood at the center, flanked by chairs of emerald green velvet with gold trim.
Soft, golden light emanated from floating orbs around the room, casting a warm glow on tapestries depicting ancient battles and painted constellations on the ceiling.
The Grand Elder seemed intent on displaying that the Gordons clan was not merely an ordinary Mid-Tier clan but one rich in history with a touch of wealth.
However, the elder sent by the Blaze Clan appeared unimpressed, prompting his query,
"So when will your Patriarch arrive so we may begin this discussion once and for all?, I grow impatient waiting for him."
"You need not worry about waiting," the Grand Elder assured,
"I will be your host, as I possess the same authority as the Patriarch, who serves as the clan’s figurehead at the moment, you can trust that I can make immediate decisions without any need for his presence."
"and I am eager to commence our business immediately," the Grand Elder stated, taking a seat as the fourth elder of the Gordons clan also settled in,
His gaze fixed on the outer branch elder of the Blaze Clan with a hint of hostility.
"Why must he be here?" questioned the outer branch elder, displeased by the fourth elder’s apparent disrespect towards him at the clan gates.
"You must understand that he plays a significant role in these negotiations," the Grand Elder explained with a slight smile.
"While I share authority with the Patriarch, I cannot go against his wishes, He insists on having our brother present as his eyes and ears for this meeting."
Upon hearing this, the fourth elder couldn’t help but face palm in disbelief at the unexpected turn of events.
The fourth elder thought to himself,
’This old geek could even lie against father, who is in the grave, and still be believed, even if the truth was right in front of everyone.’
The patriarch had never wanted anything to do with the Blaze Clan.
But It was the Grand Elder who had suggested seeking resources to cure old third from them, especially since they couldn’t bring the Third Elder back from his coma with there own resources.
The Grand Elder had planned the situation at the clan’s gate, anticipating the arrogant behaviour of the ancient Blaze Clan members, would make him act out, after all even Silas had behaved the same way when he came for Aurora.
And that’s why he had even ensured that The fourth elder would be present during the negotiations, hoping to sway the Blaze elder’s opinions.
"Okay, we want Silas Blaze back, What would it take for us to get our enforcer back to the clan?" The outer branch Elder finally spoke, making the Grand Elder smile slowly.
He had intentionally dragged the discussion so that the outer branch elder could state his demands first, He didn’t want to appear too desperate when asking for what he wanted, so he wanted the Blaze elder to make the first move.
He believed he could rely on the impulsive behaviours of the fire element mages to act up, especially those from ancient clans.
"We want the Dragon’s Heart Leaf!" The Grand Elder finally revealed his demand, causing the outer branch elder to react with shock.
Outer branch elder :
"What do you mean by asking for that in exchange for Silas?" the Elder raged out in response to the Grand Elder’s bold demand.
"Don’t misunderstand me, this is not just for the life of your senior enforcer, but also to compensate for your princess’s safety, by now, you must know that she stayed with us, under our protection, "
" You must take that into consideration, furthermore," the Grand Elder continued,
"when your enforcer came to take her back, he put her in danger, and we saved her life in the process, so, in light of all this, isn’t a Dragon’s Heart Leaf a fitting exchange for the life of your clan’s princess, if not less?"
"In fact, the only reason we have captured Silas is because he serves as collateral against your clan, as you all wouldn’t want to lose a Tier 8 Mage you have nurtured to this advanced stage, It’s not easy to reach that level in the high ranks," the Grand Elder said with a smile.
The outer branch elder felt like he was facing a lion that had opened its mouth to devour without any reservations, despite disguising itself as a nice man.
"I’ll have to discuss this with my fellow elders,"
The outer branch elder said, looking for an opportunity to escape from the Grand Elder of the Gordons Clan and moving towards another end of the hall.
He shielded himself with a mental force field and then brought out a Crystal Orb of Whispers to communicate with those who had sent him on the mission to retrieve Silas from the Gordons.
"You crazy bastard, you almost gave him a heart attack when you asked for that!" the Fourth Elder said to the Grand Elder, who smiled slyly.
"But believe me, we are going to get it, I’m sure of it," the Grand Elder confidently stated.
"How can you be so sure?" the Fourth Elder inquired.
"Because someone else will be paying for it, I have a few guesses as to who would be willing to settle this matter, but I can’t decide who will make the payment first, the good news is that we will be receiving the Dragon’s Heart Leaf, and our old Third Elder will recover to his peak without needing to go through all those post-recovery stages."
"The leaf is that potent, and that’s why I requested it personally, with the old Third Elder back to his former strength, the patriarch will return to normal, and the clan will be united and content again," the Grand Elder explained his plan to the Fourth Elder.
While the Fourth Elder and the Grand Elder were conversing, the outer branch elder received confirmation to agree to the trade, with someone set to deliver the Dragon’s Heart Leaf within the next three hours.
This news surprised him as he observed the Grand Elder’s confidence and self-assured demeanor as he engaged with the Fourth Elder.
It was evident to the outer branch elder that the Grand Elder was already aware that his request would be accepted.
"They have accepted, and you will receive the leaf within the next three hours," the outer branch elder conveyed in a hushed tone, noticing the widening smile on the Grand Elder’s face, which seemed to almost close his eyes due to the extent of his ecstatic expression.
"That’s fantastic!" the Grand Elder responded with satisfaction.
What do you think?
