Chapter 473: Chapter 21: The Immortal Luo En, Boundless Magical Power!
In the Arcadia Mountains.
The indignant, punitive expedition team followed the guidance of several veteran hunters, tracking the traces left by the magic beasts.
Perhaps due to the alterations brought by the Beast Disaster, the thorns and poisonous plants along the way were extraordinarily lush. Barely a few steps taken would lead to stepping on pale animal and human skeletons underneath dry branches and fallen leaves, with dried blood watering this land.
Seeing the scattered and broken remains of the victims around them, some were silent, some fearful, some filled with righteous indignation.
Ever since the Beast Disaster spread, all of Arcadia was plunged into turmoil, with many villagers who hadn’t managed to retreat into the cities facing the tragedy of their entire village being slaughtered.
And now, the blood debt committed by the magic beasts had been compounded.
The stout fir trees along the way shot straight into the clouds; the chaotic and slanting branches and leaves obscured most of the celestial light, leaving only dense darkness and the smell of blood.
Luo En, amidst the team, walked while frowning in thought, his eyes habitually scanning the surroundings, attentive to the nearby situation.
Suddenly, the corner of his eye caught a glimpse of a huge shadow passing through the thick mist, seemingly charging straight toward them. His pupils contracted slightly and in the blink of an eye, he pulled Medea in front of him behind his own body.
“Roar!”
An irate roar exploded in the forest, and a pair of cyan-black scaled claws swooped forward with a sharp whoosh.
A Wyvern?
Luo En’s eys narrowed slightly, the divine power within his body surged, and he grabbed the bronze spear he carried with him, hurling it forward.
The spear flew through the air like a bolt of lightning, tearing through the hard scales protecting the heart under the neck of the Wyvern from a tricky angle.
Amidst a harsh blast of Aether, a huge, gaping wound burst open. The dragon-beast’s frightened screams and struggles stopped abruptly as innards and blood poured out from the gap, falling stiffly into the woods with a dull roar.
With the crisis averted, just as everyone was about to breathe a sigh of relief, Atalanta’s cat ears twitched slightly and her face tensed.
“There are more coming from behind! A lot!”
Accompanying the warning, a massive wave of Wyverns burst out from the blood fog that roiled intensely in the thick mist.
Atalanta’s green eyes narrowed, and she silently recited a prayer, shooting two arrows into the sky.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
In an instant, a large magical array with the gold and silver celestial bodies at its core activated, the divine brilliance of the sun and moon swiftly condensed into thousands of light arrows that, within the range of the magical array, fell like a meteoric downpour.
The dense mist along the way hissed like cold water splashed on red-hot iron, many of which turned into green smoke and dispersed.
The hundreds of Wyverns that swooped in were penetrated by continuous volleys of starlight arrows, their scales were pierced, their wing membranes torn, and their limbs and skulls shattered amid successive screams as they crashed to their demise.
Although the Wyverns in the sky were nearly wiped out, everyone’s vigilance did not wane in the slightest.
For at this moment, the earth beneath their feet was shaking violently; trees in front were breaking and falling, heralding a rumble like a thousand thunders.
From the forward scouting team came screams and roars, the ascent of magic bullets, and the sharp explosions of fired javelins in mid-air.
Within the thick fog, a terrifying shadow over twenty meters tall and imposing as a small hill revealed a ferocious outline.@@novelbin@@
It had three heads — a lion, a goat, and a serpent, its hair hard as steel needles deflecting attacks from all directions.
The three-headed King of Monsters, Chimera?
Looking at the unique divine monster that was exactly like the one in his memory, yet whose aura was greatly different, Luo En’s gaze flickered.
Indeed, the cause of this Beast Disaster was inextricably linked to Typhon’s divinity.
The magic beasts and animals in the Arcadia Mountains were probably becoming ferocious and aggressive due to the corruption of the divinity of that progenitor of demons, and were gradually evolving into the likeness of Typhon’s offspring.
And if his guess was correct, the source of infection was within the Arcadia Mountains, and not far from here.
As Luo En pondered, the King of Monsters, Chimera, raised its head to let out a fierce roar, the vibrations on the ground becoming even more chaotic.
One, two, three…
Ten, a hundred, a thousand…
Moments later, packs of magical wolves, large and small magical pigs emerged from the mud, from behind bushes, from within dungeons, breaking through the mist to form a frenzied tide that surged against the punitive force.
Seeing the imposing counterattack, everyone’s gaze sharpened, tinged with caution and seriousness.
“Shield bearers and spear fighters to the front! Mages, interfere with the terrain to slow the onslaught!”
“Archers, fire two volleys! Spear throwers, disrupt their front formation!”
“Priests and healing mages, be ready for rescue!”
Commander Hippomenes, facing danger with composure, drew his sword and gave orders in an orderly fashion.
Subjugators rallied of their own accord, with cursed bullets, arrows, and spears whistling forward.
The swarming magic beasts were either pinned to the ground or blasted into pieces.
“Pfft!”
Luo En raised his hand to pull a bronze spear from the eye socket of a magical pig, his gaze shifting to the right, and then he pinched the spear under his arm and thrust forward, skewering a leaping magic wolf straight through.
In just a few breaths, dozens of magic beast corpses had accumulated around him.
Yet despite this, more and more magic beasts kept rushing out of the deep mountains continuously.
Facing wave after wave of magic beast assaults, the heroes stood like islets in the sea, repeatedly dividing the waves, standing firm.
Seeing that their prolonged attacks were unsuccessful, the Chimera in charge of the maneuvers finally lost its patience, lowered its head, and charged towards the Subjugators’ lines.
The vanguards of a few squads, having withstood several rounds of magic beast assaults, became overconfident and, unable to contain their excitement, converged from the side and rushed forward, attempting to intercept.
“Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!”
However, their proud divine power and sturdy shields proved as frail as paper against the Chimera.
Several overconfident Subjugators immediately screamed as they were blown backward, collapsing to the ground, coughing up blood with their breastbones caved in,
Two unfortunate souls happened to fall in the path of the magic beasts’ charge and were torn to pieces and trampled into meat paste before they could stand up.
Witnessing this scene, the recently triumphant Subjugators felt a chill in their hearts and became extremely cautious, not daring to confront the Chimera head-on anymore.
“Roar!”
The battle-hardened Chimera, now more ferocious, cast a sinister glance with its blood-red eyes at everyone and buried its head to bite into the half body of a severely wounded Divine Blood Hero.
Crack!
The crisp, piercing sound of breaking bones echoed as it chewed on flesh and bones, gulping it down whole, with thick red liquid dripping from the corners of its mouth.
Witnessing the bloody feeding scene, several of the younger Divine Blood Heroes turned pale, their hands trembling as they held their weapons.
Seeing that the monster, after feasting on blood, was charging at them, the archers immediately infused their divine power and fired arrows to block; several spear throwers also sprinted forward, launching their spears.
However, whether it was arrows, spears, or even the mages’ magic bullets, they all bounced off the Chimera’s tough hide, leaving little real damage and further provoking its ferocity.
“Clear the way!”
Accompanied by a deep roar, a towering figure burst from the ranks, charging straight at the Chimera.
Dozens of large and small magic beasts pounced, trying to tear the brazen biped to shreds.
Yet, amid dazzling azure glows, these beasts, troublesome in the eyes of others, instantly turned into splattered blood and mud.
Organs, broken bones, brain matter, and muscle were flung in all directions, turning into crimson raindrops that stained the surroundings with a macabre hue.
And beneath the cover of blood mist and dense fog, the king of three-headed monsters, Chimera, had already accelerated its charge to the front lines.
“Boom!”
In the midst of a dull explosion, twisted light patterns spread out, and dozens of nearby trees disintegrated into flying wood chips; layers of earth lifted up.
Two figures, one large and one small, were sent flying in opposite directions.
Half of the Chimera’s body exploded into bits of flesh, while the figure staggering up from the heap of corpses let out a hearty laugh, grabbed the wine flask from his waist, and took several gratifying swigs.
The wine trickling down from the corners of his mouth onto his bulging muscles reflected the sunset’s afterglow, casting a sense of power and intoxicating divinity.
Seeing that the saint had successfully slain the leader of the magic beasts, the followers of the Dionysian Sect couldn’t help but praise in unison.
“Holy, holy, holy! Lord Dionysus, who was, who is, and who is to come! Your glory fills the whole earth!”
At the back of the squad, a certain person involved seemed to hear calls of “XX the immortal, of infinite power”, causing him to blush and cough violently.
Flattery wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it should at least be kept appropriate to the situation.
