The Heiress's Return: From Zen to Zenith

Chapter 833: 414 Silence_3

Chapter 833: 414 Silence_3

If these people hadn’t kicked up a fuss, they could have clocked off on time and wouldn’t have had to be working overtime well into the evening.

“I think the fool here is you,” The veteran officer finally let out a grumble.

“The credibility of our justice system has been ruined by people like you. Remember well the five words ‘Serve the people’. Our existence means nothing without the people. The interests of the people always come first, no matter what.”

The veteran officer scolded with a stern face.

In a flash, the gaze of all the police officers converged on Ahmed Hayley. Some were mocking, others were looking down on him, some even indifferent.

Ahmed Hayley’s face turned beet red instantly. He wished he could find a hole in the ground to crawl into and hide from this deep sense of humiliation, his humiliation and rage mingling unbearably.

Resentment flickered rapidly in his eyes.

“Captain Ling.”

“Captain Ling.”

Everyone straightened up and looked behind Ahmed Hayley.

Ahmed Hayley’s face turned white as he stiffly turned around.

“Captain Ling…”.

Madon Linggo swept his cold gaze around the room. It finally landed on Ahmed Hayley’s face. He didn’t say anything, but his weighty and oppressive aura made it hard for everyone to breathe. Unbeknownst to him, the back of Ahmed Hayley’s shirt was soaked in sweat due to anxiety.

“Captain Ling.” Connie quickly walked over and whispered something into Madon Linggo’s ear.

Madon Linggo squinted, turned around, and walked out.

The back door of the police station led to a deserted alley. This door was rarely used. An old poplar tree was planted by the door. The mottled shadows of bare branches cast distorted, curved shapes on the ground in the light from afar, resembling osmanthus flowers in the moonlight.

A black sedan was parked under the old poplar tree at this moment, its smooth body exuded a low-profile yet luxurious aura in the pitch-black night.

Madon Linggo walked up to the car window.

The window was half-open, the woman’s face concealed in the shadows. “Captain Ling, good to see you.”

“Madam.” Madon Linggo flashed a smile. “Madam is as graceful and beautiful as ever.”

The woman raised her hand and brushed a loose strand of hair off her temples. In the dark, a huge diamond ring on her finger caught the glint of light. @@novelbin@@

“Captain Ling, I remember you used to follow Harvey Chambers back in Lostswa. It’s been over a decade now…”.

Madon Linggo’s eyes flickered slightly: “I am surprised that Madam still remembers.”

“Captain Ling is a rare talent. I wanted you to be on my team back then. It’s a pity…”.

“Thank you for your affection, Madam, but I’m not so fortunate.”

“You, everything is good about you except that you’re too modest.” The woman shook her head and smiled.

Having sensed that the other party was just making small talk, Madon Linggo finally felt something was amiss. “Madam, I’m sure you noticed the public’s anger and the media clamor when you came. Not to mention, the evidence regarding Aubree Groove’s attack is insufficient. To prevent a bigger mess, Agave Rinto can’t stay in the police station any longer. What do you think, Madam?”

The woman nodded, “Captain Ling’s right. The police need evidence for their work, and they shouldn’t detain someone without it. The public’s eyes are sharp, and sometimes we should listen to the voice of the masses.”

“If Madam doesn’t need anything else, I’ll leave first. There is too much work under my hand. I can’t be away for a moment.”

The woman graciously replied: “Go ahead.”

Madon Linggo turned around and hurried away, nearly running.

Inside the car, the corners of the woman’s mouth slowly curled into a smile. Her eyes emitted an air of disdain as she touched her temple.

“Let’s go.”

She would not lose this game.

Madon Linggo hurried into the police station and quickly scanned the room. “Where’s Ahmed Hayley?”

He asked as he quickly headed towards the detention room.

Connie quickly followed him and replied, “He went to bring Agave Rinto some water.”

“Damn.” Recalling the woman’s smile from earlier, a growing unease welled up in Madon Linggo.

Connie, sensing something was wrong, got to the room before Madon Linggo and opened the door.

Madon Linggo entered with a stern face. Upon seeing the scene in the room, he shook his head and scoffed.

Agave Rinto was sitting as if he owned the place, and under his foot was Ahmed Hayley, who had a contorted expression on his face.

The physically robust Ahmed Hayley, who had graduated from police academy, seemed like a small mouse being toyed with under Agave Rinto, devoid of any dignity.

Agave Rinto was lazily lounging half against the table, a book in his hand. The soft light falling on him accentuated his handsome features, making him appear more distinguished and composed.

Upon seeing Madon Linggo enter, Agave Rinto raised his eyebrows slightly: “Captain Ling, is this how your police treat prisoners?”

A dagger was thrown at Madon Linggo’s feet.

“Is it a case of torture? Or are you trying to murder me to close my mouth?”

Agave Rinto’s voice was mocking, he scoffed scornfully, then kicked Ahmed Hayley. Ahmed Hayley cried out in pain and rolled to Madon Linggo’s feet.
