Chapter 31 - 31 31 Is it You Or You
Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Is it You? Or You? Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Is it You? Or You? “You… Molian, you…you’re awake?”
The man gaped at Ya Molian, who had just awakened, swallowed involuntarily, and staggered half a step back.
Ya Nian’er and Ya Sui’er also stepped back, holding their heads low, saying nothing.
“Uncle Hai, I really didn’t see it coming, that you would harbor such thoughts.” Ya Molian’s face darkened as he observed the trio standing before him.
Ya Hai, who had always been cordial to him in the village and would greet him every time they met, surprised him. He had never suspected that Ya Hai, who seemed honest and kind-hearted, would actually conceive of such a scheme.
“This… well… Molian, Nian’er of my family is a maiden as beautiful as a flower, the jewel of Ya Village. There are plenty who want to propose to her. Uncle Hai thought that matchmaking Nian’er with you would be a good arrangement. What do you say?”
Since Ya Molian had already heard his plan, Ya Hai stopped beating around the bush and openly made his proposal.
In truth, in Ya Hai’s heart, arranging for his daughter to marry Ya Molian was blessing Ya Molian. After all, he had initially wanted to marry his daughter to a better family.
“Besides, you fainted in the fields just now. If Nian’er hadn’t seen it and had me carry you back, you’d have frozen to death. You surely can’t ignore this life-saving favor, can you?”
“In the fields? Really?”
Ya Molian lifted his eyes, his deep gaze focused on Ya Nian’er standing by Ya Hai’s side.
“You saved me in the fields?”
He asked.
“Yes, yes.”
A chill ran down Ya Nian’er’s spine under his piercing gaze, almost causing her to collapse.
Never had any man in the village scared her like this, not even the Clan Chief Ya. Yet now… she sincerely believed that Ya Molian was not a man to provoke!
Intuition told her that if she had indeed done something to Ya Molian at her dad’s behest today, it wouldn’t be him marrying her, but her facing the consequences alone!
“But, I didn’t faint in the fields. You put me there intentionally, didn’t you?”
Ya Molian got out of bed, standing tall. Already a head taller than Ya Hai and exuding an air of power, he was intimidating enough to make all three of them retract their necks, too scared to speak a word.
“What, not in the fields?”
Frozen with fear, Ya Nian’er’s mind was in a mess. Hearing his words, she was too fuzzy to think and hurried to explain.
What was there to explain? She was almost ready to flee.
“No, it’s not like that… I…I really found you in the fields, I…”
“Is it you, Uncle Hai, or is it you?”
Ya Molian withdrew his gaze from Ya Nian’er and brushed it past Ya Hai, then onto Ya Sui’er.
“Mo… Brother Molian, I’m sorry… We… We didn’t want to… We…” Ya Sui’er retreated a step, stuttering and at a loss for words.
She felt unjustly accused – they had genuinely found Ya Molian in the fields. Where had they gone wrong?
“Molian, regardless of where you passed out, we still saved you, right? Shouldn’t you thank us for that?” Despite being a few years older, Ya Hai didn’t want to back down, still trying to hold his ground.
“You did not really save me, nor did you successfully trap me in your scheme. Let’s call it even then. From now on, stay away from my house. Get lost!”
Ya Molian fixed a steel gaze on Ya Hai, pronouncing his verdict.
What do you think?
