The Hidden Dragon In-Law

Chapter 6 – Make a bet

Mary Xiao's stance left the entire Xiao Family dumbfounded!

Everyone thought she must have lost her mind!

There's a time and place to stand out, but doing so now could only lead to disaster. What else could come of it but death?

Dihao Group is the largest company in Jinling; how could they possibly take an interest in the Xiao Family? Whoever goes to negotiate, the outcome is bound to be a failure!@@novelbin@@

Robert Xiao couldn't help but mockingly say, "Mary, do you really think you can secure a contract from Dihao Group?"

Robert's own sister and Mary's cousin, Barbara Xiao, also sneered, "Sister Mary, know your place. What status do you have, and what status does Dihao Group have? Don't shame our Xiao Family by rashly negotiating!"

Someone chimed in, "Exactly, if she gets kicked out by Dihao Group, our Xiao Family will become the laughingstock of Jinling!"

Hearing this, Mary's cheeks flushed with anger and embarrassment.

Ever since marrying James Ye, her status in the family had plummeted, and she was increasingly marginalized, almost to the point of being ostracized, even her parents were ridiculed because of her.

She felt that if she could secure this project with Dihao Group, her status within the family would surely be solidified.

Most importantly, her parents could then hold their heads high.

But now, being ridiculed by so many, she couldn't help but have second thoughts.

She glared at James Ye, regretting having listened to his persuasion. If only she hadn't taken the lead...

Old Madame Xiao was furious upon hearing everyone's comments.

No one had dared to take on this task despite her asking several times, and now that Mary had stepped forward, these people were throwing cold water on it!

Although Old Madame Xiao had never liked Mary, at this moment, she felt that at least Mary was willing to share her worries, unlike the others who only added to her troubles!

Especially her most beloved grandson, Robert, who had truly disappointed her!

Because of this, Old Madame Xiao's attitude towards Mary had significantly changed.

She immediately declared, "If no one else dares to accept, then stop talking nonsense! Let Mary handle the project cooperation with Dihao Group!"

Mary had no choice but to stiffly respond, "Grandma, rest assured, I will give it my all."

At that moment, Robert snorted disdainfully, "What's the use of giving it your all? If you fail, you'll still disgrace our family!"

A quick look at "pawread dot com" will leave you more fulfilled.

James Ye sneered and asked, "Robert, what's your purpose in being so negative about Mary? Do you think the Xiao Family isn't worthy of cooperating with Dihao Group?"

Robert hadn't expected James, whom he considered a good-for-nothing, to speak up at the family meeting, let alone challenge him directly.

Seeing Old Madame Xiao's expression turn angry, he quickly explained, "That's not what I mean. I just think it's impossible for Mary to secure the cooperation!"

James Ye smiled and asked him, "What if Mary does secure the cooperation? Shall we make a bet?"

Robert scoffed, "Sure, let's bet. Do you think I'm afraid of you? What's the wager?"

James Ye proposed, "If Mary secures the contract, you kneel and kowtow three times in front of the whole family, loudly admitting your mistake. If she doesn't, I'll do the same. How about that?"

Robert burst into laughter, "You're really courting death! Fine, I'll take that bet!"

James Ye nodded in satisfaction, "Let the whole family witness. Whoever reneges on the bet is cursing their own parents and grandparents!"

James Ye emphasized the words "cursing their own grandparents" to prevent Robert from backing out later, as that would mean cursing Old Madame Xiao, who would certainly not let him off the hook.

"Alright!" Robert, unaware that James Ye was setting a trap, felt confident he couldn't lose.

He laughed and said, "Let the whole family witness, I look forward to you bowing to me!"

Mary was startled and tried to signal to him, but he completely ignored her.

Old Madame Xiao didn't take the bet seriously; her only concern was whether they could get on Dihao Group's partnership list. If they could, she wouldn't mind even if Robert had to call James Ye "Dad."

So, she announced, "That's enough for today's meeting. Mary, you have three days to secure the contract. Meeting adjourned!"

Back at home, her parents immediately confronted James Ye and Mary.

Her mother, Elizabeth Ma, was frantic, blurting out, "Mary, have you lost your mind? How could you heed the words of James, that good-for-nothing, and rashly accept this task?"

Her father, Christopher Xiao, also scolded James, "James, oh James, you good-for-nothing, you've really doomed my daughter!"

Then, with anger on his face, he said, "If Mary can't secure the cooperation with Dihao Group, she'll certainly be ostracized by the family, and you'll have to kowtow to Robert in front of everyone. Won't you then completely disgrace me?"

James Ye earnestly replied, "Dad, Mom, if Mary can secure the contract, won't all our problems be solved?"

"Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate! What nonsense!"

Her father cursed, "Do you know how powerful Dihao Group is? How could they possibly be interested in the Xiao Family?"

James Ye smiled, "Who knows? Maybe they will take an interest. I believe Mary can definitely secure the contract."

Her mother mocked from the side, "You believe? Do you think you're the boss of Dihao Group? A good-for-nothing with no use, and still so arrogant!"
