The Hunter's Lively Wife

Chapter 62: 62: Angry

Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Angry

Mrs. An finished speaking, and Mrs. Zhang immediately looked at Mrs. An with indignation, “Mother, aren’t you being too biased toward the third son’s wife? I think the third son’s wife recovered a while ago, yet you still purposely prevent her from working in the fields?”

“Eldest sister-in-law, Yunjin just woke up from a coma; Mother is just following the doctor’s orders to let Yunjin recuperate at home!” Gu Yan said.

Mrs. Zhang scoffed, “It was only a fall into water, she didn’t drown. Is it worth such a fuss? And needing to recuperate?”

“Eldest sister-in-law!” Gu Yan’s voice carried a slight edge of anger, and Mrs. Zhang, knowing she had gone too far with her words a moment ago, couldn’t help feeling a bit guilty.

At that time, Mrs. An was similarly displeased with Mrs. Zhang, “Eldest daughter-in-law, your sister-in-law has been unconscious for so long, and she just woke up not too long ago. What’s wrong with Mother allowing her to rest at home for a few days? Do you really want to be happy only after seeing your sister-in-law fainting in the fields again?”

“I—” Mrs. Zhang started to retort instinctively, but was silenced by Gu Yan’s icy gaze. The atmosphere at lunch remained tense and subdued, spoiled by the disruption from Mrs. Zhang and Mrs. Han.

...

Especially Gu Yan, who wore a gloomy expression throughout the meal, and Mrs. Zhang, having spoken too harshly earlier, did not continue to insist on Su Yunjin going to the fields to harvest rice.

After the meal, as before, the Gu family went back to work in the fields, while Su Yunjin stayed inside to prepare to take her medicine, which Gu Yan had brought to her.

Since the medicine had just been boiled and was still scalding hot, Su Yunjin cautiously took a sip, her face wrinkling at the bitterness.

She didn’t take another sip.

Su Yunjin put down the medicine bowl, planning to wait until it cooled enough to drink before finishing it in one go. Upon looking up, she noticed Gu Yan sitting opposite her, staring at her.

“What are you looking at me for?” Su Yunjin asked Gu Yan.

Gu Yan’s lips tightened slightly, “Yunjin, I’ve wronged you.”

“Ah?”

Gu Yan’s sudden remark initially baffled Su Yunjin, but she swiftly understood it was because of what Mrs. Zhang had said during the meal.

With nonchalance, Su Yunjin replied, “Don’t worry! I didn’t take what the eldest sister-in-law said to heart! You don’t have to worry! I don’t feel wronged at all!”

Mrs. Zhang was such a piece of work that Su Yunjin hadn’t taken her seriously at all, so how could she feel wronged by Mrs. Zhang’s words?

Su Yunjin might not have felt wronged, but Gu Yan pondered on protecting his young wife from now on, ensuring she wouldn’t suffer any grievances within the Gu family.

Meanwhile, the medicine on the table had cooled down. Su Yunjin tentatively tasted it again, and finding the temperature bearable, she gritted her teeth and gulped down the entire bowl of herbal potion.

So bitter!

Su Yunjin put down the bowl in her hand.

Gu Yan then handed her a piece of crispy sesame candy, which he had bought for her while strolling through the market today, “Yunjin, here, this will take away the bitterness.”

Su Yunjin looked at the piece of candy in Gu Yan’s palm. Her mouth was indeed bitter, so she accepted the candy without refusing and popped it into her mouth. The crispy sesame candy melted instantly, the sweetness quickly spreading in Su Yunjin’s mouth.

In an instant, the taste of bitterness was completely replaced by the candy’s sweetness.

“Yunjin, is it still bitter? Want another piece?” As he spoke, Gu Yan handed another piece of crispy sesame candy to Su Yunjin.
