Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Nothing Left at All
Su Yunjin agreed to send pig’s blood to Uncle Yu’s family. In the evening after she had cooked dinner, she carried the pig’s blood to the butcher Yu’s house. Last time, Su Yunjin had sent a bowl of pig’s blood to the butcher Yu’s family; this time, she brought over two bowls, both of which were filled in large bowls. Su Yunjin arrived at the butcher Yu’s house with the pig’s blood, just as the family was having their meal.
Su Yunjin smiled and handed the pig’s blood to the butcher Yu. Sister-in-law Song was warm-hearted and wanted to keep Su Yunjin for dinner, “Third brother’s wife, since you’re here, why don’t you have dinner at your sister-in-law’s place before going back?”
“No need, my family’s meals are all prepared too, we’re just waiting to eat when I get back.” Su Yunjin politely declined Mrs. Song’s invitation and gave all of the pig’s blood to the butcher Yu and his family.
The butcher Yu had tasted Su Yunjin’s cooked pig’s blood before. Seeing that Su Yunjin had brought some again, the butcher Yu was not fussy and immediately picked up a piece with his chopsticks and put it into his mouth.
The pig’s blood made by Su Yunjin was piping hot, tender, both numbing and spicy, exceptionally refreshing. After the butcher Yu ate a piece of pig’s blood, he laughed heartily and said to Su Yunjin, “Third brother’s wife, the pig’s blood you make is delicious, uncle enjoys it. How about this! I can’t sell the pig’s blood here, and we can’t make the flavor you do. From now on, I’ll give all the pig’s blood here to you, you just need to send a little over to uncle every time you eat it!”
“Alright, Uncle Yu, then let’s agree on that.” Su Yunjin was also quite willing to do as Uncle Yu proposed.
And so, it was settled that Su Yunjin would take the pig’s blood from the butcher Yu in the future and be responsible for cooking and bringing over one or two bowls to him.
When Su Yunjin returned from the butcher Yu’s house, she didn’t expect that her older sister-in-law, Mrs. Zhang, and the others had already started eating, and moreover, the dishes on the table were nearly all eaten by the time she got back; the pig’s blood she had cooked was completely gone. Only a few vegetable leaves remained untouched on the table.
“Third brother’s wife, you’re back? Sit down and eat! Look, the dishes on the table are almost all gone; mother should have asked Yaya to save you some dishes.” Mrs. An saw Su Yunjin who had returned from delivering the pig’s blood and hurried her to sit and eat. Su Yunjin scooped herself a bowl of coarse rice, just in time to see her sister-in-law, Mrs. Zhang, with some rice grains sticking to her chopsticks as she went to pick up food. As Mrs. Zhang took a bite of vegetables, the rice grains that were stuck to her chopsticks also fell into the vegetable bowl.
Su Yunjin felt nauseated, and with the vegetable bowl almost empty except for a little at the bottom, she didn’t try to take more food but rather just ate a few bites of rice as is, making do for the meal.
Eating little for dinner, it was quite obvious that Su Yunjin didn’t have her fill.
Back in her room, Su Yunjin felt hungry and regretted not buying a couple of pancakes at the market that day. If she had bought them then, she could have had something to eat to fill her stomach.
Gu Ya came in, “Yunjin, you didn’t eat much for dinner, did you have enough?”
Isn’t that obvious!
Su Yunjin gave Gu Ya a glare.
“What do you think?”
Gu Ya didn’t speak; he first sat down across from Su Yunjin and then suddenly pulled out a package wrapped in greaseproof paper from his bosom and handed it to Su Yunjin.
“Yunjin, here!”
Su Yunjin looked curiously at the package in Gu Ya’s hands and asked, “What’s this?”
What do you think?
