The Huntsman Of Death:A Gamer's POV As Side Character

Chapter 102: 104:Secret Ritual[II]

Ashton's breath hitched as he raised his guard, against the sudden appearance of the stranger that made his voice tremble.

"Who... Who are you?"

"Me?"

The man in the white mask tilted his head slightly, then laughed. The sound was low and unsettling. Before Ashton could blink, the figure disappeared, leaving an eerie silence in his wake.

Ashton's instincts screamed danger. His senses sharpened, and his hand darted to his waist to grab the hidden blade he always carried to tackle any unfortunate incident.

But shockingly, his fingers met nothing but air.

"It's not there…" he thought in shock with dread pooling in his stomach.

A voice whispered from behind him, low and casual, sending a shiver down his spine. "Mr. White. You can call me Mr. White."

Goosebumps crawled along Ashton's skin as he whipped around, jumping away to face the man now standing behind him with the white blank face having a cheeky smile on it.

"You…" Ashton stammered. "What are you?"

Mr. White tilted his head, almost like a curious bird, and chuckled. "What do you mean by that?"

"Shouldn't you ask who I am?"

"Or are you too shocked to speak correctly?"

Despite the mask, Ashton felt certain the man was grinning beneath it, amused by his nervousness.

"I mean…" Ashton hesitated, his throat dry. "Are you a human? A spirit? Or…" He clamped his mouth shut before finishing the last word which was to ask if he was specter or wraith.

The mere thought of it made his chest tighten.

'If he's a wraith,' Ashton thought, swallowing hard, 'I'm as good as dead since I don't have any preventive measures.'

Mr. White threw his head back and laughed, his voice echoing around them. "Hahaha! Kid, relax. You've got a talent for overthinking, don't you?"

Ashton's eyes narrowed, but he didn't lower his guard.

"I'm White," the masked man said, spreading his arms dramatically. "The overseer of this place. A place created to guide the brightest stars of this era to greatness they deserved."

As he spoke, the endless white blocks around them faded away, replaced by a breathtaking starry sky. The stars blinked and shimmered as if alive.

Ashton's jaw dropped, his heart pounding at the sheer beauty of the transformation.

"Is this real?" he thought, barely able to breathe. "This kind of power… even the strongest people I've heard of couldn't do something like this."

"Wonderful, isn't it?" Mr. White's voice broke through Ashton's thoughts.

Ashton turned to find him standing beside him, hands clasped behind his back, a staff leaning against his shoulder. He gazed up at the sky, admiration clear in his posture.

"These stars," Mr. White said, his tone soft, "represent the brilliant souls of this era. People who shine in the darkness, pushing it away, bringing light to a world on the brink of being swallowed by shadows."

"Just like you, there are many stars but.."He paused, which made Ashton look up at him.

"But not every star get the blessings to shine."

Ashton's breath hitched. There was something deeper in those words, a meaning he couldn't quite grasp, but it made him uneasy.

"This place," Mr. White continued, "is the Repository of Knowledge. Only those destined for greatness, those who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future, can enter here."

He turned to Ashton, his mask hiding his expression but his voice carrying a playful edge. "Like you. And others like you. Together, you'll wield power and knowledge to face the chaos ahead. My Lord's sole purpose is to help you."

Ashton's mind raced as he tried to process everything. "Who is your Lord?" he asked cautiously.

Mr. White clapped his hands, the sound sharp and sudden. "Ah! A good question! But…" He wagged a finger. "Sorry, I can't tell you that yet. If you join, you'll meet him when the time is right."

He paused, leaning closer with a playful tilt of his head. "Don't worry. I'm not here to manipulate you or force you to join. But let me show you what you'd be missing if you refused."

With a snap of his fingers, the scene shifted again. The stars vanished, replaced by an enormous library that seemed to stretch endlessly in every direction. Rows of ancient books, scrolls, and artifacts filled the space, each one glowing faintly as if charged with power.

"In here," Mr. White said, gesturing grandly, "you'll find everything. Every hidden piece of knowledge, every skill, every technique ever discovered. And when you learn something new, you can deposit it here for others to use. That's how this place grows—through shared brilliance."

Ashton's mouth went dry. "Is this real?" he thought, his eyes darting from shelf to shelf. "This place… it's beyond anything I've ever imagined."

Mr. White leaned on his staff, watching Ashton with amusement. "Fascinating, isn't it? But there's more to this place than I can show you right now." He shook his head, almost wistfully. "I can't access everything myself, you see. Some parts are locked, even from me, because I'm not strong enough yet."

Ashton's mind buzzed with questions, doubts, and possibilities. He felt like he was standing on the edge of a cliff, staring into a vast unknown.

Mr. White broke the silence, his tone light but serious. "So, what do you say, kid? Want to join us?"

Ashton hesitated, his heart pounding. He weighed the risks against the potential rewards. The idea of gaining knowledge and power was tempting, but he couldn't ignore the nagging suspicion in the back of his mind.

Finally, he looked at Mr. White and spoke firmly. "I'll join. But you have to swear in the name of Goddess Martina that you're not part of an evil organization."

Mr. White's laughter filled the library. He tapped his chest with his staff and said with a playful flourish, "I, Mr. White, overseer of the world hidden in black and white, swear that neither I nor my Lord are affiliated with any evil organization, wraiths, or the abyss."

Ashton stared at him, unsure if he should feel reassured or even more wary.
