Chapter 29 31:Abysmal Descent[II]
TANG! TANG! TANG!
A bell of distress signal rang, sparking hope.
It was a sign of the City Lord taking the fort and commanding the city guards into motion.
Following it, a piercing voice rang out from above. "Warriors of Night Creak! Stand together!"
Soon, a figure flew into the air.
It was the City Lord, a towering figure with obsidian-black wings and piercing silver eyes, his voice booming over the chaos. He stood atop the highest fortress, his figure wreathed in dark, cursed flames, and his battle armor shimmered with enchanted runes. "Defend our city! Do not let this abomination run rampant!" he commanded, rallying his troops.
"Your sacrifices will be etched in the history of Night Creak and in the world of demons."
Without hesitation, the demon soldiers rushed to action, guiding the townsfolk to safety and forming ranks to defend the city.
A monster tide from the abyss, consisting of void lurkers, void growlers, and abyssal maws.
They had huge serpentine bodies, jagged teeth, and tentacles erupting like whiskers from the back of their maws, looking like miniature versions of the colossal monster.
Demons started to run around in a frenzy, but pieces of debris crashed into them, flattening them. The colossal monster sprawled forward, dragging its huge body through the houses, dismantling them.
"AHHHHH!"
"RUN!"
"RUUNNN!"
"Save me..."
Screams erupted as demons shoved one another to run away.
The City Lord turned to his commanders. "Organize the evacuation. Get everyone to the lower caverns!"
With swift precision, they sprang into action, and the City Lord himself stepped forward, unsheathing a massive, dark blade that shimmered with cursed power. His obsidian wings unfurled as he launched himself into the air, his presence formidable and commanding as he charged toward the beast.
Hovering above his troops, he raised his sword high. Dark energy crackled along its edge, radiating a powerful, cursed aura. "Face me, beast!" he roared, swinging the blade down and unleashing a surge of cursed fire.
The black flames arced through the sky, striking the creature's twisted hide and searing it with a sizzling hiss.
The beast let out a horrific howl, its huge body mass shifting as it recoiled from the blow.
Instantly, many blood-red eyes focused on the City Lord, and a massive, sinewy arm lashed out, veined with pulsating darkness. The City Lord dodged deftly, moving with a speed that belied his size, and retaliated with a swift, powerful strike, his blade carving through the creature's arm. Black blood sprayed from the wound, sizzling where it hit the ground, leaving deep, burning craters.
Retreating, the City Lord issued a warning. "Be careful of the blood. It has a corrosive nature."
As the monster attacked, the City Lord channeled his most potent abilities. His wings flared wide, casting a shadow over the battlefield, and he invoked the Night Warden's Guard—a shield of dark energy that deflected the beast's shadowy tendrils as they whipped toward him like spears. Then, with each strike of his blade, he unleashed a slash.
"Void Edge!"
A powerful technique that sent waves of cursed energy slicing through the creature's writhing limbs.
The creature howled, writhing as two new limbs sprouted to replace the one he severed. It lunged forward, sending a torrent of shadow tendrils hurtling toward him. But the City Lord retaliated with a roar, summoning his Obsidian Tempest ability.
A swirling vortex of dark flames and shadow blades ripped through the oncoming tendrils, incinerating them in midair.
The impact sent shockwaves through the city, shattering windows and shaking the cobblestones beneath the feet of the soldiers below. Buildings buckled, debris raining down as the sky pulsed with bursts of dark energy and fire.
Below, his troops fought fiercely, casting bolts of dark magic to drive back stray tendrils while guiding civilians to shelter.
The City Lord continued his relentless assault, evading the creature's attacks with lightning-fast reflexes and delivering brutal counterstrikes. With a mighty swing of his blade, he unleashed his ultimate attack, the Eclipse Rend.
The sky above darkened as the cursed power surged from his blade, a vast crescent of energy that sliced into the creature, cutting deep into its core.
The beast bellowed in agony, thrashing as the cursed flames seared it from within. But still, it fought on, more tendrils erupting from its body as it sought to ensnare him in a cage of shadow.
The City Lord narrowed his eyes, unfazed, and summoned his final power—the "Dread Ascent." His wings blazed with cursed flames as he soared high into the air, his figure radiating a fierce, indomitable resolve. He gathered his remaining strength, channeling every last ounce of his power into his blade.
"It's you and me. Until I am dead, don't even dare to touch my people, you beast."
...
While the entire town was engulfed by the frantic roar of chaos, deep inside the basement of the pub, we jolted in shock.
"What is going on?"
"We are going to die!"
"Is this the end of the world?"
"SAVE ME!"
"Ahhhh! Mamaaa!"
"Everyone, hold on, don't scream!" Gremlin shouted, trying to compose everyone alongside Saber, who suddenly paused to look at the boy of similar age who gazed through the gap in the ceiling with a trace of solemnity.
The situation was quite grave, so grave that chances... Knowing what was in store, I had already hardened my heart, but...
Looking back at the group of young ones, I wondered if I was too rash.
Can I even get out of this place alive without knowing the exact scenarios in detail? Everything that's happening now was a backdrop of cut scenes from Saber's past.
After staying here in this grim place, I didn't find it as hateful as I thought. It wasn't a gloomy place filled with outcasts, but rather a group of hopeful dreamers living every day while looking out for a better future.
Somehow, I developed a soft spot for them, and it was the same for Saber.
This rampage might have allowed Saber to break free in the original game, but looking at the situation, it seemed none of them survived except Saber.
So the question can I...no we survive.
However, no need to think so much.
"Lukas, you look so calm?"
Hearing Saber's voice, I spoke with a smile.
"It's here."
"What?"Gremlin and Saber asked.
"The opportunity to get out of here."
We will survive.
Because unlike the game I am here.
What do you think?
