Chapter 736 Chapter 726. Valuable
736 Chapter 726. Valuable The Incubus System Chapter 726. Valuable Celia's gaze remained fixed on me, her stare flat and unyielding. She didn't even need to say anything—her concern was practically radiating off her like heat from a furnace. Meanwhile, I just kept eating my sandwich like nothing was wrong, chewing slowly, pretending I didn't notice her stare boring into me.
Honestly, this was starting to feel like a defense mechanism. If I acted unfazed, maybe she'd let it go. Maybe.
The silence stretched. It was almost impressive how long she could sit there, just watching me, like she was waiting for me to crack. But before she could speak, Foxy finally lost it.
"Uh, Master," she whined, shifting uncomfortably. "Celia is really, really worried about you." Her ears drooped slightly, and she looked at me with those big, concerned eyes. @@novelbin@@
I sighed, setting down what was left of my sandwich. "I know," I said, keeping my tone even. "And I'm sure she knows that I don't appreciate it when she worries so much." I glanced at Celia, raising an eyebrow. "Must I remind everyone that I'm fully aware of my own limits? I know when I need to step back."
The air felt heavier for a second. I didn't mind people caring, but I did mind being treated like I was some reckless idiot who didn't think things through. Sure, I pushed myself sometimes, but I wasn't stupid.
Celia's expression softened—only slightly—but the frustration in her eyes was still there. She crossed her arms, clearly not convinced. "I remember," she said, voice calm but firm. "But you also know how much I despise that side of you. The side that brushes off my concern like it's nothing. The side that acts like you're invincible."
I sighed again, louder this time, and stood up, taking my plate to the sink.
Grabbing a glass, I filled it with water, condensation trickling down the sides as I took a slow sip.
"Well," I said finally, placing the glass on the counter. "I suppose that makes us even."
Celia frowned. "Even?"
I turned back to her, tilting my head slightly. "Yeah. You hate it when I act like I can handle everything on my own. And I hate it when people act like I can't. So I guess it's a draw." I smirked. "We're both equally annoyed."
Her frustration deepened, her hands tightening into fists. "What kind of response is that?" she snapped.
I shrugged. "A flat one."
Her glare intensified.
With a dramatic sip, I finished my drink, letting the cool liquid wash down the last of my meal. I placed the empty glass on the counter, leaning against it lazily as I watched her stew in her own irritation.
"Celia, you worry too much," I finally said, throwing in a half-smirk just to mess with her. "I get that you mean well, but sometimes, taking life less seriously is the best move. Trust me, I've got things under control."
She did not look convinced.
Her arms tightened around herself, her lips pressing into a thin line. I could see the battle going on in her head—the urge to keep arguing vs. the desire to just smack me over the head and call it a day.
Finally, I sighed and straightened up, my expression turning more serious.
"Look," I said, my tone softer but steady. "I know you worry about me. And I do appreciate it. But I also know the consequences of my own actions. If I mess up, it's not just me who suffers—it's the people around me too. I get that."
Celia's lips parted slightly, like she wanted to argue, but no words came out.
I continued, my voice even more sincere. "That's why I need you to be safe too. If something happens to you while you're busy worrying about me, that's my failure. And that's not something I can afford."
Her eyes flickered with something—conflict, understanding, maybe a little bit of guilt. She shifted her gaze downward, avoiding my eyes.
I knew what she was thinking. She wanted to do more, to help me, to make sure I wasn't pushing myself too hard. But she also knew there were limits to what she could do.
I sighed again, this time quieter, and stepped closer.
"You've already done so much for me," I said, my voice gentler. "And your safety? That's more important to me than anything else."
Her eyes lifted slightly, meeting mine again.
"I know you don't like sitting on the sidelines," I continued. "But just being here, believing in me—that's more than enough."
Celia's brows furrowed slightly, her emotions still swirling, but the frustration was fading, replaced by something softer.
I let out a small chuckle, trying to lighten the mood. "So… do me a favor and take care of yourself, alright?"
Her lips twitched. Not quite a smile, but close.
Then, before she could respond, I used my teleportation skill, vanishing from the kitchen and appearing right next to her.
Her breath hitched slightly as I reached out and patted her head.
"Just take care of yourself," I murmured, my voice quieter now. "That's more than enough for me."
For a moment, she didn't move. Then, slowly, she leaned into the touch, her shoulders relaxing just a little.
I didn't wait for her to respond.
With one last ruffle of her hair, I teleported again, disappearing from the kitchen and reappearing in my room.
