Chapter 1464 Mastermind Lex

Chapter 1464  Mastermind Lex

The difficulty and complexity of Karma was without question, or else even Dao Lords would not be struggling with it. As such, even though Lex received a technique to look at Karma, it was a highly specified type of Karma.

Even in that technique, Lex was far from a master, but it was enough to get started. If his comprehension was not exceptionally high, it might have taken him years to learn the technique even to this scale. After all, immortals have no lack of time, so the complexity of the techniques they used was far beyond anything from previous realms.

The entire life expectancy of a Nascent realm cultivator might be less than the time an immortal uses to learn a single technique.

In short, even though he had mediocre success in mastering the Karma technique related to Karma, and could merely see a faint amount of contract related Karma, when he used the technique on himself, he was nearly blinded!

Why the hell did he have 17 million contractual Karmic links to female angels?

Lex immediately stopped using the technique, for the burden of viewing Karma was too much. Originally it shouldn't have been too troublesome, but because of the immensity of the contractual links he had, the combined burden was too much!

"No, this can't be right," Lex muttered with great concern, and used it on himself once more.

This time, the Karmic links he saw were even greater, and were linked to oracles!

Lex exerted himself, forcing the technique to help him identify what these links were about.

A few seconds later, he stopped using the technique and wiped the sweat off his brow.

Once upon a time, he had promised Vera to help Oracles pull out the thunder tribulation shards from their souls. Although the promise had been based on his own availability and freedom, it was enough to form a preliminary contract between him and millions of oracles.

For now, such Karma had no consequence, and he did not even need to fulfill the promise to get rid of it. @@novelbin@@

The thing to remember, in this case, was that a casual promise made by him was enough to link him to countless beings he didn't even know existed.

After spending some time recovering, he looked at his Karma again, trying to find out why he was linked to angels, yet once again he saw something else.

He had a strong Karmic connection, much stronger than the ones to the angels and oracles, and this one was towards a single target. What was concerning was that this Karmic link, unlike the previous ones which were made of yellow or silver light, was made entirely of a deep purple, slowly turning ever darker. It also carried an aura of decay, and was slowly but surely negatively affecting him.

It was his link to the assassin organization Hix, whom he had hired to find a certain dwarf who released a video of Lex climbing his dragon cultivation mat for the first time.

Lex closed his eyes again. His mastery was not enough to understand why the Karmic link carried an aura of decay, or why it was affecting him. The technique he learned was focused solely on contracts, with its actual purpose being to strengthen marital bonds. As such, every other aspect of Karma it touched upon was merely perfunctory.

"What the hell have I been getting into?" Lex asked himself, then took another look at his Karma, though this time his eyes immediately started to bleed, forcing him to shut them.

He saw the Karma of his promise to Sekhmet. He did not need the technique to assist him in determining what it was, for he could feel remnant traces of her aura clearly.

At that point, Lex knew that he needed to stop. It was not easy for his body to be wounded, but the fact was that he had Karma with no one but multiple Dao Lords. If he ended up seeing his Karma related to them, he didn't know what the repercussions would be. However, he really wanted to figure out what his Karma with the angels was. Lex took a deep breath and focused on healing his eyes, meanwhile mentally preparing himself to look at his Karma once more. Theoretically, he should be able to hone in on the Karma he wanted to see. But since his mastery of the technique was poor, he couldn't do it as easily.

He spent a few hours preparing himself, before he opened his eyes once more. They were filled with red veins, strained to their utmost and not entirely healed, but that didn't matter. What mattered was that Lex finally saw his Karma with the angels once more.

There were 17 million individual threads of silver Karma, each from a female angel. They were all weak, barely existing, yet the faint aura of a contract allowed them to exist.

Lex focused on the threads, searching for their origin. Eventually, he saw it. The difficulty of the technique had actually been lowered since he was viewing his own Karma, which is why he was able to trace it.

He once promised, on Lovers Island, that he would heal the wings of any angel that came to the Midnight Inn. That was the promise upon which this contract was built. However, what confused Lex was that each of those threads also carried with it a trace of…

Lex pursed his lips. Each of those Karma threads looked similar to what his teacher had taught him in Karma class. It was the Karma of someone who wanted to pursue a potential partner, and some degree of eligibility had been established.

How the hell had he established the eligibility for a relationship with 17 million angels? That was something he absolutely did not understand!

Lex stopped using the technique as fatigue began to set in. Using Karmic techniques put an immense pressure on him, mostly because the Karma he was viewing was immense.

Lex did not understand how he was capable of sowing such immense Karma so easily, but he sensed that carrying such a vast amount of unresolved Karma was dangerous. He needed to remedy the situation, and fortunately he did not need to heal all angels' wings, and treat the souls of all oracles to do it.

Such light Karma could easily be withdrawn. Though there would be repercussions, considering how light the Karma was, it should be manageable for him. In fact the higher his cultivation level was, the greater his threshold for tolerating Karma.

But considering he already had too much Karma, it was best not to make any rash decisions. He should handle things one at a time, starting from the lightest Karma. No wait. Considering the immense Karma he already carried, the positive outcome far outweighed the negative.

He had time to spare, so he should focus on studying Karma first. There was nothing wrong with this. The Innkeeper had a reputation for his mastery of Karma, so it only made sense for Lex to have an interest in it.

With that, Lex concluded his little experiment and quickly departed from his temporary cultivation cave. He was already late for his meetup with Gerard and Velma, so he hopped on top of Naraka, and flew through the vacuum of space, back towards the Azure Asteroid field.

He could have just teleported over, but long distance teleportations had been forbidden for guests. The Artica race probably wanted to prevent anyone from ending up somewhere outside of the designated zone.

Lex arrived at his destination much quicker than if he got in a taxi, but found his two companions already waiting for him. He was just about to apologise for being late, but when they turned to look at him their eyes were filled with pity, which confused him.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Lex asked. Instead of responding, Velma just pointed her finger towards a shop nearby, where a blushing Misha seemed to be sitting, lost in her daydreams.

"Did you need to be so blatant in entering a Karma class for couples right after asking her out? For the last few days the poor girl has been going through a series of mini-panic attacks, uncertain of how to respond," said Gerard. "You, my friend, have made the classic mistake of moving too quickly in your relationship. In your case, you moved too quickly before even entering a relationship."

"No, wait, that's not happened!" Lex suddenly exclaimed. "I was just- I mean, I wanted to learn about Karma and that was the closest class available. I didn't think much about it!"

Lex looked sincere in his claims, but Velma just rolled her eyes.

"You need to work on your acting, Lex. You could have sold the fact that you were learning Karma if you didn't win a distinction in your 50 hour class, earning recognition for stellar performance, and having your picture published in the local newspaper. You clearly wanted her to know you were taking your class. Sometimes, your plan, no matter how well thought out, will fail if others can detect that you planned it out."

Lex was stumped. What plan? What distinction? What was she talking about?
