The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1446 Sweet Dream

Migrating to the Spirit Realm, he already knew that he wasn't going to start from scratch.@@novelbin@@

He could transfer some of his powers to kickstart his new body.

But as it turns out, it was more than that.

Other skills that the has developed over the years, the energy control, the pain tolerance, the patience, the determination—it created a vortex of power inside of him. One that would give him the edge in this new body and start his ascending spiral.

By the time Rex finished all three of the Soul Brilliances, Linthia was still finishing hers.

She was experienced—lived for hundreds of years so she certainly has better energy control than young spirits. Comparing her to spirits of her age who were also breaking through to the Ascendant Spirit rank, she wouldn't be drowned in terms of skills or perhaps even has the upper edge.

Even then, she was still way slower than Rex.

Just to show how the intangible skills Rex developed translated perfectly into this realm.

As long as the purpose was to become stronger, he would always dominate.

Once the three Soul Brilliances were formed, Rex opened his eyes and looked up at them.

He took in the beautiful sight, amazed that there was another path to power other than the path he was accustomed to in the Mortal Realm. However, that lasted briefly as the three orbs shot and seeped into the ground—phasing through all physical objects.

Rex was calm at the sight.

All of them were supposed to be pulled toward the Great Life Flame within the curst of the world.

Based on Amanir's explanation, the Soul Brilliance will be repaid in the form of a string of worldly life energy, the purest form of life energy by the Great Life Flame to evolve the Soul Artifacts—and ignite the power they contained.

One doesn't need to be worried too much.

As long as the Soul Brilliance was successfully created, they would ascend to the Ascendant Spirit rank.

However, it has been minutes but the worldly life hasn't come.

Rex wanted to ask Amanir to explain this but he decided to wait a little bit more.

All of them are high-grade Soul Artifacts, repaying it would certainly take time. I'll wait.

In the next couple of minutes, Rex noticed that the mark on Linthia's waist began to glow brighter and her aura surged to another level. Just the display alone showed—that she had received the worldly life energy and was pushing through the door of the Ascendant Spirit rank.

Rex, on the other hand, still hasn't received anything back.

He didn't even feel anything coming towards him.

Breaking the silence, he decided to turn toward Amanir, "Hey, I still haven't been repaid yet"

"Hmmm?!" Amanir's expression instantly turned into that of pure shock. "What did you say?"

"I said I haven't gotten my worldly life energy yet," Rex repeated.

But his answer made Amanir more troubled than before, "How long? How long has it been?"

"Around ten minutes I think…" Rex answered lightly.

Upon hearing this, Amanir instantly rushed towards him but he was a little bit too late.

Swoosh!

As Amanir was about to reach Rex, he bumped into a barrier that enveloped Rex and also the bed he was on right now. Seeing this, Rex's eyebrows dipped into a frown as he noticed something powerful was heading at him.

His Werewolf senses kicked in, the incoming threat made him sweat profusely.

Just then, rows of notifications flooded his vision.

<Be advised, please prepare for the Ember of Calamity>

<Calculating…>

<Three Embers of Calamity has been detected!>

<Stay awake to survive the ordeal to evolve the user's Soul Artifacts and ascend to the Ascendant Spirit rank!>

"Huh? What's the Ember of Calamity?" Rex pondered aloud.

But he had no time to think as the first Ember of Calamity struck him from below.

Stab!

A crimson moon bloomed beneath him, its eerie glow spilling across the bedsheets.

Rex barely had the time to register its presence before jagged obelisks of blood-red stone erupted from its surface, piercing through his body with terrifying precision. One speared his wrists, another viciously sank into his elbow and his legs—he was impaled in multiple places across his form.

Even the nape of his neck was not spared.

However, inexplicably, there was no pain—no sensation at all.

For a fleeting moment, he felt nothing.

What is this? Is it also metaphysical like the Soul Brilliance? I don't feel anything.

As he thought of that, the agony struck.

"Gargghk!" Rex grunted as blood burst out of his mouth suddenly.

Like living things, the tips of the obelisks—writhed, burrowing into his flesh and branching out into needle-thin roots that twisted through his veins. A searing heat followed, igniting his nerves like flames that refused to go out.

It wasn't a mere stabbing pain—it was deeper, more insidious.

Relentlessly, the burning filaments invaded his bloodstream, setting his entire body alight with agony that transcended flesh—and muscle. Rex's howl of pain tore through the room, one that caught Linthia off guard as she had never heard Rex scream like this.

"What's going on with him?!" Linthia shouted, worried sick.

Upon hearing this, Amanir shook his head, "He's undergoing the Ember of Calamity. Only those who are ascending to the Immortal Spirit rank or above would be faced with this but it seemed all three of his Soul Artifacts are very powerful to incite this prematurely"

"Can we do something to help him?" She asked again, desperate to help.

Even back when Rex fought the Fifthborn, he never shouted like this.

"No," Amanir replied gravely. "We can only hope he could survive this or perish completely"

His body convulsed under the unrelenting torment.

It clawed its way into his bones, sinking into his spine like venomous fangs grinding against marrow, stretching deeper and deeper—until he thought he would shatter apart. But it was only the beginning, a lot more awaited him.

The second Ember of Calamity struck.

From the bed beneath him, a thick, golden substance oozed upward—its texture like molten honey.

It slithered over his limbs, climbing his torso in slow, insidious waves.

He could only watch helplessly as the sticky goo crept toward his skull and then seeped inside, not wasting a single second to invade his brain—like a sentient poison. His thoughts dulled to a sluggish crawl as his mind drowned in a dense fog.

A hypnotic weight pressed upon him, forcing calm where he should be alert and stiff.

Panic roiled inside him but he could barely grasp the thought.

I'm supposed to keep my consciousness? Is that even possible?!

Rex grumbled inside as his own will slipped through his fingers like grains of sand.

He wanted to stay awake but with the golden goo blocking his thoughts and emotions, he couldn't use his anger to help him in this moment. All he could rely on was his raw will alone which was slowly being overpowered by the golden embrace.

And yet, the torment was not over.

The third Ember of Calamity emerged.

A coil of living shadow slithered from the floor, swirling around him like a starving predator.

It twined tighter and tighter, then condensed into a sphere, trapping him in a prison of midnight darkness.

Inside, the pain was amplified—a monstrous crescendo that tested Rex's pain tolerance. The obelisks still burned, the golden goo still crushed his mind, but now the shadowy tendrils coiled around his throat and constricted his airway.

Each torment fed into the next, their horrors entwining in perfect, nightmarish synchrony.

But then as he was about to pass out, a different glint crossed his eyes.

His pupils, normally spherical turned slit despite not being in his Werewolf form.

"RAARGGH!!" Rex screamed, this one was more emotional and powerful as his body reacted, slowly beginning his transformation process. In mere seconds, he turned into his Werewolf form and sustained the Ember of Calamity better.

Finally, at the peak of the agony—friction of energy began to spark.

Boom!

Swoosh!

A ferocious shockwave of wind exploded.

It didn't cause any destruction at all.

Instead, it phased through everything physical, causing no harm to any of them.

From the outside, one could see an expanding ring of colorful shockwaves exploding from the inn.

Even though the shockwave caused no destruction, it was felt by everyone in Arbitgea.

Once that shockwave happened, Rex was freed from the Ember of Calamity—and fell back to the soft bed with sweat and blood drenching his entire body. He was completely drained—he could barely move his hand or even blink.

Almost instantly, Linthia rushed to his head—holding his head and check on him.

"Rex, talk to me. Are you okay?" She asked softly.

Upon hearing this, Rex wanted to say that he was fine but only tired but he soon realized that he had lost his voice. His windpipe was still crushed, holes still riddled his body, and his mind was still foggy, still recovering from the extreme agony.

"He should be fine," Amanir mumbled and pointed at his wounds. "Look, they're regenerating"

As a Werewolf, he could recover from this with time.

Though he could feel that his regeneration was slower, he would eventually recover.

Once he was able to move properly, he would bathe under the moonlight—and search in the System's Shop for other items that could help enhance his regeneration. But in the meantime, he wanted to rest, the Ember of Calamity left him crippled.

However, a smile bloomed on his face when he saw the notifications from the System.

<Congratulations, the user has reached the Ascendant Spirit rank!>

<Growing Stronger in the Spirit Realm title has been completed!>

<3 Yellow Nightfall Stars has been awarded!>

<Please check the user's Soul Artifacts stat panels to see the special abilities of each Soul Artifact>

Rex could read the notifications but he doesn't have any mental strength to act upon it.

He only needs to be satisfied with only this.

Just then, however, as he wanted to sleep for a moment and rest his throbbing mind and body, his eyes flared open when a crashing sound could be heard. Both Linthia and Amanir saw the door flying across the room and crashed to the wall.

Seeing this, Amanir instantly phased through the walls and disappeared.

It was his Soul Artifact's ability, ghost form, allowing him to do something like this.

On the other hand, Linthia immediately summoned her Soul Artifact, a pair of dark fairy wings—and protected Rex behind her. Soon, two figures appeared, a bearded man and a masked woman who came into the room with clear malice.

"Sorry to barge inside but he's coming with me…" the bearded man said with an irrefutable tone.

Upon hearing this, Linthia's life energy flared, "Over my dead body,"

"Well, alright then…" the bearded man smirked.

Boom!

Immediately, he dashed toward Linthia and body-slammed her through the wall.

As he did that, he fixed his hair before glancing over to the masked woman.

"I'll handle her, Young Mistress" He said firmly.

However, as he said that, Rex suddenly shot up from the bed and grabbed his throat.

Just as he was about to deliver a punch, the masked woman acted swiftly.

She climbed Rex's back, locked her legs to fix her position, and crushed a white mushroom right in front of his face. Almost instantly, Rex was paralyzed, allowing the bearded man to slip from his grasp right as Linthia shot back inside to grab Rex.

Reacting swiftly, the bearded man caught Linthia's arm and pushed her back outside.

A battle between them ensues as Linthia desperately tries to go through the bearded man.

On the other hand, the masked woman stabbed Rex's neck with a needle.

Almost instantly, Rex could feel his consciousness slipping and the world going dark—no matter how much he tried to stay awake. He was caught in a moment of weakness. It was partly because he didn't expect the process to be this hazardous.

The last thing he could hear was the masked woman's soft whisper.

"Don't fight the poison, it would only cause you more pain. Sweet dream…"
