Chapter 1450 Perfectionist
Is it the poison from earlier? No, that's not it.
Rex doesn't understand where this was coming from.
But the notification from the System—it shed him a clue as to what was going on.
As expected, it wasn't a poison or anything.
It was because of Father Dominator, an unknown entity that had shown interest in him.
What did I do to catch its attention? I was chained and couldn't even move. Wait… Is it because of…?
Rex unconsciously swallowed hard—he was restrained and couldn't move a muscle so it was not what he did that pulled Father Dominator's attention. Since it was clear that it wasn't because of what he did then the answer was clear.
Other than his actions, there was one more thing that he had complete control of—his mind.
He thought of killing the dragon snake earlier.
And it was at that very second did this happened to him.
Father Dominator, whoever he was, it's linked to that dragon snake. It could sense my killing intent as soon as I thought of killing. How would I know that? And even if I pulled his attention, he wouldn't be coming at me right now, right?
For the first time in the Spirit Realm, Rex felt threatened.
It was unusual for the System to be saying something like this.
Normally, the system would issue quests or ask for payment regarding anything that Rex wanted to know.
The System very rarely offered a warning—like this, the other time was when he was facing that damn Dominator of Dark Chaos, that massive creature that imprisoned Edward. Since the System didn't issue him any quest then even the System' wasn't sure Rex could defeat Father Dominator.
Soon, the pain subsided and it left Rex gasping for air.
Compared to the pain the executioner inflicted on him—this was beyond that.
Rex was slightly pale now.
If the scholar saw Rex like this, he would've been shocked.
"Damn it," He cursed under his breath. "I tried avoiding trouble but trouble kept finding me"
Meanwhile, beyond the border of the Dragna Sea.
Other than the soldiers who were sent to the border, some soldiers stayed behind in the case of a flank coming from the Black Rift by the Arcalen House. Despite having ten thousand soldiers, the main army was far less than that.
A portion of them was spread throughout the Dragna Sea, protecting the people who were in distress.
Nearing the actual battle, people became more restless and needed to be maintained.
"It's acting up again! Be ready!"
"No, no, no… please!"
"Stand your ground! Do not falter!"
On the east side of the bubble, the soldiers were panicking when the bubble began flickering.
It was more worrying when the black wind from the Black Rift began seeping a little inside, forcing the soldiers to patch it with their own life essence. All of them were sweating, none knew how much longer the bubble would last.
Beyond the bubble, the fresh air of life teased the Voidal Monsters.
Graah!
Roar!!
Some of the nearest Voidal Monsters sniffed the air, sensing the delicacy of life that was somewhat exposed to their domain. Like moths to a flame, these Voidal Monsters followed the scent of life until it vanished once again.
Every time a leak happened on the bubble, these Voidal Monsters crept closer and closer.
Considering the battle Davina had against the dragon snake and also the new Voidal Monarch that the Arcalen House found, the entire Dragna Sea would be decimated the moment the bubble was down. It was a very stressful situation.
Of course, the Voidal Monarch and Prince were usually very territorial.
As long as the spirits were away from their territories, they wouldn't attack.
It was because of Davina's presence and the few powerful spirits from the Ravencort House that those two came to this area so there's a high chance that those two would return back to their home once the situation settled down.
Even so, there was still a chance they still lingered around here and that thought was killing the soldiers.
Death would be mercy if they encountered those powerful Voidal Monsters.
Most of the time, they would be turned into their followers or puppets.
Stripped of their free will.
Swoosh!
Just then, every single guard and person inside Dragna Sea glanced over to the Obelisk of Life, a tower of light that has been their protector for countless years—and saw its light hummed, exploding a ring-like shockwave that spread across the sky.
All of them knew what this meant.
One more shockwave, one more humming of its light, and its life energy would've been exhausted.
…
A hundred miles from Dragna Sea and Dragna Land, inside the Ravencort House's land.
Noctem Vale is the land ruled over by the Ravencort House, it was a land that stretched vast and regal, divided—into two distinct realms. To the left lay a lush, beautiful lake, its waters miles deep, teeming with life and shimmering with untold beauty.
To the right rose Noctem Vale, a colossal spherical city of white and purple marble.
Its radius spans over ten miles.
One could tell the prosperity of the city from how the city gleamed under the sunlight.
Over two million souls called it home, and today, the air buzzed with celebration.
Considering that the breach in their protective bubble, a threat that had loomed over their peace had been sealed once again, thanks to the valor of Lady Davina—the celebrations were not surprising. At the very heart of Noctem Vale stood the House of Ravens, a crescent-shaped edifice that towered above all else.
It was the seat of the Ravencort House, its halls echoing with the footsteps of royalty.
Through one such hall strode Davina.
Her gown, crafted from the finest silks, shimmered with gold and emerald embellishments—the winged shield pendant at her chest was a symbol of her noble lineage and was accentuated by her appearance. She had just returned from the perilous mission, having occupied the Voidal Prince as the bubble was being repaired.
Now, she moved with the purpose of meeting Lord Bukharon, the Head of the House.
"Lady Davina…"
"Lady…"
"My Lady…"
As she walked, maids, guards, and even fellow royals knelt in her path, their heads bowed in respect.
Davina acknowledged each one of them with a slight lift of her chin, her poise unwavering—this was the life of the Duke's second daughter. A life of duty, honor, and unyielding grace. Though the weight of expectation never left her shoulders, she bore it with quiet pride.
Seeing them kneeling, some royals found it tiring and suffocating.
But for her, it was refreshing and fulfilling.
At last, she reached a towering door of carved great wood.
Standing there waiting for her was Mira, the eldest daughter of the Ravencort House, clad in a dignified purple gown. She wore minimal jewelry, modest—in her own home, which was a sign of respect she had for Davina who was the role model of all young royal ladies across the empire.
Her presence was serene and respectful.
"Where is Lord Bukharon? I've done my duty here and wish to depart," Davina said calmly.
Upon hearing this, Mira responded with a graceful nod, "Might you consider staying for dinner? Father is attending to pressing matters, yet he dearly wishes to express his gratitude to you in person for your generous aid. If your duties do not call you away urgently, we would be most honored by your presence at our table this evening"
Davina pondered for a second.
She recalled the situation back and home and quickly came to a decision.
"I will stay," She answered. "See you at dinner"
Not expecting to be accepted, Mira's eyes slightly widened but she quickly made a curtsy as a response.
"Have a good rest," She answered.
Just then, however, as Davina was about to head back to her temporary bedroom, Mira's eyes narrowed.
She saw a reddish notion on the right side of Davina's neck, "My Lady, are you perhaps, hurt?"
Davina stopped and frowned in confusion.
Mira gestured towards her neck and Davina instinctively reached at the spot, her eyes widening when she felt a warm liquid there. She pulled her hand and realized that it was her blood. Almost instantly, she grabbed a cloth from the maid behind her and covered her neck.
Her dignified and regal air was instantly replaced by a grim one.
A vague hint of reddish anger and shame could be seen crossing her, one that Mira had never seen.
Feeling worried, Mira reached for her hand.
But before she could even get close, Davina already turned around and paced through the corridor.
She said nothing and headed back to her bedroom as the two maids scurried after her in a panic.
Along the way, Davina's bi-colored eyes glanced over to the two maids behind her—a sharp gaze that could strip the will of anyone, "How can you two not see that I'm bleeding? Do you not have eyes?! Is this how low the quality of maids in this house?!"
Hearing this, the two maids stammered as no words came out of their lips.
One word from Davina and the two of them would be hanged.@@novelbin@@
Heck, if this reached Lord Bukharon, both of them would certainly be executed.
Rushing inside her room, Davina closed the door behind her.
She ignored the two maids shouting pleas outside, wanting to help tend her wound—and went straight to the dressing table. Davina tilted her head to the side and saw a small cut on her neck, it was nothing deadly, not even remotely close to being life-threatening.
However, her face and demeanor showed that she didn't take it lightly.
"When…?" She mumbled, recalling the battles earlier. "When did I get cut? I should've realized it"
Just then, the flash of the pink snake crossed her mind.
Even though that commoner, Rex was able to use a talisman—that diffused the pink snake's attack, it knew that it was going to be captured and shot something from its maw. It didn't hit her squarely but it managed to cut her.
Since the cut was so small, she didn't realize it until now.
Biting her lower lip, Davina took a vial from the table and applied it to the wound.
Almost instantly, the wound was healed but her face was still sour.
Davina placed her elbows on the table and grabbed her head with both hands, the calm—and dignified air cracked from a small cut, "How did I not realize it?" She mumbled, drowning in sorrow. "Why did I even drop my guard down? I should've easily dodged that lousy snake but I didn't. Had it not for that commoner, I would at least have a bigger wound that I could easily realize. Not this stupid small cut"
"Now where am I going to put my face?" She groaned. "I want to go home and forget about this…"
As she said that, her pupils dilated.
She glanced at the massive window to her side, seeing to the horizon ahead.
Even though she was lamenting her small but fatal mistake to her perfection, she could sense a massive wave of energy coming from the distance. It was a familiar sensation, one that she felt from an Obelisk of Life nearing the end of its time.
"Hmm?" Davina frowned. "Is there another city needing help? Why didn't they request my help?"
Meanwhile, Dragna Land.
A muscular and imposing man, bare-chested with only leg armor was seen standing upright.
He was standing in front of a grand pavilion.
Beside him was a proper woman, holding hands with a young girl no more than six.
"I'll be off," Lord Garvain mumbled tenderly.
His wife nodded with a pliant smile, placing her hand on his chest, "Come back with victory" Discover hidden content at My Virtual Library Empire
"I will," He replied firmly.
Averting his gaze away from his wife, he looked at his daughter and placed his massive hand over her small young head. He patted her gently with love, "Don't make trouble for your dear Mother. Remember, you can only be naughty when I'm around"
"Yes, come home quickly, Father!" She replied cheerfully.
Nodding his head, he headed out and walked along the rows of soldiers in front.
All of them wore unique dragon scales cloaks.
From their intel, Lady Davina was departing today so the full-scale attack was nearing.
Lord Garvain reached the front and climbed onto his war horse.
A massive horse the size of a rhino that looked normal with him mounting on it due to his stature, a horse reserved only for the manliest of men.
Pivoting towards his soldiers, Lord Garvain summoned his Soul Artifact, two ethereal battle axes that exuded power able to encase the entire bubble. In a theatrical motion, he slammed the two axes together and laughed humorously, "Men! Prepare yourself and be grateful for this opportunity! Men like us are only suitable to die in battle and battle I provide!"
"Rejoice! I'll drink for the first man to die!" He shouted and raised his battle axes.
Reacting to his charm, the soldiers roared—ready to battle under Lord Garvain's lead.
What do you think?
