Chapter 1452 Haughty Outsider
For the rest of the way, Eiran explained to Rex about the dynamics between the two houses.
Not too long ago, about five years ago, there was no Narsa House.
A coup happened.
Initially, Dragna Land and Dragna Sea belonged to the Arcalen House led by Fintura the Bad, who was Garvain's grandfather. Six years ago, Fintura killed his son, Alibhe because of a family feud, and that angered both his sons, Garvain and Franklin.
But as Fintura was their grandfather, Garvain and Franklin buried their hatred.
Not because they were scared but because Fintura was strong.
He possessed the Nine Kindred Dragon Echo, the strongest type too, the sea type.
Rex recalled Istvan's stats window, he also has the same Echo, but the flame type.@@novelbin@@
However, the brothers' wrath reached the boiling point five years ago during the birth of Garvain's first child. Realizing that it wasn't a boy, Fintura asked Garvain to get rid of her and keep trying until he got a boy as his first child.
And naturally, this infuriated Garvain which led to a coupe.
Garvain, with the help from Franklin, won the fierce battle against Fintura and took over the house.
As Fintura ruled with tyranny, there were a lot of people under him who also secretly hated him and one of those people was Istvan, who was Fintura's trusted advisor. However, knowing that Garvain was on a rampage, he decided to rally the remaining forces of Fintura's reign and occupy the Dragna Sea.
He fought back Garvain's forces and settled on the Dragna Sea.
It was then the Narsa House was built.
Istvan kept a strong front against Garvain to protect the people under him until Garvain calmed down.
And it was time to reveal that.
"What about Selvaris?" Rex asked. "What part does she play?"
Truthfully, he didn't want to know more about the houses but there's no going back now.
Eiran already explained to him about everything.
"As for her…" Eiran mumbled, gazing ahead at the army. "You'll know soon enough"
Moments earlier, a messenger was sent.
Istvan has written a formal message for Garvain, the messenger brought that message placed in a scroll and galloped across the Obelisk of Life's bubble—heading for the Dragna Land. Instead of killing their people in a bloodbath, Istvan offered the leaders and the chosen ones to be the ones doing the fighting.
That was thirty minutes ago.
Currently, Narsa House's forces were standing in formation near the border.
Istvan, Selvaris, Eiran, and Rex were at the very front, waiting for the messenger to come back.
Beyond them, separated by Dragna Sea's bubble was another bubble.
It was the main bubble that hosted the Obelisk of Life.
A place where their sanctuary was sourced from, the very place that would turn into a battlefield if the request from Istvan would be denied. On the complete opposite side from them was the border to Dragna Land—and all eyes were peering toward that place.
During the waiting period for Lord Garvain's answer, Selvaris and Eiran were completely nervous.
Both of them were afraid that the offer would be refused and there would be an all-out battle but Istvan was completely calm. He knew Garvain—he was there when Garvain was born and watched him grow up under the tutorship of his father and grandfather.
From the wording of the message, Istvan was confident that Garvaian would accept.
Garvain was a proud man and a direct challenge like this was always welcomed.
But the good news never came even though half an hour had passed.
As seconds turned to minutes, Istvan's confidence wavered but he remained strong and composed.
"Where is he?" Selvaris spoke up, a bead of sweat drizzling down the side of her face. "It's been half an hour already and there's no sign of him. I told you, Father, this wouldn't work. We should've prepared an ambush instead"
"Did he perhaps get captured?" Eiran added, also worried and stressed.
"Patience," Istvan intervened, riding on a small dragon mount that was humming with an azure aura. "He will definitely come—we only need to be patient. I know Garvain, his ego would not tolerate the words I've written. He will certainly accept the duel"
On the other hand, Rex squinted his eyes.
His vision zoomed like a telescope when he saw a shadow appearing on the other side.
One scan from the System and he instantly knew who it was.
A figure, riding a massive horse emerged from Dragna Land's bubble in a slow stride.
Despite the distance, his aura was flaring theatrically, and on his hand was a person, flailing helplessly.
It was the messenger, Garvain was holding him by the head as if he was nothing.
Such a sight slapped a look of complete shock on Istvan's face.
Garvain, geared to the teeth emerged, and with the messenger in his hand—his intent was clear.
Making eye contact with Istvan, Garvain threw the messenger above him and with a vicious stroke of his battle axe, he cut the messenger cleanly in half—spewing intestines, blood, and organs everywhere, an intimidating sight.
Upon close inspection, the horse he was riding on wore a necklace of twenty-helmed heads.
An intimidation display that rattled the will of Narsa House's forces.
Selvaris was shocked the most by this sight, those people were some of the capable soldiers she sent on hiding on the side to create chaos in Dragna Land in case the war happened. But surprisingly, Garvain anticipated that and used their heads as an intimidation tool.
Marching behind him was the vicious army of the Arcalen House, robust, fierce, and in formations.
Everyone stared at the sight as their grips tightened around their weapons.
It was a declaration of war—this civil war was inevitable.
On the other hand, Rex sneered inside.
So that's Lord Garvain… I must say, he's ridiculously imposing.
"Rex," Istvan called. "Go and talk to Garvain. Force him to accept the duel, now!"
Refusing to believe that this was really happening, Istvan decided to send Rex out of desperation.
Upon hearing this, Rex frowned inside but said nothing.
Eiran was the only one who looked at him with concern and that didn't escape Rex's sight. Continue your saga on My Virtual Library Empire
Nodding his head, Rex walked through the border and entered the main bubble.
He gazed straight at the opposition, scanning them as his body began to shift, muscle expanding, bones stretched, and fur sprouting along his skin. The transformation was slow, deliberate—a warning to the other side.
Rex had always been formidable but as his Werewolf form emerged, he became even more imposing.
An overwhelming presence surged from him, turning him into a beast of pure dominance.
All of the onlookers could only watch in awe and unease as his more feral side came into full display.
Once he was fully in his Werewolf form, Rex summoned both the Red Dawn of Kaiser and his Mask of the Banished Eclipse—activating two of his three Soul Artifacts while keeping the last one as his secret trump card.
Swoosh!
Life energy could be seen wheezing across his entire body aggressively.
A spectacular aura of red and black.
Rex lifted both of his hands as he got near the opposing army.
Once he was near enough to talk, he put down his hands and looked up at Garvain who was looking at him with interest, "I was new around the area, I don't know anyone," He started, placing both hands on his waist. "But I distinctly heard the name 'Garvain the Manly' being the talk of the people. The manliest of men, and I decided to side with the Narsa House to fight the one called Garvain. I was really looking forward to our fight but now I'm disappointed,"
"How dare a nobody talk like that to our Lord!" One of the soldiers spoke up and charged.
Gripping his azure sword, he leaped and slashed downward at Rex.
But in the next second, with ease, Rex shattered the sword with a flick of his claws.
Following that, he stabbed both hands into the soldier's chest and ripped him apart, killing him instantly.
Seeing this, the soldiers wanted to advance and destroy him but Garvain stopped them.
"But now I know why you are doing this," Rex shrugged nonchalantly as if he hadn't killed a man. "I mean, you only reigned your land for how long? Barely five years? I'm sure you don't want to risk your reign since these men are more powerful than the Narsa House's. army, and I understand. How else would you keep up your manly façade without a land?"
Despite the mockeries, Rex saw no change in his expression.
He was still smiling in amusement.
"Go back to your army before I kill you here, outsider," Garvain said, his voice baritone. "Your words are meaningless"
It was only then that Rex realized that taunting Garvain was meaningless but he had a backup plan.
"I'm only kidding," Rex waved his hand in front of his nose with a smile. "I'm sure you declined our proposal to duel because this involves the two houses deeply. Fighting alone would be unfair for these men who were eager for a battle"
"Not to mention…" Rex glanced at another person to his side, a slightly built man—with azure hair, riding the same horse as Garvain but white instead of black. "With that weak brother of yours, I'd also decline the duel offer if I were you fearing that he'd lose and taint your image"
"Who do you think you are?!" Frankling screamed, his aura flared like wildfire.
Seeing this, Garvain raised his hand.
But Franklin couldn't stop, the disrespect in front of the entire army made his face red—from complete and utter embarrassment. Rex changed target, it was hard to provoke someone who has it all but Franklin, on the other hand, the little brother, it was easy to provoke him.
Swoosh!
"Let's see you backed your words then, outsider!" Franklin screamed and leaped from his horse.
As his Soul Artifact mark glowed, two azure swords appeared in his hands.
"RARRGH!!" He unleashed a battle cry and swung both swords at Rex.
Clang!!
Rex blocked the sword—but the force behind Franklin, who was an Immortal Spirit, overpowered him instantly and threw him dozens of meters away. Before he could even recover, Franklin was already right on him again and swung down with both swords.
But this time, an intense amount of life energy was infused into his azure swords.
Clang!
Kaboom!!
Even though Rex was able to raise his claws to block in time, the strength was too much.
His back was slammed to the ground, creating snaking fissures in all directions.
"A mere Ascendant Spirit like you dared to gloat in front of me?!!" Franklin shouted, his eyes bulging with an unrelenting amount of fury as he pressed Rex down harder and harder. "Do you think I'm going to lose to the likes of you?! I'll kill you right now!"
Kaboom!!
Blood spewed out of his mouth.
Rex gritted his teeth and used everything he had to parry the two swords.
He moved his head out of the way as the swords struck the ground.
In that chance to recover, Rex maneuvered to the side and leaped away using Franklin's thigh as a foothold.
Rex got out of the way but Franklin was able to clipped him and left a long bloody slash on his chest.
Once he gained a few seconds to breathe, his eyes narrowed into focus.
Good, the army isn't advancing. It's a one-on-one. But he hadn't used his Spirit Genesis yet.
Just then, Rex blinked when he saw Franklin straightening his back—his azure aura exploded as he propelled himself forward with speed. Azure life energy could be seen gathering on the sword's tip as Franklin thrust forward, aiming to pierce Rex completely.
As the swords were about to pierce, Rex suddenly tilted his body in time.
Following that, Rex counterattacked, swiping his claws coated by the Red Dawn of Kaiser right at the face. Franklin reacted in time and pulled his face away but as he did that, he felt a weird pull—and to his surprise, he got hit by Rex's claws.
Receiving that slash, Franklin staggered back in shock as he felt a burn on his face.
He paused for a second to look at Rex in utter shock.
Soon, he reached for his cheek and realized that he was bleeding, causing him to suck in a cold breath.
On the other hand, Rex grinned.
I see now, the special effect is stronger than I thought.
What do you think?
