Chapter 1454 Family Complexities
A large-scale battle ensued with Rex and Eiran clamped at the center.
Rex was able to taunt Franklin into a duel but Lord Garvain was another thing entirely.
Instead of falling to the blatant taunt, Lord Garvain commanded his army to charge—which forced the Narsa House's army to advance too. A bloody clash then happened between the two forces as both sides fought with their all without pulling back.
Despite wanting to avoid a bloodbath like this, it was inevitable.
Due to the chaos, Rex's battle with Franklin came to a pause.
Only two minutes passed since the battle started and Rex already killed a hundred people already.
His claws and fangs were coated in warm, fresh blood.
Splash!
In a flash, Rex stabbed his claws into the throat of a charging Arcalen House soldier, halting him mid-charge. Following that, he grabbed ahold of the soldier's body and ripped his head apart with his fangs, savoring in the blood that tasted like cherry.
Not as good as the dragon snake's blood but good nonetheless.
Rex's eyes then darted to the area, his vision was now shaded with a deadly crimson hue.
Some of the Ascendant Spirit soldiers would be able to hold against me—normally, their mastery over their life energy should give them the edge over me. But with the Blood Moon Order skill active, every attack I made was not only stronger but possessed the Law of Inevitability.
None of them would be able to fend against me so that left only Franklin and Garvain.
Killing Franklin is possible but killing Garvain is still impossible for me. Not that I want to do it now.
During the initial clash between the two armies, Rex made sure to keep an eye on Garvain and Istvan, the two strongest in this battle. And in that moment, those two instantly used their Spirit Genesis and engaged in fierce combat.
Istvan's Spirit Genesis turned his spear into a water dragon.
It was so powerful that Rex could feel his aura rise tenfold, enveloping the entire main bubble.
Garvain, unwilling to look weak, used his own Spirit Genesis. Continue reading stories on My Virtual Library Empire
Unlike Istvan's Spirit Genesis or even Franklin's, Garvain's Spirit Genesis turned his entire body more draconic and his body swelled even bigger. He was able to breathe fire and clashed against Istvan with his bare hands.
Rex already scanned both of them.
He knew that Garvain's Soul Artifact wasn't the two battle axes but it was his body instead.
Both battle axes only came from a weapon talisman.
From observing them battle closely from the side, Rex learned the application of Echoes.
Istvan has two Echoes, the Nine Kindred Dragon and Magic.
The Nine Kindred Dragon Echo enhanced the power output of his Spirit Genesis multiple times, which made his already strong Spirit Genesis even more powerful. In addition, the Magic Echo created these water lances that surrounded the water dragon, aiding it during attacking or defending.
Similarly, Garvain has two Echoes—Nine Kindred Dragon and Warp.
Like Isstvan, Garvain's Nine Kindred Dragon Echo enhanced his Spirit Genesis power output while the Warp Echo added a bending wave to explode from each Garvain's attack. Due to his Second Echo, all attacks from Istvan were able to be deflected or dismantled.
Of course, the System's analysis feature helped him break their battles down.
He began to grasp the fundamentals of Spirit Genesis and Echo because of those two powerhouses.
However, Rex was troubled about something.

…
A special Voidal Knight is coming and intervening in this battle—this is good for both houses. If such a Voidal Monster broke through the bubble and attacked them right now, there would be no other choice—but to fight together, and that is what Istvan wanted.
Istvan might be too occupied to notice but Garvain, he must know about this.
From Rex's assessment, it was clear that Garvain was the most capable person of both houses.
And the fact that he was boasted to be the manliest of men but has the self-control to not be taunted by Rex earlier showed that he wasn't stupid. In fact, contrary to his all-muscle-no-brain appearance, there's a chance that he might be an exceptional schemer.
So Rex found it odd that Garvain still decided to attack knowing the incoming Voidal Monster.
Banding together, that's what Istvan wanted not Garvain.
If destroying the Narsa House was really what he wanted, he wouldn't have engaged like this.
Instead, he would strengthen Dragna Land's bubble and let the Voidal Knight attack the Narsa House.
But that was not what Garvain did.
He must want the two armies to collide with the Voidal Knight, but why….?
Pivoting to the other side, Rex gazed across the battlefield to Dragna Land's bubble.
Of course, he paid close attention to Istvan and Garvain—and now, their fight led them there.
Even though their clash happened at the center of the bubble, those two somehow ended up toward the Dragna Land, leaving the two armies fighting fiercely behind. An act that Rex found odd and certainly suspicious.
Garvain is stronger than Istvan, so how come they ended up in the Dragna Land's bubble?
They expect me to believe Istvan managed to push Garvain easily? They must think all of us are fools.
Meanwhile, inside the Dragna Land's bubble.
On the edge of the border, far away from the people of Dragna Land—who were sheltered on the other side was a column of water. Inside it was a small space, enough for two people to talk. Naturally, the two people inside were Istvan and Garvain.
Despite being in battle earlier, these two had come to a temporary truce to talk.
But even then, the tension between them was still palpable.
Glancing at the column of water, Istvan frowned—a bead of cold sweat running down his face.
'Sea-type of the Nine Kindred Dragon Echo, he took it from Fintura' He thought inside.
Since Garvain's Soul Artifact was his own body—and his Spirit Genesis transformed his body into a draconic form, the Nine Kindred Dragon Echo—allowed him to manipulate water too. If Istvan fought him earnestly, it would've been a disaster.
"I was wondering why you're weaker but turns out you're holding back," Istvan started, frowning.
Upon hearing this, Garvain let out a hearty laugh, amused by Istvan's words—surely, the very thought of such a thing happening was nothing more than a joke. Smirking, he tilted his head slightly, "I know you've been wanting to talk to me for years, so I'm giving you this one chance. Besides, it'll be your last. Speak your mind, I'm all ears"
Istvan was troubled by the threat but he shook his head free from worry.
"First of all," He started. "What is the reason for your animosity against us?"
"You rebelled against me," Garvain answered shortly.
It was a simple answer to a simple question.
"Because you would've killed me and a bunch of us without mercy," Istvan answered with his reason.
Garvain managed to deal the final blow, killing Fintura after suffering horrendous damage to his own body. As soon as he did that, the forces under Fintura led by Istvan rallied together and rebelled against him, taking over Dragna Sea with them.
But Istvan did that knowing that Garvain wouldn't spare them.
He believed that all of the forces under Fintura were bad people and needed to be plucked.
"Do you blame me for seeking blood? Would you not do the same if your own grandfather asked you to rid of your first daughter?" Garvain asked, his proud and beaming expression turned dark in an instant. "In a coup, the lackeys from the last reign should be wiped out—that's the natural path"
"But…" He stretched his muscular arm and pointed to the ground. "I'll spare the others if you give me your life right here and right now. Since you think there were people under my grandfather who were good, prove it and kill yourself right here"
Upon hearing this, Istvan's face softened as he let out a sigh.
He knew Garvain's pain exactly, the pain that made the cheerful kid end up like this.
It was understandable.
All of this was because of his wicked grandfather who was obsessed with having powerful heirs.
"I know your grandfather is wicked, which was why—you decided to kill him," Istvan said, looking at Garvain tenderly. "Asking you to kill your first child because it was a girl, I too would react the same in your position. I've seen this happen before… Alibhe also experienced the same thing but he's not as strong as you"
As soon as Garvain heard his Father's name mentioned, his eyes widened.
But then, he tilted his head in utter confusion.
"Father?" He repeated, looking at Istvan intently. "What do you mean by that?"
Gritting his teeth, Garvain flashed step the distance between them and grabbed Istvan by his neck.@@novelbin@@
He pinned Istvan against the water column, his grip tightening like an iron vice.
"You dare disrespect my Father?! In the end, you're still the loyal dog of grandfather!" He roared.
Instead of fighting back, Istvan smiled acutely, "Yes, I'm a loyal dog… but not to Fintura. I'm indebted to your Father. I say that your Father is not as strong as you because he couldn't kill your grandfather, how could he kill your grandfather? So he decided to exile his first daughter under the pretense of her being killed. In truth, I raised her. I served Fintura as his right-hand man because I needed to, because I needed to be the one in control and watch closely to protect your big sister"
"Big sister…?" Garvain gasped. "I have a sister?"
"Yes," Istvan nodded. "It's the woman who claimed to be my daughter. Selvaris is your sister"
Upon hearing this revelation, Garvain's hand loosened.
Istvan landed back on his feet and rubbed his throbbing neck, "I rebelled because you're not in your right mind, and I feared for Lady Selvaris' safety. You could mistake her as a follower of Fintura as she claims to be my daughter but she's not, she's your sister"
Learning of this sent Garvain in a spiral.
He didn't know how to react.
All he wanted to do was to keep his Father's legacy alive, the Arcalen House alive, that's why he was fighting against the Narsa House But now that he learned that the Narsa House was created in order to protect his sister, he didn't know what to do.
Seeing through his mind, Istvan placed his hand on Garvain's shoulder.
"Lady Selvaris inherited your Mother's Soul Artifact and Echo, she's an exceptional alchemist," Istvan said with a firm tone, forcing Garvain to look at him once again. "With you and her together, without a doubt, the Arcalen House will soar to a new height. We could expand and challenge other houses"
Once his mind settled on the fact, Garvain nodded his head.
"I never expected this but we can have this talk later," He said, pivoting back to the battle.
Recalling the ongoing battle, Istvan nodded and asked, "Why are you bent on this battle?"
"Before I knew of this, I'm also planning on an expansion," Garvain explained, sharing his plan as the two of them were now on the same side. "I realized that my soldiers are too weak, only a few of them were in the Ascendant Spirit rank. I'm planning on rooting out the weak from the strong but they all served my Father so I can't kill them cold-heartedly,"
Istvan was surprised by this but he understood.
With the war between them, the weaker ones would die out in the glory of battle.
Garvain would still honor them as loyalists this way.
"I'm also planning on cleaning the weaklings from your forces so I've lured a Voidal Knight here," He added, gazing at his men ahead who were battling vigorously. "Soon, it would arriveand I would open the main bubble. Our soldiers will unite then, and we could fight alongside each other and take it down"
Hearing this, Istvan's eyes widened.
'Just like his grandfather, he's also meticulous and cunning' He thought inside.
"But I'm still unsure if we could beat it," Garvain added.
Istvan shook his head confidently, "We have that outsider, Lord Franklin, and Lady Selvaris. We could certainly take down the Voidal Knight and recharge our Obelisk of Life. Once we get the Life Gem, we have no need for that outsider. You can kill him and absorb his life energy"
As soon as Istvan said that, Garvain looked at him in surprise.
Then, an evil smile bloomed on Istvan's face.
"Yes…" He nodded, "That outsider has an Imbalanced Spiritual Vein. You can devour him"
What do you think?
