Chapter 1492: Start of the Hunt
Once the day came to pass, Rosa immediately delivered her end of the deal.
For the sake of a reward and also Rex's spirit body, she decided to help Rex in his endeavor.
Rex wasn't staying for long so Rosa has no qualms with him getting stronger.
More importantly, even if he did have bad intentions, his power wouldn't be enough to resist the might of the Aurelius Noble House. He'd die instantly—as he was still nothing more than an Immortal Spirit, an ant still.
Early in the morning, Rex and the others were picked up.
A royal carriage arrived in front of the carriage and waited for them to come down.
Since Rex had conveyed his urgency, Rosa moved fast—and arranged for him to be escorted as soon as she possibly could. She already mapped the route they were going to go through, located the special Voidal Knights, and arranged for someone to escort Rex.
As this was her house's territory, she practically knew everything above and below this land.
"Good morning, Lord Rex," A woman in red and gold dress armor—placed one hand on her chest and bowed slightly. Her face was covered by her helmet completely—and the only feature Rex noticed was her dark red long hair that fell freely from inside the helmet. "My name is Crimoria, a Dame of the Aurelius Noble House, and I'm tasked to be your guide."
Rex stared at her for a second longer as if he could see through her helmet.
Under her gaze, Crimoria felt uneasy and exposed.
"Good morning to you too, Dame Crimoria," Rex averted his gaze away and nodded. "Shall we?"
"Yes," Crimoria opened the carriage door and stepped to the side.
Rex, followed by Linthia, Amanir, and Kraken entered the carriage without a single word.
Due to Amanir's large frame, he was having a hard time getting inside.
Fortunately, he could shrink himself slightly, allowing him to squeeze through.
To Rex's surprise, the carriage was far more spacious on the inside—despite the four of them entering, there was still ample room for more. Crimoria also entered the carriage after all of them got in but when she was about to close the door, a voice stopped her mid-track.
"Wait for me!" Viora emerged from the castle gate and shouted, running towards the carriage.
Seeing this, Rex's eyes widened.
Once she managed to reach the carriage, slightly panting, she got inside with a pliant smile.
"Priestess, what are you doing?" Rex asked, stopping her from getting in.
"I'm coming with you," Viora answered as if that explained everything. "Is there a problem?"
"Of course there is, you're a priestess. I don't think your status is fitting to scuffle against mere Voidal Monsters," Rex replied—his voice bearing the politeness that wasn't present last night. After all, he couldn't treat Viora as if she was nothing in public. "You can't come,"
"Didn't you promise to teach me?" Viora retorted as she pushed through Rex's hand. "Besides, we are not done with your training yet. I still need to guide you in mapping your Spirit Genesis structure. A lot of ways to harm yourself if you do it alone, and you wouldn't want that, would you?"
"I can handle it, there's no need for you to personally help me in a hostile place," Rex argued.
Instead of answering him, Viora turned to Crimoria.
"Am I lying, Dame Crimoria?" Viora's golden eyes glowed, asking Crimoria to back her up.
Confused as to what this was all about, Crimoria, as dense as she was—nodded with a serious face.
"Priestess Viora is correct. Mapping the Spirit Genesis is paramount for building a solid foundation," She explained. "If the Spirit Genesis lacks clarity in its purpose and compatibility, you'll find yourself stuck, unable to break through to the next rank"
Upon hearing this, Rex paused for a second before going back to his seat.
He couldn't say no to this now or else he'd be seen as impolite towards a Priestess of Purity.
And from Viora's expression, it seemed she was relying on that fact.
Why was she aiming to achieve by coming with me, anyway? Did she want to see a Scion's power? No, that can't be right. Never mind. Keeping her beside me is probably for the best, so that the Saintess of Purity knew that I'm no threat.
Since it already come to this, Rex reclined on his seat and turned away.
Viora smiled and took a seat right between Linthia and Crimoria.
It didn't take long before the carriage moved.
"Hey," Linthia whispered, leaning slightly toward Viora the moment Rex closed his eyes and began to meditate. "Are you sure—you want to come with us? It's going to be dangerous, and I heard your Soul Artifact is support-type. Not to mention, being near us isn't good for you. I'm sure you understand,"
"I'll be fine," Viora waved her hand in front of her nose dismissively. "I'm stronger than all of you"
Upon hearing this, Linthia smiled in annoyance as Viora didn't get the hint.
Linthia was uncertain whether Viora was dense or she was ignoring what she meant.
Obviously, she knew Viora could handle herself but that wasn't what she was trying to say.
"I am saying that if you come with us, what happened to you last night will get worse," Linthia finally said clearly and bluntly. "You might think you can handle her—but you can't. She could sense you even across realms, do you think she's simple?"
Almost instantly, Viora's mind clicked as to what Linthia was talking about.
She was talking about the nosebleed last night.
"Who is she? I had a nightmare and woke up very weak because of her," Viora turned and asked.
Linthia smiled acutely, she too was afraid of mentioning 'her' name.
"Just know that she's going to be persistent, there will be a lot of nosebleeds and nightmares," Linthia said before turning away—as the carriage zoomed past the gate, leaving the fortress' premises. "Our talk about her ends here, we don't want her to be angrier"
Despite wanting to know more, Viora decided to not push further.
All she needed to know was to be more careful.
Soon, the carriage rode out of the bubble and into the Black Rift.
As soon as the carriage left the bubble, the on-coming rush of black wind—struck them hard, sending a deep chill that could even freeze the bones. Swiftly, Crimoria took out a multi-faceted crystal from a drawer underneath the seat.
She extended her hand outside the window and instantly, the crystal exploded into a million pieces.
Brilliant light emerged from within the crystal and instantly enveloped the carriage and beyond.
Linthia looked outside the window and found the darkness of the Black Rift was pushed away—the black wind in about a hundred meters in radius from the carriage was blown away. Clearly, this was the work of a Seeker Flare but there was no Seeker that sustained it.
"What is this?" She mumbled inwardly.
"A Flare Crystal from a powerful Seeker of the house," Viora answered. "It can last up to five days,"
"Five days…?" Linthia sucked in a cold breath.
It was extremely strong considering that the Seeker itself—was not here, this was only its Seeker Flare that was contained within a crystal. Perhaps, compared to the Seeker they met who almost caught them back in the Arcalen House's bubble, the Seeker that made this was stronger.
Amanir, who was silent all this while, looked at Crimoria, "Where are we going exactly?"
"Great Elder Rosa has prepared the most effective path to take on all special Voidal Monsters—in the area," Crimoria explained as she took out a map. "We'll start from the east at the Rocky Puzzle which has two special Voidal Knights at the Immortal Spirit rank and work our way to the west until we reach the Forsaken Pinnacle,"
"In total," She pointed at the red marks on the map. "We should have seven special Voidal Knights"
As she said that, she turned to Rex.
"I believe seven Life Gems are enough to bolster his power to the Master Immortal rank," She added.
Upon hearing this, Amanir frowned as that didn't seem like enough, "Did you forget that he has two SSS-grade Soul Artifacts? Both needed a lot more life energy to advance, and I don't think seven would be enough"
"Don't worry, we still have one more," Crimoria said.
She pointed at the Forsaken Pinnacle spot on the map and tapped on it a couple of times.
"There's a reason we'd end our endeavor here," She said, her tone weighted with meaning. "According to the report, the tower houses three formidable Voidal Knights at the Immortal Spirit rank that had been siphoning life energy from the tower for three hundred years. But at its pinnacle was our real target,"
"A Voidal Knight at the Master Immortal Spirit rank known as the Singing Lady, that's our real target. My men and I will take her down together… and you're welcome to help us," Crimoria rolled the map and put it away.
Obtaining a Life Gem from a Master Immortal Spirit rank Voidal Monster would be a game changer.
Surely, Rex would easily reach the next rank with that.
Meanwhile, Rex was currently meditating.
He was deep within his consciousness, in an empty space with two Soul Artifacts hovering before him.
Both were the Aegis of the Moon Sentinel and also the Mask of the Banished Eclipse.
"Based on the System, the Mask of the Banished Eclipse is of a higher grade," Rex mumbled in thought, recalling that the Banished Eclipse Mask was actually an SSS+ grade instead of an SSS grade. "It also contained a good law, one that I could rely on, the Minor Law of Foresight. But I only confessed that I only have two Soul Artifacts and showed the Aegis of Moon Sentinel to Rosa"
Since the Mask of the Banished Eclipse was stronger, Rex wanted to develop that.
He wanted to make it reach the Immortal Spirit rank.
Not to mention, it was also a Hybrid-type—the Spirit Genesis he could make from it was endless.
Rex could be as creative as he could.
However, doing that would expose his third Soul Artifact to the Aurelius Noble House so he couldn't.
Finding his answer already, he pushed aside the Mask of the Banished Eclipse and focused on the Aegis of Moon Sentinel, "A new Ascendant Spirit must create a Spirit Genesis Map before proceeding in their path to power. I need to make sure the Spirit Genesis I envisioned was aligned with the Soul Artifact's type, compatible with its abilities, and compatible with a wide range of Echo"
Viora explained that a new Ascendant Spirit would spend at least ten years to create the map.
And it must be done within that twenty-year timeframe.
Since spirits get stronger through time, their power would naturally grow gradually, and usually, at the twenty-year mark, they would ascend to Ascendant Spirit 2. At that point, if they were forced to create their Spirit Genesis.
If the mapping was not done then, their foundation would be guaranteed to be weak.
Just like in the Mortal Realm, a lot of factors could dictate one's strength.
And to be strong, it would follow a complex path.
However, Rex doesn't have that problem as he has the System to help him with the complexities.
All he needed to have was determination.
"System, analyze the Aegis of Moon Sentinel Soul Artifact and give me three recommendations of good Spirit Genesis that have the highest compatibility with it," Rex mused as he crossed his arms, this would speed up the process. "Make sure they were highly compatible with its abilities and its type,"
<Affirmative.>
<Analyzing…>
<…>
<…>
<Complete! Here are three paths the user could take in developing the Spirit Genesis:>
It didn't take long for the System to analyze the perfect Spirit Genesis, perhaps because the System was the one that converted the King Mark he has into this Soul Artifact. Rex looked at the three screens in front of him and smirked, "Twenty years? I got it done in a few seconds,"
What do you think?
