Chapter 6 – Silencing(1)
Chapter 6: Silencing (1)
The pantry was eerily quiet.
The air was frozen, and Gao Yang could hear his own heartbeat accelerating like crazy: It's over, we've definitely been discovered.
Gao Yang turned his head to look at Qing Ling, who had an expressionless face. Her brain was working at high speed:
If Officer Huang is an Angry Beast, she has no chance of winning.
Killing an Angry Beast was not difficult for her, but there were over a hundred "people" outside the pantry. Once she exposed her identity as an Awakened Being, she would undoubtedly die.
Should she escape?
It was meaningless. Even if she escaped now, her identity had already been exposed, and she wouldn't live for more than a few days.
Qing Ling's previous companion was stronger than her, but still died because of carelessly exposing their identity.
She had no choice but to bet on the last possibility.
"Officer Huang, what are you doing here?" Qing Ling asked after three seconds.
Officer Huang slowly walked to the water dispenser, bent down to get a cup of cold water, completely exposing his back to Qing Ling and Gao Yang.
After getting the water, he turned around and leaned against the table next to the water dispenser. "It's still Li Weiwei's case. I wanted to investigate the people around her, so I came to attend the funeral."
"Did you find anything?" Gao Yang tried his best to act concerned about the progress of the case.
"I asked around and got some leads. But I can't tell you." Officer Huang took a sip of water and smiled. "By the way, what were you talking about just now? It sounded interesting, something about beasts and rules?"
Gao Yang's heart sank. It seemed that he couldn't deceive his way through.
Since that was the case, he had to try his luck.
"A popular survival game we've been playing recently. It's very popular." Gao Yang glanced at Qing Ling. "We were talking about the game."
"Really?" Officer Huang nodded thoughtfully. "What's the name of this game?"
"It's called... 'Monster Human Family Gathering'."
"The name sounds interesting." Officer Huang sighed with envy. "Young people are so lucky. Unlike us working folks, we haven't had any entertainment for a long time."
After finishing his water, Officer Huang placed the disposable cup on the water dispenser and leisurely walked out of the pantry.
In just a minute, Gao Yang was covered in cold sweat, his back completely soaked.
He asked Qing Ling, "What do we do now?"
Qing Ling frowned slightly. "There are two possibilities. One, he is an Angry Beast and has become suspicious of us, deliberately testing us. Two, he is a Foolish Beast."
"Foolish Beast?"
"Foolish Beasts are quite special, also known as 'Lost Ones'. They think they are humans and have deceived themselves. Even if an Awakened Being appears in front of them, they won't harm the Awakened Being. They usually automatically ignore key information and correct their brain's logic and memory."
"If Officer Huang is a Foolish Beast, we are safe." Gao Yang concluded.
"Yes, but I won't bet on that probability." Qing Ling walked to the door and looked through the crack at Officer Huang in the Spirit Hall. "Angry Beasts have an extreme desire for prey and would devour Awakened Beings alone, never sharing with their kind."
Gao Yang remembered Li Weiwei's appearance when she tried to kill him. "I've seen it..."
"There are over a hundred people in the Spirit Hall now, and there is definitely more than one Angry Beast inside. This may be the reason why Officer Huang hasn't attacked us."
"He wants to devour us alone." Gao Yang took a sharp breath.
"The possibility is high." Qing Ling looked at Gao Yang with cold eyes. "We still have a chance, let's silence him first."
...
At 10 PM, Shanqing District, Police Station.
After the funeral, Officer Huang drove directly back to the police station.
Qing Ling and Gao Yang followed in a taxi. After getting off the taxi, they went to a café across the street from the police station and found a window seat that was convenient for observation.
They ordered some food and drinks, then took out their textbooks and pretended to study together, actually just killing time.
Gao Yang initially refused when Qing Ling suggested killing Officer Huang. But after some thought, he realized that if Qing Ling failed, he would eventually die as well.
Since he was going to die anyway, he might as well die standing.
This way... at least it would seem more dignified.
"I have a lot of questions to ask you." Gao Yang took a sip of orange juice.
"Go ahead." Qing Ling lowered her head and ate a mango pancake. She used her knife and fork to cut the pancake into eight pieces, resembling how she would deal with an enemy.@@novelbin@@
"Besides me, do you have any other companions?"
"Didn't I tell you before? I knew two others before, but they both died."
"So, you've always been alone?" Gao Yang found it hard to believe.
"Two." Qing Ling's gaze shifted. "And my sister."
Gao Yang realized she was referring to his second personality, Qing Ning.
"You and your sister... have had it tough."
"Just worry about yourself." Qing Ling put down her fork. "If our plan fails later, I will escape and hide."
A quick look at " will leave you more fulfilled.
"What about me?" Gao Yang asked.
"I don't know." Qing Ling's eyes turned cold. "I won't take care of a burden."
Gao Yang felt hurt.
He wasn't a burden, he had Talent!
But then he thought it would be better not to embarrass himself in front of a beautiful woman.
The two of them waited until late at night. Officer Huang finally came out of the police station.
He walked to the police car on the side of the road, but just as he took out his car keys, he froze. He looked down and saw that the front tire was punctured—Qing Ling had remotely controlled a dagger to pierce it.
Officer Huang didn't show much annoyance. He took out his phone, made a call with a smile, then crossed the road and bought a pack of cigarettes.
Qing Ling and Gao Yang kept a distance of about fifty meters, carefully following him.Officer Huang was smoking and making a phone call as he passed by a city park. He turned into it, seemingly taking a shortcut.
"Here's our chance." Qing Ling quickened her pace.
"Do you think he's setting a trap for us?" Gao Yang was highly suspicious.
Qing Ling's eyes hardened, "Then let's see who the real prey is."
In the dead of night, the city park was dense with trees and devoid of tourists. Officer Huang walked alone on the night path, a solitary figure. The more it was like this, the more Gao Yang felt that this man was unfathomable and extremely dangerous.
Qing Ling and Gao Yang took out masks and sunglasses from their backpacks and put them on. They followed Officer Huang into the depths of the park, and when the opportunity arose, they slipped behind a neatly trimmed bush.
Qing Ling extended her hands, aiming at the surveillance camera on the street lamp above.
She was focused, seemingly controlling something. Two seconds later, she gently clenched her fist, and a faint sound came from the surveillance camera. The "red dot" disappeared.
"You go out and stop him, say anything to distract him." Qing Ling whispered, "Leave the rest to me."
Gao Yang was very nervous, "Okay."
Gao Yang took a deep breath, stepped out of the bushes, and quickly caught up, "Officer Huang."
Officer Huang stopped and turned around, "Who are you?"
Gao Yang pulled down his mask, "Oh, it's me."
"Gao Yang? What are you doing here so late?" Officer Huang smiled.
Gao Yang continued his act, "About Li Weiwei's case, I suddenly remembered a clue and wanted to tell you."
"Really?" Officer Huang walked towards Gao Yang with a smile, slightly eager, "Alright, tell me..."
Suddenly, Officer Huang's smile disappeared.
He quickly turned around and drew the gun from his waist.
What do you think?
