Chapter 144: Candidates
Beneath the trimmed and washed fluffy brown short hair was the slightly plump face of a young man with a healthy complexion. Though still carrying a bit of excess fat, it did not affect the distribution of his facial features.
The navy blue sports suit featured flat lapels with single-row metal buttons, matched with a British-style striped legion tie, authentic British slant pockets, cotton twill khaki trousers, and brown brogue leather shoes.
The belly that should have put great pressure on the buttons had shrunk considerably and now protruded only slightly.
Due to the significant changes in his appearance and physique, Yi Chen didn’t recognize him at first glance.
It was only by his voice and facial features that Yi Chen recognized this disciple of the principal—Ludwig Reagan.
“Mr. Reagan, is that really you?”
“Yes, my body was really quite embarrassing before. I never expected that immersing myself in research and snacks could make one gain weight so quickly.
I spent a whole week reshaping my physique and barely managed to bring my physique back to [2].
After our conversation last week, I thought seriously about it for one night and finally decided to accept your proposal to go out and seek opportunities. As for the job at the power station, it’s temporarily on hold. The station manager was quite amiable and told me to take care of things before returning to work.”
Yi Chen had a complicated expression, the situation being a bit too coincidental, “We just happen to be dealing with a relic incident here and are short of one person to report it. Are you sure you want to join, Mr. Reagan?”“It seems my luck is quite good today; could you explain more about the incident?”
Just as the two were having an enjoyable conversation,
Jin stepped quickly in between them, stretching his neck and sizing up the individual whose physique had only returned to [2], whose aura was clearly unstable, and who had been invited to become the ‘third person’.
However,
As Jin approached this person to a certain extent, her slaughter instinct immediately sensed a uniquely dangerous aura… This danger was strange, cold, and bizarre, unlike any individual she had encountered even in Cesimani.
At that moment,
Yi Chen placed his hand on Jin’s shoulder, taking the role of mediator as he introduced them:
“Jin, this is Ludwig Reagan. Like me, he is a chosen one of the Purple Letter. Due to the professional raise in his Sensing Limit, his Sensing value has reached the Transcendent Level—[7].
Mr. Reagan is quite remarkable.”
Upon hearing Yi Chen’s introduction, Jin became even more interested.
“Oh? A rare Transcendent Level Profession… With such high perception, it could indeed be very helpful in exploring the Gray Domain, maybe even help us quickly Lock in strong enemies in the Gray Domain.
Nice, come join us!”
Yi Chen also stepped forward to introduce his partner, “Mr. Reagan, this is Jin Almeda from Cesimani. Her strength is above mine.”
Reagan seemed unfazed by Jin’s impolite behavior.
His extraordinary Sensing let him discern that within this female Gentleman’s body lurked an incredible and terrifying power, which in some respects had surpassed the ‘Limit of Man.’
At the same time, the weapon Jin carried also made him feel a sense of danger.
Reagan, who had studied at the academy, had silently observed his peers and the students from the year above and below, had never seen such a formidable peer Gentleman.
He even faintly perceived behind Jin, from the Aura gathered, a slaughter demon filled with Slaughter Knives and decorated with Red Lotus Tattoos, extremely terrifying. R̃áℕ𝙤BЕ𝙨
Despite sensing a kind of obsessive madness from within Jin that might cause the team to become somewhat unstable. But this instability was negligible compared to her strength.
The three casually chose a less crowded alley instead of going to a bar or restaurant,
and quickly discussed the details of the ‘relic incident.’
“From rare to moderate natural Gray Domain, a new passage, and the involvement of three small teams? The risk factor indeed isn’t high; it’s a very good mission, likely to attract many teams competing for the opportunity.
By the way, if we do obtain relics from the incident, how shall they be allocated?”
“By the main Attributes of each individual, all Sensing Type relics shall belong to you, Mr. Reagan… We do hope to obtain several relics.”
“Okay, then it’s settled!” Reagan, with a sunny smile, officially became the third member of the team.
“Great.”
Yi Chen was also extremely delighted; he hadn’t expected that the groundwork he’d laid a week ago would emerge right at the necessary time today, filling the mandatory requirements of the incident.
“The relic incident is registered in Cesimani; we need your ID, Mr. Reagan, so a senior officer can report it for us to the organization’s higher ups. We should have the results in about a day.”@@novelbin@@
Reagan directly handed over his gentleman’s certificate while pondering the issue of time.
“So there’s only one day to prepare, right? Then I’ll trouble Mr. William to submit the personal information. I need to make a trip back to the Power Station, as there are some necessary items that need to be organized and assembled… some things related to Faye.”
“Then let’s meet directly at Gentleman Hall tomorrow, and I’ll return the gentleman’s certificate to you then.”
As Reagan departed,
Jin suddenly leaned his head against Yi Chen’s shoulder, an intimacy that made the latter instinctively shiver,
“William, I didn’t expect you to have already started scouting for new team members and kept it hidden from me.
It’s the first time I’ve met such a peculiar individual, not even Cesimani has such ‘oddities’.”
“Jin, did you notice anything?”
“On the surface, he appears to adhere to so-called gentlemanly etiquette, pretending to be harmless.
“In reality, he harbors a ‘violent nature’. I cannot directly see it, but my instincts don’t lie…he’s killed nearly as many as I have.”
“Mr. Reagan indeed wears a mask far more secretive than ordinary people, but I have already seen his ‘True Face’ under that mask. His nature isn’t evil, and he possesses a strong sense of personal purpose.
With his assistance, our chances of finding the Relic will be significantly increased.”
At this point, Jin hooked the collar of Yi Chen’s shirt with his finger, leaned out, and sniffed closely, as if identifying some peculiar scent.
“Even more secretive? Is it more secretive than yours, William?
I can smell the strange aura inside you~ It’s precisely because of this that I became interested in you upon our first meeting…It seems this ‘strange scent’ inside you has become slightly stronger.
Has something happened recently?”
“Nothing much, let’s quickly report our names to the instructor.”
…
[Cesimani]
When Ludwig Reagan’s gentleman’s certificate was handed to Beili, she immediately pulled up his information using Cesimani’s internal network, and part of the information was even confidential.
“A researcher from the Power Station? Where did you find this guy? It’s not easy at all! Such a talented individual of the Transcendent Level in Sensing, and it’s his first mission related to the Relic?
If he were made public, I wonder how many teams would scramble for him.”
Yi Chen explained briefly, “A while ago, due to a chance encounter, I met Reagan. He initially had no plans to leave the city…I might have convinced him.”
“The choice of this ‘Third Person’ is excellent. Make good use of his ‘Sensing’; I have a feeling your outing this time will yield great results.”
As Instructor Beili reported the team’s information, the organization’s higher-ups immediately took special note of the unique name ‘Ludwig Reagan’ as soon as they received the report.
Immediately, they dispatched a thin, black-clad gentleman wearing a demon mask to bring a hand-copied document of the team to someone.
[Ten minutes later]
Omphalo-Centric-Academy, atop the Fetal Heart Church’s principal’s office
Clad only in floating feather wings, as if bathing in the starry sky, Principal Daislin received the secret document delivered by the organization’s higher-ups.
When she saw the name on it,
a gentle chuckle reverberated through the principal’s office,
and her wings unfolded,
carrying her to the spacious stargazing balcony where one could oversee the entire campus and breathe the freshest air.
“So the ‘cemetery’ star formation has indeed caused these two to intersect? Reagan, deeply immersed in consciousness studies, hasn’t engaged in actual combat for a long time, and his physical condition has severely deteriorated; heading directly to the Gray Domain might not suit him.
Let’s have the organization’s guys busy themselves a bit.”
Principal Daislin wrote a reply, sealed it with her unique starry night feather wax seal, and gently tossed it upward.
The campus night wind then carried this letter, delivering it all the way from the campus into the hands of the messenger who had brought it.
What do you think?
