chapter 7 Killling the Bandits
The leader blinked, momentarily taken aback by the statement. Then he laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "What, you some kind of fortune-teller? Yeah, I’ve killed before. And I’ll kill again if you don’t hand over your valuables."
Su Xuan’s lips curled into a cold, almost imperceptible smile. "You won’t get the chance."
The bandit’s laughter died in his throat, replaced by a scowl. "Big words for a man outnumbered three to one. You think you can take us all on?"
Su Xuan didn’t respond. Instead, he drew his blade, the metal gleaming faintly in the moonlight. The bandits hesitated, sensing the shift in the air. There was something about the way Su Xuan moved—calm, deliberate, and utterly unafraid—that unnerved them.
The leader’s scowl deepened, and he spat on the ground. "Fine. Have it your way. Boys, let’s teach this fool a lesson."
With a roar, the leader charged forward, his sword raised high. His companions followed suit, their weapons glinting in the dim light. But Su Xuan was already moving, his Nytheris Oculus allowing him to see the faintest movements, the slightest shifts in their auras, as if time itself had slowed.
He sidestepped the leader’s strike with ease, his blade flashing in a precise arc. The bandit’s sword clattered to the ground, followed by his severed hand. The man screamed, clutching the stump as blood poured from the wound.
Su Xuan didn’t pause. He spun to face the second bandit, who was mid-swing with a crude axe. With a flick of his wrist, Su Xuan’s blade sliced through the man’s throat, silencing him before he could even cry out.
The third bandit froze, his eyes wide with terror. "W-what are you?" he stammered, backing away.
Su Xuan’s gaze locked onto the man, his Nytheris Oculus glowing brighter. He could see the bandit’s soul trembling, its aura flickering like a dying flame. "I am justice," Su Xuan said coldly. "And you are nothing but a stain on this world."
The bandit turned to run, but he didn’t get far. Su Xuan’s blade pierced his back, the tip emerging from his chest. The man gasped, his body going limp as Su Xuan withdrew the weapon.
The leader, still clutching his bleeding stump, stared at Su Xuan in horror. "Y-you’re a monster…" he rasped.
Su Xuan stepped closer, his blade dripping with blood. "No," he said, his voice as cold as the night air. "I am what you made me."
With a swift, merciless strike, he ended the leader’s life. The man’s body crumpled to the ground, his soul already beginning to fade. Su Xuan’s Soul Sight allowed him to witness the man’s final moments—his fear, his regret, his desperation. But Su Xuan felt no satisfaction, only a cold, detached acknowledgment of their deaths. They had chosen their fate the moment they drew their weapons.
As he sheathed his blade, Su Xuan’s Nytheris Oculus flickered, the swirling shadows within his pupils calming. He could still see the faint traces of their souls, lingering like whispers in the air. For a moment, he considered using his Spirit Communication ability to hear their final words, but he dismissed the thought. Their voices would offer him nothing of value.
He continued on his way, leaving the bandits’ bodies behind. The forest grew denser, the trees pressing closer together, their branches forming a canopy that blocked out much of the moonlight. Yet Su Xuan moved with ease, his Nytheris Oculus guiding him through the darkness.
As he walked, his thoughts turned to the past. Memories of his family, of the life he had lost, flashed through his mind. He could still see their faces, hear their laughter, feel the warmth of their presence. But those memories were tainted by the horror of what had come after—the betrayal, the blood, the flames that had consumed everything he held dear. His fists clenched at his sides, his resolve hardening. He would not rest until he had uncovered the truth and made those responsible pay.
The encounter with the bandits was but a small reminder of the path he had chosen. A path of vengeance, of justice, and of unrelenting resolve. The road ahead would be fraught with danger and challenges, but Su Xuan was no ordinary cultivator. He was a man with a mission, a wielder of the Blade of Eternal Requiem, and a harbinger of vengeance. And he would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
What do you think?
