The Last Memories of Elyria

The Whispering Shadows

Kael spun around, his eyes scanning the chamber for any sign of movement. But he was alone. The whispers of the city's forgotten memories seemed to be coming from all around him, echoing off the walls of the chamber.

"Who's there?" Kael demanded again, his hand on the hilt of his sword.

But there was no response. The silence was oppressive, weighing heavy on Kael's shoulders. He knew he had to get out of there, fast.

With a growl, Kael turned and made for the entrance of the chamber. As he emerged into the bright sunlight, he felt a sense of relief wash over him. He took a deep breath, filling his lungs with the fresh air.

But as he looked around, Kael realized that he was not alone. The shadows themselves seemed to be moving, twisting and writhing like living things. The whispers of the city's forgotten memories grew louder, more insistent.

"What's going on?" Kael muttered to himself, his hand on the hilt of his sword.

Suddenly, a figure stepped out of the shadows. It was a woman, her face deathly pale, her eyes sunken and dark. She wore a flowing white gown, its hem stained with blood.

"Who are you?" Kael demanded, his sword flashing in the sunlight.

The woman did not respond. Instead, she reached out a hand, her fingers closing around Kael's wrist. Her grip was like ice, cold and unforgiving.

"You should not have come here," she whispered, her voice like a sigh on the wind.

Kael tried to pull away, but the woman's grip was unbreakable. He felt a chill run down his spine as he realized that he was in the presence of something truly evil.

"What do you want?" Kael spat, trying to keep his fear in check.

The woman's eyes seemed to bore into Kael's soul. "I want the book," she whispered. "The lost tome of Eldrid. You have it, don't you, Kael?"

Kael's heart raced as he realized that he was in grave danger. He had to think fast, or he would be the one who ended up dead.

"No," Kael lied, trying to keep his voice steady. "I don't know what you're talking about."

The woman's eyes narrowed, her grip on Kael's wrist tightening. "Don't lie to me," she hissed. "I can see it in your eyes. You have the book. And I will stop at nothing to get it."
