Chapter 29: Chapter 29 I Am a Xiao Nezha
Tao Ti hadn’t been at the company for long and had not learned many dances, but her favorite was spinning with the ribbon.
When she asked the production team for props, Tao Ti’s little face was serious and earnest, as if she was about to do something important.
This was to be her first formal performance in front of many people.
The music slowly began, and the red ribbon waved along with the melody, seeming simple but controlling the supple ribbon obediently was not an easy task.
Tao Ti remembered when she first started learning, she was tripped up by the ribbon several times.
Sometimes, when several people in the dance room were practicing ribbon dancing at the same time, if one person made a mistake, a group would be brought down together.
...
The soft ribbon in Tao Ti’s hands was like a stream of water, moving quickly or slowly with the music. Suddenly the rhythm became powerful and forceful, and with an increase of strength in her hands, she flicked it, making the ribbon form a straight line for a brief moment, like an arrow shot out.
The music softened, and Tao Ti spun in place, the ribbon gently wrapping around her. From a distance, it looked as though she was enveloped in a red cocoon.
Tao Ti tossed the ribbons with both hands, and she jumped out from between the two strands, her face bearing the purest of smiles, followed by a series of somersaults.
She was like a human-sized pinwheel, dazzling the audience with her spins. Then, as if performing magic, she produced two metal hoops from her hands.
A stomp with the heels of her sports shoes on the ground, and wheels appeared, emitting a red glow.
The ribbon thrown into the air now fell down, landing perfectly around her neck, one draped over it, and the other she whipped into a red long spear with force!
“Nezha! Little Nezha!” Cheng Lu clapped and cheered!
King of Film Xu hadn’t expected Tao Ti’s basics to be so solid; spinning, somersaults, magic tricks, roller skating—none of these were simple feats!
Skating on her “Wind Fire Wheels,” Tao Ti juggled a hoop in one hand and a flower spear in the other, while a red ribbon fluttered by her neck. She wore a radiant smile, Little Dimple deep, her large eyes curving, and her gaze as if it contained a galaxy.
“Awesome!” King of Film Xu gave her a thumbs-up.
The photographer cheered, “Little Taotie’s performance will definitely make the villagers clap and cheer!”
Tao Ti blushed with embarrassment from the praise.
Cheng Lu asked curiously, “This dance involves somersaults, roller skating, and spear playing. How long did you learn it?”
Tao Ti thought for a moment and replied, “Five days.”
Because her basics were so poor, she occasionally fell asleep from exhaustion during those five days. When she woke up after an hour, her teacher would watch her repeat the dance again and again, and she lost count of how many times she had done it.
All she knew was that she had to keep dancing while the other kids slept, and when they got up, she had to continue dancing with them.
“Five days? Then your talent must be really good!” Cheng Lu praised.
Blushing, Tao Ti shook her head, “I have the worst basics, so I can’t sleep. They would get it after practicing once or twice. They felt I was holding them back…”
From the bits and pieces Little Taotie mentioned, both Cheng Lu and King of Film Xu sensed something was amiss.
Cheng Lu pressed further, “How much did you sleep in those five days?”
Tao Ti counted on her fingers, “When I fell or was too tired, I would close my eyes. When I woke up and the teacher was standing in front of me, I’d immediately get up and dance once for her to see. But she was never satisfied and told me to keep practicing. And so, bit by bit, I think I fell asleep seven or eight times when I fell. Each time, it must have been over an hour…” @@novelbin@@
“Five days! Only seven or eight hours of sleep!” Cheng Lu hugged Tao Ti sympathetically, gently patting her back, and whispered, “Our Little Taotie has suffered, but things will get better, and you won’t have to work so hard anymore…”
Tao Ti cuddled into Cheng Lu’s neck, showing a sweet smile, “I am really happy to have learned this dance! I quite like dancing. I don’t think it’s tough.”
What do you think?
