After a single phone call by Cheng Guodong, Assistant Wang had prepared everything, from the incense and candles to the offerings for the heaven-worshipping ceremony.

A long table was set up on the open-air windowsill, with an incense burner placed atop it, and in front of the burner were various fruits and pastries.

May the Emperor of Heaven and Mother Earth witness our resolve! If we betray our righteousness and forget kindness, may heaven and humanity punish us together!”

Qin Xin paused for a moment, then Cheng Guodong nudged him and whispered, “Hurry up and repeat it!”

“Uniting in heart and strength to aid those in crisis—I can understand that. One should do good deeds in life. To serve our nation above and bring peace to the people below—if we have that ability, it’s only right. But this part about not seeking to be born on the same day but willing to die on the same day, that doesn’t seem quite right!”

Cheng Guodong said impatiently, “How is it not right?”

“Aren’t you quite a few years older than me?” Qin Xin took out his ID card. “I’m still young.”

Cheng Guodong glanced at him sideways, “I’m only one year older than you.”

Qin Xin: “…”

Qin Xin looked him up and down with a weird expression, coughed dryly, “Big brother, you sure look to be in quite the rush.”

“Can you talk like a normal person?” Cheng Guodong was having second thoughts about this younger brother.

Qin Xin held back his laughter, “I have friends who run beauty parlors in China, your skin is too rough, a little beauty treatment would make you look much younger…”

Cheng Guodong’s gaze grew icier, and Qin Xin put his hands together in a pleading gesture, “You’re only a year older than me, if we die together, then so be it. But look at our little sister, so small, would you really have the heart to let her die with us on the same day?”

Cheng Guodong was taken aback, he turned his head to look at Tao Ti, who blinked innocently, her eyes bewildered and naive, like a harmless Little Beast meeting your gaze with the purest and most pristine eyes.

Cheng Guodong touched his nose, feeling slightly guilty, almost tricking his little sister.

“That line is indeed not good, let’s not say it.”

Qin Xin, trying not to laugh, nodded and repeated, “Cheng Guodong, Qin Xin, Tao Ti, though of different surnames, once we become siblings, shall unite in heart and strength to aid those in crisis, and provide comfort in danger! The two men turned their gaze toward Tao Ti in unison, and Tao Ti blinked, asking, “Is it my turn now?”

Tao Ti tilted her head, recalling, and then chanted, “Cheng Guodong, Qin Xin, Tao Ti, though of different surnames, once we become siblings, shall unite in heart and strength to aid those in crisis, and provide comfort in danger! To serve our nation above, and bring peace to the people below! May the Emperor of Heaven and Mother Earth witness our resolve! If we betray our righteousness and forget kindness, may heaven and humanity punish us together!”

When she recited it without a single mistake, the two men relaxed and smiled.

The three of them lined up to insert their incense sticks into the incense burner, and as Tao Ti was too young to drink alcohol, they used tea instead of wine. They clinked their cups and drank it all down in one go.

Tao Ti sweetly called out, “Big brother! Second brother!”

Her cute little manner almost melted Qin Xin’s heart. He grinned like an idiot, “Ah, what a good little sister!”

Cheng Guodong covered his face with his palm, “You’re so ugly, don’t scare our little sister!”

Seeing them fooling around, Tao Ti joined in with a silly laugh.

Assistant Wang stood by, respectfully surprised: Did the boss really check this person’s background thoroughly before becoming sworn siblings with them?
