The Marshal’s Wife is Wild

Chapter 19 - 19 19 Efficacy

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Efficacy Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Efficacy Fei Wenyang had his eyes on the potion as soon as his silly younger brother started to unpack the delivery, noticing his sibling hammering away at the virtual keyboard with a look of sadness and anger, he stood up and took the medicine that was carelessly thrown on the table.

The purity of the potion was quite high, as most concocted potions had some impurities; it was rare to see one as crystalline and clear as pure water.

A trace of puzzlement flashed in Fei Wenyang’s eyes, and he uncorked the bottle, bringing it to his nose to take a sniff.

His expression was instantly shaken.

“Wenxing, wait!” Fei Wenyang said urgently.

Fei Wenxing, who was composing a short essay, heard his elder brother’s voice, stopped writing, and turned his head in confusion.

“Come to the lab with me!” Fei Wenyang stood up, grabbed Fei Wenxing, and headed straight to the lab.

Perhaps…

Being an SS-rank spiritual power user, the scent given off by a Low-grade Mind Stabilizing Potion couldn’t stir a single wave in his Spirit Sea.

“Ah? Eh?” Fei Wenxing was bewildered as Fei Wenyang dragged him away.

The laboratory had a potion-testing device previously used by the Legion. Although it wasn’t as advanced as the newer models, it was barely able to test if it was a Psychotropic Potion.

Fei Wenyang placed the opened potion into the machine and, after pressing the start button, the testing needle penetrated the potion to begin its analysis.

Fei Wenyang stared at the center of the screen with some anticipation.

Fei Wenxing also realized that there might be something special about the potion, and he too became excited, gazing intently at the screen, waiting for the result.

The machine operated for about ten minutes before the result was displayed on the top of the screen.

Properties: Psychotropic Potion

Purity: 100%

Contains spiritual power activating factors: 95%

Grade: –

Additional flavor: None

Assessed efficacy: –

“Why can’t the grade be measured?” Fei Wenyang asked curiously.

“I don’t know,” Fei Wenyang answered with a frown.

The test result was too terse; he wasn’t sure whether it was an issue with the potion or if the machine was simply too old.

However, staring at the screen and seeing the 95% of spiritual power activating factors, Fei Wenyang fell into deep thought.

If his memory served him right, the highest amount of spiritual power activating factors in a Low-grade Mind Stabilizing Potion was 50%, and the ones outside the Alchemist Association were even lower and quite pitiful.

Middle-grade was generally 60%-75%, High-grade 75%-85%, and only in Special Grade Potion would the content of spiritual power activating factors be above 90%, but only a few bottles of Special Grade Potion were released each year.

Containing spiritual power activating factors wasn’t the sole criterion for judging a Mind Stabilizing Potion; Fei Wenyang did not believe that a Special Grade Potion could be bought for 200,000.

The most likely scenario was that this potion was made using a new formula, which would account for its unique data.

“So can Dad use it or not?” Fei Wenxing, who usually only worried about drinking, did not understand this area of knowledge and could only watch Fei Wenyang eagerly for an answer.

Fei Wenyang was silent; he was not sure either.

Just then, Fei Wenyang’s light computer rang, a call from Grandfather Fei, who hung up after two brief and anxious sentences.

“Go to the estate, dad’s had an accident.”

Fei Wenyang took a couple of steps, then turned back to grab the potion from the machine.

“What? Wasn’t it stable before?” Fei Wenxing also realized the severity of the situation and followed Fei Wenyang’s pace with a small run.

The two sped off in a hover car.

On the way, they received a call from their mother, and it took Fei Wenxing a while to calm her down.

Fei Wenxing sat in the passenger seat, anxiously pulling at his flaxen hair, feeling like an ant on a hot pan, wishing he could teleport there immediately.

Fei Wenyang seemed much calmer, his lips slightly pursed, his face serene, as he focused on driving the hover car at top speed.

Donggang Garden is a mid-sized estate on the outskirts of Capital Star, where the old man of the Fei Family moved to retire after serving in the Legion.

They also sent Fei Ze there because the estate had a medical monitoring room used by Grandfather Fei.

Outside the sealed room, Fei Wenxing leaned on Fei Mother, and all four of them stared at the monitor above, next to which the diagnostic instrument flashed red lights, repeatedly warning of abnormal turmoil in the patient’s Spirit Sea.

In the surveillance video, a middle-aged man’s eyes were bloodshot, his feet surrounded by broken hefty iron chains; the chair he’d been secured to was smashed out of shape. The man had various degrees of injuries on his hands and feet, and from his trembling fists, it was evident he was trying desperately to endure something.

“The mental outburst has reached a critical value. As long as he gets through this, holding on for another year or two won’t be a problem. But it’s too soon since the last outburst, and he’s injured. Without the Lan Family’s potion, I fear…” Grandfather Fei spoke with sorrow, explaining the situation to Fei Wenxing and Fei Wenyang.

Everyone knew the consequences of not getting through a mental outburst; even if one survives, the brain would be damaged, and one could become uncontrollably violent at any time, no different from a wild beast. The end result would either be a direct execution or eternal imprisonment.

“Damn it! The Lan Family, all of them are despicable and shameless scoundrels! If anything happens to dad, I swear I won’t let that bunch of bastards off!” Fei Wenxing’s face was a mix of grief and hatred.

In Fei Wenyang’s hand, he clenched a Purple Potion, his veins bulging, his eyes filled with hatred too.

As if making a weighty decision, he began, “Mom, Grandpa, Wenxing bought a potion, I want to try it on dad.”

“Yes, yes, the potion!” Fei Wenxing’s eyes lit up too.

Fei Mother, excited, stepped forward, “Really? Did the Lan Family relent? Hurry, hurry and use it on your dad.”

Even though they resented the Lan Family, human life was paramount; they still had to admit that they needed the Lan Family’s potion.

Grandfather Fei also looked on.

Fei Wenyang hesitated before replying, “It’s not the Lan Family’s potion.”

Grandfather Fei couldn’t help but feel disappointed, his face furrowed with worry, and sighed, “Fei Ze’s condition has gotten very serious due to the lack of treatment for a long time. Even an Intermediate Mind Stabilizing Potion would be of little effect now. Only a High-grade Mind Stabilizing Potion from the Alchemist Association might help Fei Ze survive this mental outburst.”

During their conversation, a loud bang came from the control room; Fei Ze could no longer suppress his spirit power, which burst out wildly, violently damaging the sturdy walls.

Fortunately, the control room was made of highly durable mineral materials, designed specifically against violent destruction, and only a small impression was made.

As Fei Ze was about to lose his sanity, Fei Wenyang steeled himself, his eyes resolute, “No matter if it works or not, let’s try it first.”

There was no other choice left.

Fei Mother looked tearfully at Grandfather Fei, waiting for him to make a decision.

After a moment of hesitation, Grandfather Fei spoke with a grave expression, “Go ahead, administers it to your father and then quickly exit through the safety passage. Be careful.”

Fei Ze was an S-rank in constitution, and Fei Wenyang was SS-rank. Although an outburst would trigger stronger combat abilities, escaping was not a problem.

“Okay!” With a single word, Fei Wenyang went to the control room.
