Rui had been caught entirely off-guard because not only was Path Entanglement extremely powerful, it was also undetectable.

The SOUL System relied on the mind sense of the Martial Mind to detect and decrypt subconscious movement intent.

However, the Path Entangler was not even a conscious action, the spread of cells was a passively occurring mechanism as long as the monster made physical contact with his opponent. Thus, the powerful technique had not shown up on Rui's SOUL System.

Primordial Instinct had also failed to notice this because of how microscopically small and subtle the technique was. Even at that very moment, Rui was unable to identify where the hell his nervous system had been compromised.

It completely bypassed every form of check that Rui had, hijacking his nervous system and depriving his brain of any and all control over his body.

On top of that, this was clearly a feature of his Martial Body rather than technique. With extremely divergent Martial Bodies, it was much more difficult to anticipate what was possible.

Path Entanglement was a combination of principles of microbiology, biotechnology, and quantum mechanics.

A very odd combination of fields that not even Rui could have possibly predicted. Rui hadn't even imagined, even in his wildest dreams, that it was possible to take over someone's body in this fashion. Quantum entanglement was an extremely delicate phenomenon.
