The Mind-Read Heiress: From Impostor to Family Favorite

Chapter 21 - 21 21 Regretting It Now

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Regretting It Now? Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Regretting It Now? Study.

After Shen Jingxiu placed the small cake and documents he was holding on the table, he immediately turned around to close the door.

He had a small hobby that grew more private as he got older: he actually loved all kinds of small cakes.

He had liked them since he was a child, but ever since his grandfather frowned and said, “Why does a boy like sweet things so much? You should focus on your studies,” he hid this small passion.

Whenever his mother and his young sister ate small cakes, he could only silently watch and pretend to be uninterested.

Over time, everyone believed he didn’t like these treats, and they never offered to share with him.

Sweet desserts used to be Shen Zhirou’s favorite, but after she fell ill and left, even though Su Yang also liked sweets, such foods never appeared at home again.

After her return, Shen Zhirou seemed to have lost this liking; today was the first time in many years that he had seen dessert after a meal at home.

And now, the tempting dessert by his hand lay quietly, patiently waiting for him to taste.

He scooped a spoonful into his mouth; the sweet flavor that melted upon entry instantly conquered his taste buds.

While eating, he thought, luckily Wenyan didn’t know him well, otherwise, she definitely wouldn’t have given him a dessert.

However, the fact that she went out of her way to bring the small cake was quite unexpected.

But on second thought, maybe it wasn’t surprising. She had always praised him in her heart for being handsome; this must be a sign of her admiration for her elder brother.

Liking her elder brother and offering him food seemed perfectly natural.

Soon, Shen Jingxiu finished off the small cake. Thirsty after eating, he planned to go downstairs to pour a glass of water.

But as soon as he stepped out of the study, he saw Wenyan carrying another piece of small cake, knocking on Shen Jinghe’s door.

That one looked even more delicious…

She even took the cake inside, which meant she probably favored the second brother of the family more.

Was he really just an ice block, a refrigerator, too approached?

Shen Jinghe opened the door and raised an eyebrow at Wenyan.

“What’s up?”

With both hands, Wenyan offered the small cake to Shen Jinghe, her face full of smiles.

“You barely ate anything at dinner, looking like you’re sulking alone. You must not have eaten enough; I brought this to fill you up.”

“Hmph,” Shen Jinghe snorted with a cold laugh, “Regret it, do you?”

Wenyan blinked, “Regret what, what are you talking about?”

“Feigning ignorance, huh?”

“Aren’t you going to invite me in? Or should we stand here and talk?”

“Come in, close the door.”

They entered the room, one after the other.

After Wenyan closed the door, Shen Jinghe curved his lips and repeated.

“So, do you regret asking me to come back now?”

“Er… Second brother, shouldn’t you watch your words? I invited you back, how could you say I begged?”

[This guy is still smiling. It seems he is in a good mood.]

Shen Jinghe: Of course, he’s in a good mood; who wouldn’t be thrilled after shutting the old man up?

He glanced at Wenyan: “I don’t know why you insist on doing this, but don’t do it again next time.”

Wenyan’s eyes widened: “Don’t know why? Can’t you see? Isn’t it obvious that I did it to make mom happy? Didn’t you notice how elated she was to see you?”

“What about Shen Zhirou?” Shen Jinghe scoffed, “You usually can’t stand her, so why go out of your way to be nice? Has the sun started rising from the west?”

“The sun certainly hasn’t risen from the west, but for the sake of family harmony, I have to stop the infighting with her to make mom happy.”

“Is that so? Then you really are sacrificing the individual need for the greater good. I didn’t expect you to have such a quality.”

Wenyan: “…… After thinking it over, this cake really does taste good. I sincerely suggest you try it. As for me, I’ll take my leave!”

Shen Jinghe snorted coldly: “Make sure to close the door when you leave.”

“I know, I’m not a child!”

Wenyan left gently, feeling quite good about herself.

She had thought she was doing a good deed that turned bad, but turns out Shen Jinghe’s mood wasn’t affected at all; his sharp tongue was still top-notch.

As for Shen Yuan, she believed the beautiful Ms. Su Yang would surely be able to comfort him.

With this in mind, Wenyan couldn’t help but smile.

Just when she was about to go upstairs to her room, she unexpectedly saw Shen Zhirou at the stairway.

Wenyan took the initiative to greet her: “Heading down?”

Shen Zhirou smiled faintly: “Mhm, I’m going to have some juice. Do you want some?”

“Thanks, but no thanks. I’m planning to head back to my room.”

Having eaten a few pieces of cake earlier, Wenyan decided to go back to her room to find a pair of sports shoes and then go downstairs to run a few laps in the garden to burn off the energy.

But Shen Zhirou seemed to have no intention of letting her go.

“Did you just come out from second brother’s room? What were you guys talking about? You seem pretty happy.”

Wenyan fell silent for a moment.

It felt like things were moving too fast.

Their relationship, for the moment, seemed to still be at the stage where Wenyan was being friendly and Shen Zhirou was responding coldly.

But now Shen Zhirou was suddenly asking such detailed questions, and Wenyan felt a bit uncomfortable.

However, it wasn’t out of the question that Shen Zhirou also wanted family harmony, so Wenyan still answered her question cooperatively.

“Yes, we didn’t talk about much, just that I brought a piece of cake to second brother’s room. I noticed he didn’t eat much tonight.”

Shen Zhirou gave a faint smile: “Did second brother accept it?”

“He did. It was just a small piece of cake; he didn’t refuse to eat it.”

Shen Zhirou nodded: “Got it, I’ll go down first, then.”

“Alright, bye.”

After parting ways, Wenyan quickly returned to her own room upstairs.

She was originally looking for a set of sports clothes to change into, but after rummaging through her stuff, she could only find a hoodie.

Once she was dressed and ready, she wasn’t in a hurry. Wearing her Bluetooth earphones, she scrolled through videos while walking downstairs.

When she reached the second floor, one of the earphones accidentally fell out. She hurried a few steps to pick it up.

Just at that moment, she scrolled to a funny video. It was so hilarious that she couldn’t help laughing out loud the first time she watched it.

She even couldn’t resist and watched it a second time, standing in the same spot.

However, just as she laughed out loud again, she suddenly felt a gaze on her.

She paused the video and looked ahead, only to find Shen Zhirou walking toward her with an expressionless face.

Seeing such a blank expression, Wenyan suddenly didn’t feel like laughing anymore.

But she still greeted her: “Hey, Zhirou.”

Shen Zhirou took long strides and soon reached Wenyan’s side.

Her face showed little emotion: “Let’s talk, Wenyan.”
