Chapter 30 - 30 29 If You Leave Ill Look Down on You
Chapter 30: Chapter 29 If You Leave, I’ll Look Down on You Chapter 30: Chapter 29 If You Leave, I’ll Look Down on You Wenyan blinked, “Do you know where the chewing gum is?”
To be honest, she didn’t know either.
Because the excuse of chewing gum had been a spur-of-the-moment idea; in fact, on the way there, she hadn’t seen chewing gum at all.
It was quite possible that the item wasn’t even on this floor.
Shen Jingxiu, however, said, “Let’s try to look for it, since you don’t know where it is anyway.”
“……” Wenyan felt insulted, but she couldn’t refute it.
Following Shen Jingxiu’s lead, they first walked straight, then turned right, and after a left turn, they finally stopped in front of a shelf.
“Go ahead, I’m paying today. If there’s anything else you want, feel free to grab it all,” he said.
Wenyan: “Wow, Young Master Shen is picking up the tab, should I get greedy and buy the whole wall?”
Shen Jingxiu raised an eyebrow, “Even if you buy everything on this wall and go back to open a little store, that’s fine.”
Wenyan was pleasantly surprised, “Big brother, why are you suddenly being so nice to me?”
Shen Jingxiu felt a bit uncomfortable but still spoke up, “As a thank you for the little cake last night.”
“Hey, that, it wasn’t worth so much. Actually, just two bottles would be enough for me.”
Wenyan didn’t waste too much time there, her goal was clear. She grabbed two boxes of watermelon-flavored gum and left.
On the way to meet up with Su Yang and the others, Shen Jingxiu asked Wenyan, “By the way, who were you talking to just now? When I found you.”
“Oh, a passerby,” Wenyan blurted out without a second thought, “I asked him if he knew where the chewing gum was, and he said he didn’t know either.”
Shen Jingxiu ‘hmm’ed.
Knowing that Wenyan didn’t want to tell the truth, he didn’t ask any further.
They quickly found Su Yang and Shen Zhirou.
An hour later, they pushed three carts full of food and snacks to the parking lot.
After getting back home, the charcoal fire had already been started.
Su Yang handed the ingredients over to the kitchen to prepare and told his children to go rest.
But Wenyan wasn’t tired at all. Instead, she ran to the backyard and started skewering with Mrs. Zhang.
Mrs. Zhang loved to chat, and Wenyan was no slouch either. Despite the age gap, the two got along famously.
Their laughter soon drew Su Yang’s attention.
She couldn’t help but say to Shen Yuan beside her, “Youth is wonderful, isn’t it? Look at Yanyan, she doesn’t seem tired at all. I am about to collapse from walking around the supermarket for over an hour. That child has finally become as cheerful and laughter-loving as she used to be.”
Shen Yuan nodded and then said, “Speaking of young people, look at the others who went straight to their rooms to hide.”
“That’s not their fault; I told them to go rest. Besides, when do they ever do kitchen chores? But I see Wenyan skewering potatoes and she seems to be really enjoying it. I remember when we used to date, you were in charge of marinating and I was in charge of skewering. How about we join in too? Show me your skills again, what do you say?”
They looked at each other and smiled, and Shen Yuan said, “As you command, my dear wife.”
Shen Yuan and Su Yang quickly joined in the work as well.
Wenyan had a sweet mouth. Continuous compliments were aimed at the couple, especially Su Yang, who couldn’t stop smiling.
The garden was filled with laughter and jovial talk, quickly attracting others.
Shen Jingxiu, who had just finished dealing with a few emails, walked to the window and opened it to look at the people downstairs, especially Wenyan, buzzing around like a little bee. He found himself standing there for several minutes.
In another room, Shen Jinghe quickly glanced out the window after his game character died and he took off his headphones.
This Wenyan, finding so much joy in skewering—laughing like a blooming flower. I wonder if they bought any seafood and whether they got the black abalone I like.
On the third floor.
Shen Zhirou slammed the window shut. That bitch, making such a fuss over a barbecue. The house isn’t short of servants; why would she need to offer help with the chores?
Dragging their parents into this tiring ordeal was bad enough, but if she didn’t go down now, she’d come off as lazy—disgusting.
She had clearly warned her to stay away, yet she deliberately cozied up to every single person in this family. It was like offering a toast only to be forced to drink a penalty instead.
Full of resentment, Shen Zhirou went downstairs.
Su Yang was the first to see her: “Zhirou, why did you come down too? Weren’t you told to rest?”
Shen Zhirou smiled even more sweetly: “I’m not tired. It’s a family barbecue; it’s meaningful only if you do it yourself. I’ll cut the vegetables.”
Wenyan, who had already switched to cutting vegetables, said: “Zhirou, maybe you should just wash the vegetables; it’s easier.”
Shen Zhirou’s smile grew even more gentle: “It’s okay, I’m better at cutting vegetables.”
Su Yang looked towards Shen Yuan, wondering why Zhirou had to start competing with Yanyan now that Yanyan had stopped picking fights with her.
Wenyan: “Alright then, my hand’s starting to hurt from all the chopping anyway. There aren’t any spare knives here, so you take this one. I’ll go wash the vegetables.”
“……” Shen Zhirou’s smile was no longer quite as gentle.
Her mind wasn’t really on cutting vegetables at all, and it wasn’t long before she cut her finger, slicing off nearly half of her left index fingernail.
Aunt Zhang hurried to bring over the first aid kit, and Su Yang immediately helped Shen Zhirou disinfect and apply a band-aid.
“Zhirou, next time don’t do things you’re not good at. That way, you can avoid risks. Thankfully, it’s just the fingernail.”
As for Wenyan, she could only gloat in her heart, thinking: Oh snap, look at that cursed competitive spirit—instant karma.
It wasn’t long before Shen Jingxiu, who had finished his work, came downstairs.
When it was time to officially start grilling, Su Yang went to call Shen Jinghe down.
Everyone turned out to have a knack for barbecuing, and none of the food wound up burnt.
The happiest eater was Wenyan.
Watching her devour one kebab after another, Shen Jinghe scoffed from the side: “With an appetite like that, you can forget about breaking into show business. Quit dreaming right now.”
Wenyan took her time finishing the food in her mouth, wiped her lips, then retorted.
“I haven’t entered show business yet, so I’m taking the chance to eat well. But how can you say that, big brother? You ate the most here, aside from me. As a top celebrity, you should be watching your diet more than anyone.”
“Hmph, what do you know? If I could always eat like this, would I need to gorge myself like today?”
“Then don’t talk about me.”
Su Yang chuckled at their bickering: “Here we go, arguing now.”
Shen Jinghe tried to salvage his dignity: “The barbecue just tastes really good today, that’s all.”
Su Yang’s smile deepened: “The marinade for this barbecue is a secret recipe from your dad.”
Actually, Su Yang mentioned this hoping to slowly mend the relationship between father and son.
But Shen Jinghe could be as stubborn as a mule.
At the mention of his father, Shen Jinghe immediately frowned: “I’m full.”
“Here, have some abalone.” Just as his words fell, Wenyan picked up a piece of abalone with tongs and offered it to him, “Don’t say you don’t like it, big brother. I noticed that you really enjoy eating this.”
[Little rascal! If you walk away, I’ll surely lose respect for you.]
Shen Jinghe glared at Wenyan, the irritation evident in his gaze.
Heh, he really wasn’t going to leave, not wanting to be despised by her—it was too humiliating.
Seeing that Shen Jinghe thankfully hadn’t done anything embarrassing, Wenyan finally withdrew her gaze.
When she looked down, she found an extra skewer of grilled potatoes on her plate.
And sitting beside her was none other than Shen Jingxiu.
What do you think?
