The Monster King's Legacy

Chapter 113: Aftermath

As dawn approached the next morning, away from the goblin settlement, the once-great demon capital lay in complete silence and ruin. Fires still smoldered in the distance, casting an eerie glow over the devastated land. The remnants of the demon race were now nothing more than corpses littering the ground.

The warriors under the Godking's command stood amidst the carnage, their expressions stale as they surveyed the remnants of their conquest. The last of the resistance had been crushed before the break of dawn, ensuring that no more demons remained in the capital.

At the heart of the camp of the elite forces of the alliance, the Godking stood in silence, appearing to be in deep thoughts as he stared into the distance.

Just then, Haos returned, lowering his head in respect. "I have completed my task, my Lord," he reported.

The Godking glanced at him. "What did you find?"

Haos wasted no time in relaying the details of his journey. "The human, Lance, has indeed grown stronger. His command over his forces is firm, and the goblin camp remains stable, having absorbed the beastkin too. I also encountered the dragon, and it was aiding them. Judging from its size, it is a well matured dragon, perhaps a few hundred years old; though it seems to have no ill will toward him or the goblins. I saw no immediate threat."

The Godking closed his eyes briefly, processing the information. "Of course you saw no threat. A dragon won't just leave its sacred land to venture out, all to kill some goblins." He said.

'Is it possible that the dragon had something else in mind relating to the human… Lance, was it?' The Godking thought to himself.

Haos hesitated for a moment, then continued, "I may have also invited Lance to seek me out should he wish to grow stronger."

At that, the Godking let out a sigh. He was not one to openly reprimand his subordinates when no needed, but Haos knew he had made an error. 'Perhaps, this was not what the Godking wanted?' He thought to himself.

Either way, the Godking did not dwell on it. The matter was already set in motion. "There is no changing it now," he finally said, dismissing the concern with a wave of his hand. "If there is nothing more here, we should get going."

"What about those sent to the demon capital, Lord." Haos said, looking towards the direction.

"They're done, and when they return, they too may leave." The Godking said, turning away from the direction of the capital where he had been staring at for a while.

With nothing left to do in the demon lands, the Godking turned away. A dark portal swirled open before him, and without hesitation, he stepped through it, vanishing into the void.

Far away, in the heart of the elven lands, a different battle had already ended.

Ithil stood at the centre of the elven capital, his gaze sweeping over the horizons where demon corpses lay scattered around the city's perimeter and farther off. The battle had been one-sided at best. He had personally annihilated every demon that dared approach. Their bodies were left where they fell, to be dealt with by his subordinates.

He let out a breath, his aura slowly settling as he withdrew his power and presence from all around the forests. Even after such an overwhelming display, he appeared to have barely exerted himself. It was proof of just how much power he now wielded, how much stronger he had become.

Turning back, Ithil saw Melina standing respectfully, awaiting orders.

"Dispose of the bodies," Ithil commanded. "We do not need their taint lingering in our land."

"As you command, my lord." She responded, moving swiftly to carry out his orders.

In the days that followed, the alliance of the three major races, the elves, dwarves, and humans; moved as one.

Warriors, mages, and scouts were gathered in unprecedented numbers, preparing for the final expedition to exterminate the remaining demons. Discover stories with My Virtual Library Empire

The remnants of the demon race had scattered across various lands, hiding in different corners of the lands. Regardless of their efforts to hide and duck the smoke, there would be no true safe haven for 'them'.

While the rest of the world carried on following the great war against the demons, the Goblin territory and its people led by Lance did the same. News of Garok falling in battle reached the Orcs not long after, and it was then Lance understood what Haos had said. Even then, he hadn't absorbed them into the goblin tribe. Though they mourned their chief and ruler, he also had many sons to take over his position as chief, so there was no issue there.

That aside, majority of the orcs had returned to their lands, leaving the goblin settlement behind, while the beastkin remained, those that had been quarantined finally cleared to settle in with the rest of the population.

Naturally, development and construction of houses and such infrastructure followed, there was little time to rest or laze about for all.

Aelyndra, the dragon, even occasionally descended to assist, using her immense strength to lift heavy trees or boulders that would take more than a dozen workers to replicate half of her strength and efficiency.

For one, it was rather surprising to see her help around, especially considering her intimidating size. She was even taller than most of these trees. "You're surprisingly gentle for a dragon," Kaeli remarked with a smirk as Aelyndra carefully placed a massive boulder into position.

"And you're surprisingly bold for a goblin," Aelyndra replied, her mental voice tinged with amusement, though it was drowned by the usual thunderous tone it carried. "But I'll take that as a compliment."

Kaeli didn't need to be told, he vowed to make as little direct contact with the dragon as possible.

The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight broke over the horizon, the coalition forces resumed and continued their work. Apart from the houses and other structures, fields were being cultivated, roads were laid, and somehow, the image of a properly structured settlement, perhaps a town or even a city, began to take shape.

Lance stood atop a nearby hill where he could oversee the entire settlement, Aelyndra beside him, both watching the progress with a mixture of pride and hope.

"We did it," he said softly.

"You did it," Aelyndra corrected. "You united them, and now, they'll thrive because of it."

Lance shook his head. "No. We all did this. Together… I didn't mean you and I." Lance corrected, a sly expression on his face. Somehow, he had developed the balls to make such a joke with the dragon despite its intimidating size, strength and voice. Perhaps, he just couldn't resist the urge to do so when the opportunity presented itself.

Brushing off his remarks, Aelyndra made sure of one thing, "we're having a feast tonight, right?"

"No, but your portions will be readied."
