Chapter 418: Chapter 349, Kill Someone (First update, revised, the second update got deleted.)
“I hear that recently there has been a number of ships docking at the harbor, and the number of people at the tavern has been slowly increasing too,” Millicent said, pouring him a glass of water and standing respectfully at one side.
Then she stood properly to one side.
“Hmm, I can tell you’re running it quite well,” Wu Heng praised.
You could tell from just walking in.
Although the tavern’s business couldn’t compare with those on the main street, it seemed to be doing pretty well.
From early in the morning, the bartenders were cleaning and changing kegs.
Millicent’s reserved expression showed a hint of pleasure as she whispered, “Thank you, sir.”
Wu Heng gestured for her to not stand and wait until she sat down beside the bed before continuing, “Are there many people staying at the inn?”
“Some, but not many.”
Wu Heng nodded, “Have you noticed anyone suspicious?”
Millicent frowned and thought for a moment, then said, “The tavern has just opened for business, and I haven’t noticed anyone suspicious.”
Previously, ‘Millicent’ had been asked to keep an eye out for the wanted notices posted by the guild.
There were general descriptions of appearances.
Wu Heng continued, “I need you to help me keep an eye out for a few people. If you see anyone approaching, notify me.”
Millicent nodded, “Yes, sir!”
“There are three individuals: the first one is close in height and has black or dark hair, the second one is almost three meters tall and carries a long-hafted Warhammer; the third one is of average height and wields Shuangdao,” Wu Heng described again, following the description given by the corpses.
After listening carefully, Millicent looked at him with a bit of confusion.
If she remembered correctly.
The previous two personal Attendants of the Deputy Steward had these exact features.
And with the first one having dark hair and a similar height, it sounded like he was investigating his own people.
But she had no intention of questioning the tasks assigned to her.
She agreed immediately, “Understood, sir. I’ll pay close attention.”
“They will certainly employ disguises, and I’m not quite clear on what they originally look like. If you find anyone who is close or similar in physique, alert me right away.”
“Yes!”
Wu Heng was quite satisfied with Millicent’s attitude.
Then he took out a tablet and pulled up a picture of ‘Inspector Special Envoy’ Kalemah, “And there’s another person who looks like this.”
The photo was taken by him at the entrance while he was investigating the guild’s documents.
Although it was only a profile, the facial features were quite distinct.
And considering he always wore a Mage Robe, he was easy to identify.
Millicent took the tablet and looked at the person’s face on it.
Wu Heng added, “He’s from the guild, and I suspect he is involved in a case. After you see him, just keep an eye on whom he contacts and recount it to me afterward.”
Millicent nodded earnestly, “I’ve got it, sir.”
“Hmm, do your best,” Wu Heng went on, “Select three private rooms and two guest rooms. I’ll arrange some setups. If any suspects come, put them in those rooms and listen to their conversations.”
Millicent seemed a bit puzzled and carefully asked, “Sir, do you mean to choose a few empty rooms?”
“Yes, you pick them out first, and then I’ll explain later.”
Millicent got up, “Let me show you.”
Wu Heng readjusted his Illusion Veil and followed her out of the room, heading to the private rooms next door.
The private room had a round table, a side cabinet, and some potted plants as ornaments.
Wu Heng took out an eavesdropping device he had scavenged from an electronics shop and installed it against the back of the side cabinet.
In this world, such a device wasn’t feared to be discovered; even if it was found, no one would think it was an eavesdropping device.
Then the two went to the other private rooms and guest rooms.
After all the devices were in place, they returned to the previous room.
Wu Heng took out a new tablet, connected it to several eavesdropping devices, demonstrated how to operate it, and said, “This is a type of eavesdropping device. In the future, when you have suspicious individuals, place them in those particular private rooms and use this to listen in on what they say.”
Once connected, a faint electrical sound could be heard from the tablet.
Drawing nearer, one could faintly hear footsteps, as well as the sounds of bartenders opening doors, moving tables and chairs, and cleaning.
“That fat woman who came earlier, what relation is she to the boss? She’s so fat.”
The voice came clearly from the tablet.
Millicent was astonished that the device could actually pick up the voices from the remote private rooms but also looked at the man beside her cautiously.
She explained in a low voice, “They always talk nonsense like this; please don’t blame them.”
Wu Heng didn’t say much; it was just a disguise, after all.
And the tablet continued to convey the conversation of the two men.
“Look at her, the boss is truly a beauty. It must be so comfortable to sleep with her in one’s arms.”
“Many of the tavern’s visitors come just for the boss.”
“Yeah, I’m afraid one day someone, in a drunken fit, will make a scene right here in the tavern.”
Millicent’s face began to turn red.
With wary eyes, she carefully glanced at the man beside her and whispered an explanation, “This is common in the tavern. Some guests talk nonsense after drinking, but thankfully, we’ve never had any trouble here.”
Wu Heng nodded and went on to explain various functions and how to access certain photos.
Millicent learned quickly.
She mastered how to use the device in no time.
“You can use this for now. If it stops working, come find me.”@@novelbin@@
