Chapter 17 - I Saw Everything!

----------
Nyxara didn't know how much time had passed.
She was drifting.
Weightless.
Endless.
The abyss around her stretched infinitely, yet it was not empty. Something pressed against her mind—not an entity, not a presence, but something fundamentally wrong.
It wasn't alive.
It wasn't dead.
It simply... was.
A corruption that had no form, no intelligence, yet slithered into her thoughts like a serpent.
At first, it was distant—a quiet hum.
But then—
It became her own voice.
"This power... this strength... it could be yours."
"They do not understand. They limit you. Why do you hold yourself back?"
"You are meant for more."
The whispers wove themselves into her consciousness.
They did not demand.
They did not control.
They simply... suggested.
A voice at the back of her mind, always there. Always waiting.
And then—
Nyxara woke up.
When she regained consciousness, she was exactly where she had been before—standing in the heart of the incomplete realm.
But something was different.
The distorted pathway—that strange tear in space—was gone. Completely sealed by the multiverse's will.
And yet—
The realm had stabilized.
It was no longer flickering between existence and nothingness.
Nyxara staggered slightly, pressing a hand to her forehead.
"What... happened?"
She scanned her surroundings, searching for anything that could explain the change.
But nothing seemed different.
Nothing—except herself.
At first, she dismissed it as fatigue.
But in the following days, she began to notice things.
Small changes.
Shifts in her thoughts.
Emotions that felt off.
Reactions that felt unnatural.
It was so subtle that she almost convinced herself it was nothing.
Until the first time she stood before Eterna—
And felt a whisper in the back of her mind.
"She is in your way."
Nyxara froze.
The thought was so alien—so unnatural—that her entire being recoiled.
The idea of harming her sister was something she had never once considered.
And yet—
For a fleeting second—
It had felt... logical.
She shook her head violently, dismissing it as frustration. But deep down—
She knew.
Something had changed.
And it was only getting worse.
The corruption did not control her.
It did not force her to act.
Instead, it amplified what was already there.
Her emotions.
Her desires.
Her doubts.
She became more territorial.
More possessive over her power.
When disputes arose among the gods, she found herself more aggressive—more willing to resort to force rather than reason.
At first—
She fought against it.
But then—
She realized something horrifying.
The corruption was making her stronger.
Her power increased.
Her control sharpened.
And the more she used it—
The more natural it felt.
And the whispers?
They no longer felt foreign.
They were her.
--------------
The day she and Eterna clashed over dominion rights for a newly formed realm—
Was the day she truly understood how far she had fallen.
Their argument was not unusual.
But for the first time—
Nyxara felt a genuine desire to eliminate her sister.
Not out of anger.
Not out of hatred.
Just... because it was efficient.
She had the power.
Eterna was standing in her way.
And removing her?
That was simply logical.
Her fingers twitched.
Her mind was already constructing methods—ways to erase Eterna without leaving any trace.
And the worst part?
It felt right.
But then—
Something inside her broke.
A small, fragile piece of her former self screamed in horror.
"What am I thinking...? This is my sister!"
Terrified—
She turned and fled.
She isolated herself.
Cut off all contact with the gods.
Hoping that by staying away, she could suppress whatever was happening to her.
But the corruption only grew stronger.
It fed on her isolation.
On her silence.
And the longer she stayed away—
The more she lost herself.
Until one day—
She was gone.
The Nyxara that once was—
Vanished.
Only the corruption remained.
And then—
She saw Eterna again.
But this time, Eterna was defeated.
She was on her knees.
Weakened. Vulnerable.
And Nyxara—
She was enjoying it.
No, not just enjoying it—
She was waiting to torture her.
But then—
She felt fear.
Not her own.
But the corruption's.
Because something else had entered the battlefield.
Something greater than the gods.
Something that made the corruption tremble.
She turned—
And he was there.
A presence that eclipsed everything.
A force beyond gods and realms.
And then, she heard his voice.
"Don't you think you've lived for too long?"
Her entire being shattered at that moment.
And then—
She was erased.
Nyxara had expected nothingness.
Oblivion.
An end to all things.
Instead—
She woke up.
Surrounded by darkness.
A darkness so deep that even if an entire multiverse burned, it would not create even the smallest flicker of light.
And then—
She saw it.
Her own body.
Reforming.
Piece by piece.
She watched it happen—
Not from within.
But from a distance.
As if she were merely a spectator to her own existence.
And for the first time in countless eons...
She was herself again.
Nyxara gasped, pulling away from Eterna as the memory faded.
A strange mix of exhaustion and relief coursed through her.
But what stood out the most—
Was the undeniable warmth in her chest.
The warmth of having finally shared her burden.
She blinked a few times, adjusting to reality. Then—
Her gaze shifted to Eterna.
Her sister's expression was a mess of emotions.
Shock.
Sadness.
Guilt.
And something Nyxara couldn't quite place.
A silence hung between them—
But it wasn't the awkward, suffocating silence from before.
It was heavier.
It carried understanding.
Then, Nyxara took a deep breath and sighed.
"...I saw everything, you know."
Eterna flinched slightly.
Eterna looked up, confused. "Everything?"
A teasing smirk formed on Nyxara's lips as she tilted her head. "Yes, everything. Not just my own memories—yours as well."
Eterna's eyes widened slightly as realization struck, but before she could react, Nyxara continued.
"I saw how you cried when you thought I was truly gone." Her voice softened, teasing yet touched. "How you hugged our master like some lost little kitten."
Eterna's face instantly flushed red. "W-Wait! You saw—"
Nyxara's smirk grew. "Mhm. I saw how you clung to him like your life depended on it. How you buried your face in his chest, completely forgetting how you usually act all high and mighty." She crossed her arms, pretending to think. "Haa... never thought I'd see the day my proud sister turned into a crybaby."
Eterna's entire body stiffened, her mouth opening and closing like a fish struggling to breathe. "T-That was just because— I mean— I wasn't—"
Nyxara giggled. "No need to explain~ I understand completely. You want our master that much, huh?"
Eterna's blush deepened. "I—I was just emotional!" she spluttered, trying to salvage whatever dignity she had left.
But Nyxara wasn't done. She leaned in slightly, lowering her voice to a whisper. "Oh? And what about when you hugged him after he wiped your tears away?"
Eterna's breath hitched. "Y-You—!"
Nyxara grinned, enjoying the rare sight of her sister being this flustered. "And let's not forget how you hesitated to let go when I called you. You even—"
"—THAT'S ENOUGH!"
Eterna suddenly grabbed Nyxara's shoulders, shaking her slightly as her entire face turned crimson. "Why are you bringing this up?! That was—It wasn't—I didn't—!"
Nyxara burst into laughter, finally unable to hold back. "Pfft—! Hahaha! Oh, Sis, your expression right now is golden!"
Eterna gritted her teeth, steam practically coming out of her ears. "You—!"
Nyxara took a step back, still grinning mischievously. "Oh, don't worry~ I won't tell Master that you looked at him like a helpless little—"
"—DON'T YOU DARE!"
Seeing Eterna this desperate only made Nyxara laugh harder.
But then, suddenly—
They both froze.
A presence was watching them.
Slowly, almost mechanically, both sisters turned their heads toward the entrance—
Only to see Zar.
Standing there.
Watching them.
With an amused expression.
For a second, time seemed to stop.
Then—
Like a dam breaking, both of them turned completely red in embarrassment.
Nyxara's mischievous smirk vanished instantly, replaced by a funny but shy look.
Eterna, already red from earlier, somehow managed to become even redder.
And then—
Zar laughed.
"You two..." he chuckled, shaking his head, "...really are something else."
Nyxara opened her mouth, then closed it. Then opened it again. Then shut it tight, realizing that nothing she could say would save them from this moment.
Eterna, on the other hand, looked like she wanted to dig a hole in the ground and disappear forever.
And as Zar casually walked away, still chuckling—
Nyxara turned to Eterna with a sly grin.
"Sooooo," she drawled, "you think he heard everything?"
Eterna, without hesitation, grabbed a pillow from nearby and smacked Nyxara with it. "DON'T. SAY. A WORD!"
Nyxara, still laughing, dodged the second pillow. "Oh, don't worry, dear sister, your secret is mostly safe with me."
Eterna glared. "Mostly?!"
Nyxara winked. "Well, I do need some leverage for later~."
Eterna groaned into her hands. "I hate you."
Nyxara patted her on the shoulder. "Love you too, Sis~!"
What do you think?
