Chapter 89: Chapter 90: Who’s Sure About Whom
Lin Qian and the others followed Nan Xin, continuously drawing nearer to the Dead Tree Forest.
Upon entering the Dead Tree Forest, as expected, the originally dense fog that filled the sky had dissipated, leaving the forest fully exposed under the bright moonlight.
Due to Nan Xin’s presence, a multitude of undead creatures moved around them. Although they occasionally gazed over with sockets flickering with dim green flames, they remained well-behaved and motionless.@@novelbin@@
After some time, Lin Qian estimated they were nearing the center of the Dead Tree Forest. At that moment, Nan Xin, who was leading the way, stopped in his tracks, and the marching army of undead creatures behind them also halted.
Nan Xin stretched out his hand in silence, seemingly muttering something. The soil beneath the dead trees began to churn and heave as if activated on its own.
As the dead trees shifted, the earth rolled aside, revealing a vast and deep hole. From this dark opening, Lin Qian couldn’t make out what was below.
Lin Qian approached the hole, gathering Thunder Soul Power that flickered with lightning, forming it into a sphere hovering above his palm. Then, he pushed his hand forward, and as the Thunder Soul Power Ball entered the hole, it expanded and grew.
The sparkling Soul Light of the Thunder Soul Power condensed into a sphere, thoroughly illuminating the inside of the hole.
Beneath the entrance was a slope made entirely of soil, with no indication of where it might lead.
“The treasure vault of the Dangyuan Sect lies below. Let’s go,” Nan Xin said, a sinister smile forming on his pale face, looking exceedingly creepy.
Lin Qian nodded silently and then spoke, “Before we descend, I have something to take care of.”
“Hmm?” Nan Xin looked at Lin Qian, puzzled about what else he could be referring to.
Lin Qian turned around and looked at Lei Qian and the others with a disdainful expression, “You lot can get lost. You have no right to lay hands on the treasure vault of this ancient sect.”
Upon hearing Lin Qian’s words, Ye Xin’s eyes flickered with an unusual light, her expression quickly turning to surprise as she looked at him.
Lei Qian and the other four showed ugly expressions as well, clearly surprised by Lin Qian’s statement.
“What do you mean by this, Lin Qian?” Lei Qian spoke first, angrily questioning Lin Qian.
Ding Zhirong and Zhao Haiming were prepared to speak up but seeing Lei Qian take the lead, they kept quiet. Beside them, Li Letian and Wang Lanxin were also clasping hands tightly, remaining silent.
“Out of respect for our common sect, I’m letting you retreat to those dilapidated ruins to scavenge some leftovers. As for this treasure, forget about it,” Lin Qian said impatiently, waving his hand dismissively at Lei Qian and the others.
“You…” Lei Qian pointed at Lin Qian, struggling for words for a moment before finally throwing his hands up in frustration. “Lin Qian, I was wrong about you.”
After speaking, Lei Qian turned around and left the way they had come, and Nan Xin, controlling the undead army, made no move to stop them.
Followed by Ding Zhirong and the other three, they all turned away to leave, each giving Lin Qian a contemptuous glance before they departed.
Watching this unfold, Nan Xin sneered quietly to himself, “I really didn’t expect this young man to be so greedy and ruthless.”
Then, Nan Xin approached Lin Qian, “How about it, do you need me to do you a little favor and take care of them…”
“It’s not necessary. They’re fellow sect members, after all. Let them scurry away,” Lin Qian said, watching Lei Qian and the others move out of the undead army’s range before turning toward the hole, “Lead the way ahead.”
Nan Xin nodded with a smile and led the way. Lin Qian firmly took Ye Xin’s hand and followed him down toward the hole. He looked back momentarily and saw the undead army following behind.
As they walked down the slope inside the hole, Lin Qian’s body gathered Thunder Soul Power, shining with Soul Light, illuminating their surroundings.
At this point, Lei Qian and the others had broken into a furious dash after escaping from the horde of walking corpses, rushing to the site of the ruins where they finally halted.
“It seems that this matter is not so simple; there must be something amiss,” Lei Qian said with a grave tone while standing on the desolate brick road, looking back in the direction from which they came.
Ding Zhirong and the others, hearing Lei Qian’s words, also nodded in agreement.
Lin Qian’s behavior may have seemed normal to Nan Xin, but to Lei Qian and his group, it was utterly abnormal.
They knew Lin Qian very well; he was not the type of person consumed by greed.
Given that he had shared the miraculous Phoenix Nirvana Potion with them, it was clear what kind of person he was.
Moreover, Nan Xin’s appearance was truly peculiar. Lin Qian must have noticed something wrong and thus used this method to help them escape.
“Not good, look ahead!” Just then, Wang Lanxin suddenly screamed, pointing towards the entrance to the ruins.
The others, following her pointed direction, wore faces filled with horror.
Because they could clearly see many walking corpses appearing at the entrance of the ruins and charging towards them.
“Damn, this is obviously Nan Xin’s doing; there was definitely a problem,” Lei Qian cursed under his breath as he witnessed at least two thousand walking corpses ahead and immediately donned his Elemental Weapon Armament, ready for battle.
“Kill!”
At that moment, a battle cry suddenly rose from behind them. Turning around, they were startled to see a general clad in armor, leading a contingent of soldiers in a charge.
This general was Zhao Long, and his heavy-armored soldiers held long spears upright, their Soul Power surging forward as they clashed with the marching corpses.
Zhao Long’s heavy-armored troops collided fiercely with the undead.
In the eyes of Lei Qian and his group, Zhao Long’s troops were like a sharp lance, ruthlessly piercing into the ranks of the walking dead, causing chaos and upheaval among them.
“This…” Li Letian and Wang Lanxin were completely astonished by the scene.
Ding Zhirong and Zhao Haiming approached Lei Qian and asked, “Could it be that these are Lin Qian’s men?”
Lei Qian, who had once seen large forces, silently nodded: “Yes, they’re all the Boss’s men.”
After staring ahead in shock for a while, Lei Qian had a realization: “I understand now why the Boss wanted us to return to these ruins; it was because he had these people here.”
When Lin Qian suddenly urged them to leave earlier, his intention wasn’t for them to leave the Dead Tree Forest but to head towards the ruins; he probably knew Zhao Long and his men were here all along.
“Let’s join in!” Ding Zhirong completed his Elemental Weapon Armament, looking ahead.
Lei Qian nodded, his body enveloped in purple lightning, leading the charge.
Meanwhile, Lin Qian was walking on a hillock, randomly waving his hand through the air, leaving Ye Xin beside him completely baffled: “Little Qian, what’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing, just stretching,” Lin Qian replied with a smile, continuing to look forward.
In his eyes, there was a tactical map invisible to others. On it, Lin Qian already knew that Lei Qian and Zhao Long had joined forces.
Watching Nan Xin’s retreating figure ahead, Lin Qian narrowed his eyes slightly: “I want to see who has the upper hand in the end.”
