Chapter 362: 192 The Gambling Bet (Second Update)
Liu Yisheng: “What do you want to bet on?”
Gu Jiao: “I bet that one day, I will call you Premier Liu.”
“Premier? Me?” Liu Yisheng laughed at the suggestion. He lived like a dog, trampled upon by others. His survival was already a lucky break.
His smile faded, “And Zhan Country doesn’t have a premier.”
Gu Jiao gazed at him, resting her cheek on her hand.
She didn’t mind if he didn’t believe it.
Not long after Liu Yisheng left, the Yao Family arrived at the medical hall.
The old Madam Gu had sent her away to interrogate Lord Gu more effectively yesterday, and she only heard about Gu Chenglin’s situation this morning during her morning greetings to the old Madam.
Madam Ling adored her “youngest son” the most. Who would have thought she would stab Gu Chenglin in his heart?
The news made old Madam Gu faint.
Members of the Yao family felt it was shocking, but not entirely unexpected.
Madam Ling never truly treated Gu Chenglin and his brothers as her own sons, otherwise she wouldn’t have used Gu Chenglin against the Yao Family. But the extent of her madness took the Yao family by surprise.
“I heard that Madam Ling was forced to drink Sterility Medicine by both the old Madam Gu and Lord Gu on her wedding night. She must be harboring a lot of hatred inside her!” On the carriage ride here, the maid shared the news with the Yao family.
The Yao family wasn’t sure if the news was true or not, but it was an established fact that Madam Ling had not gotten pregnant since she began living in the mansion.
However, the Yao family didn’t come to see Gu Chenglin, but Gu Jiao.
They had heard that Gu Chenglin’s accident had occurred at midnight, and Gu Changqing carried him to find a doctor. They only returned when dawn broke.
Gu Jiao was at the medical hall of the Divine Hands, and it was no secret that the doctor who worked tirelessly to rescue Gu Chenglin was her.
The Yao family brought Gu Jiao some chicken soup.
They had removed the layer of fat on top, so the broth was rich but not greasy and was delicious with a delicate balance of salty and sweet.
Gu Jiao took a few sips in her quarters. It tasted good.
“Madam, please have some too,” she said to the Yao family.
“I have already eaten.” The Yao matriarch placed the bowl she had been served in front of Gu Jiao and spoke affectionately, “You eat.”
After working all night and hardly sleeping in the morning, then tending to Liu Yisheng’s medical treatment, Gu Jiao realized that she hadn’t eaten much.
Her stomach growled with hunger.
Seeing her eat with gusto, the Yao family felt both gratified and sympathetic.
The Yao matriarch did not ask why Gu Jiao saved Gu Chenglin. She trusted her daughter’s judgment and believed that she had her reasons and stood unshakeably by them. She didn’t advise her daughter on how to treat Gu Chenglin, nor would she stop her from making any decision.
Moreover, she was indeed indebted to Gu Changqing.
Whether her daughter was acting out of consideration for her, or out of a healer’s innate compassion, there was no fault in her act of saving Gu Chenglin.
Having finished the chicken soup and also eating the chicken, Gu Jiao felt full and satisfied.
The Yao family, fearing the meal was too rich, had peeled a pomelo for her.
The sweet and slightly tart pomelo was the perfect palate cleanser.
Gu Jiao ate with relish.
Seeing Gu Jiao’s fatigue, the Yao matriarch said affectionately, “Go get some sleep.”
But Gu Jiao yawned slightly. It was indeed tempting to sleep after eating.
However, she couldn’t sleep just yet. She had to check on Gu Chenglin’s condition.
Gu Chenglin was allocated a room next to the treatment room in the rear-courtyard. The location was not far from Gu Jiao’s courtyard.
Gu Chenglin was lying quietly on the sickbed.
Lord Gu had gone to the Ministry of Works, Gu Changqing was questioning Madam Ling and preparing clothes for Gu Chenglin, and Gu Chengfeng stayed to take care of him.
However, Gu Chengfeng was not present at the moment. After inquiring from Doctor Song, Gu Jiao learned that Gu Chenglin had woken up earlier and Gu Chengfeng had gone to get him some food.
“How is his body temperature?” Gu Jiao asked.
Doctor Song replied, “I just measured it, it’s normal.”
Under Gu Jiao’s meticulous guidance, Doctor Song had become proficient in using the thermometer, sphygmomanometer, and stethoscope.
Gu Jiao nodded approvingly and asked, “When did he wake up? How long was he awake for? How was his consciousness?”
Doctor Song recalled accurately, “He woke up about half an hour ago. He didn’t speak or respond to any questions. He just lay there blankly. It was like he lost his wits. When Master Gu Chengfeng said he would buy him some food, he then closed his eyes and slept.”
There wasn’t any problem with the surgery and the blood donor was a close relative, but there was still a chance of rejection. However, Gu Jiao had used a disposable leukocyte filter, which had already filtered out the white blood cells that could cause a rejection reaction, so it was not due to blood transfusion that this was happening.
Gu Chenglin’s aberrant behavior was likely due to psychological trauma.
What do you think?
