Her skin was fair, and her long eyelashes cast shadows beneath her eyes like a brush, he never knew that a woman could look so beautiful while asleep.
Li Xianyun breathed evenly and was sleeping soundly, a strand of hair having slipped from her temple.
Yelu Yan subconsciously raised his hand but stopped, hesitating before deciding to gently brush the disobedient strand aside with his slender, attractive fingers, with extreme gentleness, fearing he would wake her.
Looking at her delicate, sweet little face, Yelu Yan actually felt a desire rise within him: he didn’t want the carriage to reach the Imperial Palace, how nice it would be to simply keep walking slowly like this.
As soon as this thought appeared, he was vehemently shaken, never having expected such an idea to cross his mind.
Yelu Yan composed his expression and averted his gaze as Xiao Dilu’s words echoed in his ears, darkening his eyes a little.
Indeed, what right did a man like him have to speak of love and affection?
He glanced at Li Xianyun again, thinking to himself that his kindness towards her was only to repay Prince Jinwu’s kindness and held no other intentions.
This was indeed his true thought.
The carriage traveled for about an hour and finally arrived at the Imperial Palace.
The soldiers at the gate, seeing Yelu Yan’s carriage from a distance, hurriedly opened the city gate.
The gates were incredibly thick, and it took five to six soldiers to push open each gate with combined effort.
When the city gate opened with a loud noise, Li Xianyun was startled awake, raising her head alertly with wide eyes, looking like a frightened little rabbit.
Yelu Yan turned to look at her and said, “Don’t be scared, it’s nothing.”
It took a moment for Li Xianyun to understand her situation; she was actually clutching tightly to Yelu Yan’s arm, her upper body pressed firmly against him.
What was this?!
Li Xianyun quickly lowered her hands and maintained a good distance from him.
She was extremely annoyed with herself; Yelu Yan was good-looking, but she wasn’t so infatuated with beauty to lose her senses.
On the way here, she had kissed his neck, clutched his firm chest, and had her face close to his, and now she was clinging to his arm, her whole body pressed against his—a perfect image of a hooligan.
But she clearly wasn’t like that, how could she have failed to control herself properly?
“I’m sorry,” Li Xianyun said.
Yelu Yan glanced at her, sat across from her, and said, “You were asleep just now, and your head almost hit something, so I sat beside you.”
Li Xianyun gently pursed her red lips.
Yelu Yan was not one to be near women, so she concluded it could only be for that reason, yet still, given the different genders, holding him so tightly was indeed inappropriate.
Li Xianyun said with some embarrassment, “Thank you.”
Yelu Yan looked at her without responding.
Li Xianyun timidly bit her lip, not daring to meet his gaze, and instead lifted a corner of the carriage curtain to look outside.
The carriage was moving slowly, passing through the grand palace gate; it seemed they were nearly there.
Thinking this, Li Xianyun’s gaze inadvertently fell on Yelu Yan and her heart suddenly skipped a beat.
Yelu Yan was gazing at her, and upon noticing she had looked over, he abruptly shifted his gaze away, unnaturally clearing his throat.
For some reason, Li Xianyun’s face turned slightly red; she was desperate to get out of the carriage, but the journey seemed endless.
After a long while, they finally arrived at the entrance of the Khan Palace.
The palace servants placed down the footstool, and Jinwu said, “Khan, your consort, we have arrived at the Khan Palace.”
Li Xianyun really wanted to hasten off the carriage, but she couldn’t leave before Yelu Yan, waiting anxiously inside.
Yelu Yan, noticing her anxious demeanor, had a slight upward curve of his lips, then bent down and stepped out of the carriage.
Li Xianyun didn’t want to go with him, deliberately dawdling in the hopes that Yelu Yan would leave first. However, when she came out, Yelu Yan was standing beside the carriage with his hands behind his back, his deep tiger-like eyes amusingly watching her.
He was actually still waiting for her, and he didn’t urge her either.
Li Xianyun pressed her lips together and, taking Yelu Yan’s hand, stepped down.
After stepping down, Yelu Yan looked at her and said, “Let’s go.”
“Mm.”
The two of them walked shoulder to shoulder towards the Khan Palace.
When they reached the main building’s entrance, Yelu Yan looked at Li Xianyun and said, “Rest well. I have already spoken to the Grand Imperial Consort, exempting you from the morning and evening court attendance. You don’t need to go to the Empress Dowager’s Palace if there is nothing important, and you can sleep as late as you want.”
Li Xianyun looked at Yelu Yan with surprise and said, “Thank you, Khan.”
Yelu Yan hummed in response, seemingly in a not too bad mood.
Li Xianyun hesitated for a moment then spoke up, “Khan, I would like to discuss something with you.”
“What is it?” Yelu Yan asked.
Li Xianyun said, “I would like to open an Ice Porridge Shop in Shangjing. Rest assured, I won’t show my face publicly and won’t cause you any trouble.”
Yelu Yan looked at her, asking, “Why do you want to open an Ice Porridge Shop?”
Li Xianyun met his gaze and said, “I want to earn some money.”
“You are a princess; if you need money, you can get it from the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” Yelu Yan said.
Li Xianyun, with her head lowered, stopped talking, revealing a long stretch of her graceful neck.
After a while, Yelu Yan asked, “Do you really want to open an Ice Porridge Shop?”
Li Xianyun, feeling hopeful, looked up and nodded her head.
“Then go ahead and open it, but remember, doing business is not an easy task,” Yelu Yan said.
“I know,” Li Xianyun said with a smile, “I can do it.”
Her confident appearance was very charming.
Yelu Yan hummed, looked down at her, and said, “Get some rest early.”
“Okay, Khan. You too,” Li Xianyun said as she bowed to him.
“Go inside,” Yelu Yan said, with one hand behind his back.
Li Xianyun hummed in response and walked towards the side hall with Zhuo Ma and Youlan.
Just after they left, Jinwu came forward, his arm curved in a salute, saying, “Reporting to the Khan, Shulu has been waiting in the Hall of Diligent Governance as per your instructions. General Yu Chi is also there, having waited for a long time.”
Yelu Yan glanced towards the direction of the side hall and then turned, striding swiftly towards the Hall of Diligent Governance.
Li Xianyun returned to the side hall and couldn’t help but yawn widely. She was truly exhausted and yearned to dive into the mosquito net and lie down in her comfortable bed for a long sleep.
But without bathing, she couldn’t fall asleep, so as she was taking off her outer robe, she said to Youlan, “Youlan, have someone prepare hot water. I need to bathe.”
Youlan replied with a smile, “My lady, I had already ordered it before we left; rest assured, hot water will be ready upon your return.”
Li Xianyun smiled, “What a clever girl you are.”
She said this as she took out a change of clothes from the wardrobe and went to the Erfang, where the bath was indeed filled with hot water and sprinkled with red petals.
Li Xianyun set aside the clothes, undressed, and stepped in.
After a day of fatigue, lying in the warm water and relaxing was truly an immense pleasure.
What do you think?
