Chapter 1292 Naivety
Chapter 1292 Naivety
The next day according to their plan, Dan and Lloyd followed Elena Reynolds, they recorded the time she went to work, and when she came home, they also kept an eye on anyone she met whether they were co-workers or friends.
At the same time, Garrof found a target who could get what he wanted. The target was a woman who worked there as a building supervisor. She was a forty-year-old woman, who was recently divorced therefore she was eager to start dating again which gave Garrof the opportunity to get close to her.
Unfortunately, Owen was given the task watching from the sidelines to make sure no one interfered Garrof when he seducing the target. Poor Owen was left alone watching Garrof flirting with a woman like a single dog.
Meanwhile, at another place, Lory and Lydia are at a rooftop cafe near the Aeon building. Lory was busy typing on her laptop while Lydia was enjoying rare peace while enjoying a latte and brownie, occasionally she glanced at Lory but didn't dare disturb her, then the waiter delivered strawberry cheesecake and mint iced tea to their table, only then did Lory close her laptop to make room for the waiter to place his order in front of him.
Lory took a sip of her iced tea after that, she gently pierced the cheesecake with a fork and took a small, delicious bite.
"Hmm, that's delicious~" Lory's face lit up with satisfaction.
Lydia giggled seeing Lory enjoying her cake like an innocent child, she found it very funny, never in a million years had she dreamed the great Princess Lorient would act like this "I didn't expect you would like cheesecake so much"
"More like addicted, to be honest...." Lory grinned then cut another piece and continued enjoying the cake, "I actually like any kind of dessert, cake, cookies, ice cream you name it, but recently I like to eat dumplings, moon cake, Tanghulu...." Lory licked her lips.
"Oh, I've never heard of it. Could this be a typical dessert of Xiya country?" Lydia was guessing because she knew Lory's husband was from Xiya.
Lory's eyes crinkled into beautiful crescents, "You could say that, it was delicious...Oh man, now I miss it!" Lory was salivating just thinking about it, she wondered if she could find a similar dish in this world but even if she could find it it would have the same taste as she had in the cultivators's world.
Seeing the melancholy in Lory's eyes caused Lydia to Feel a bit sentimental, she supported her chin and then said: "You must miss your husband, right?"
A gentle smile slowly appeared on Lory's face, "Of course I am"
"Forgive me if I'm rude but why don't you accompany him, you must be worried he explore that kind of place all by himself"
Lydia steeled herself to ask,
Lydia often caught Lory staring blankly at her cell phone as if she was waiting for a call. Lydia didn't understand, if Lory was so worried about her husband why she left her husband alone in that kinda place and instead, went to investigate Luxemborough and S.A.I.N.T.'s matters.
Was this matter more important than ensuring the safety of her beloved husband, how could she calmly investigate the enemies? If she was in Lory's position, if she couldn't accompany her husband, she wouldn't leave Blue Mirage city, in case something happened and she wouldn't be there.
Lory was only shocked for a moment, not expecting the reserved Lydia to dare ask her a personal question, Lory guffawed while waving her hand in the air "It's okay - it's okay, it's not a big deal after all" Lory didn't mind it.
Lory patted her cheeks to calm herself then said: "Simply put, I would just hinder his progress to become strong if I insisted on following him, so he told me to let him do this alone which I understand. Even though we want the same thing, we have different ways to achieve it. I guessed when you love someone, you should respect each other wishes, we were also compelled to learn to compromise our differences, and try to trust each other...yeah, you're going to need a lot of trust to make your relationship work, and that's what we do, by the way the only reason I agree with his plan because I've prepared a contingency plan in case he gets caught up in a dangerous situation" Lory's winks.
Lydia is fascinated by her gliterring eyes, even though Lory wears contact lenses to change the color of her eyes, it still doesn't reduce their brilliance.
Suddenly two men approached their table, "Hey, brunette, do you want to drink with us?"
Lydia's face turned red not because she liked that approach but more because she was confused and didn't know what to say.
Lory's expression instantly darkened "Sorry, Married!" Lory shook her ring finger in front of the uninvited men.
They were only surprised for a second before turning to Lydia, "How about this brunette?" those people smiled lewdly.
Lydia shrunk her head, she drank her latte, pretending she didn't hear them, it was the wrong action, because, now she looked like a nervous rabbit.
"My sister is not interested" Lory interjected.
Lory and Lydia deliberately dyed their hair the same color to make them look like a pair of sisters, at first glance and a beautiful one nonetheless. Of course, those men refused to back down easily, after all, it's not every day they come across a pair of beautiful sisters. One was cold beauty while the other was sweet and innocent, how could they let go of such a rare chance.
The perverted man's eyes roamed Lory's face and body like a hungry Lion sizing up its prey, "Come on, don't be like that, I promise we won't do anything, we'll just chat to get to know each other better, how about that?" The men exchanged sly glances, clearly, they had no intention of keeping their word.
Lory beckoned them with her finger to get closer after that she motionly shifted her jacket to reveal the small gun strapped to her chest, "If you have a job contract for us, we will be more than happy to come with you, so...do you?"
The two men's faces instantly pale, there were only two types of people who were allowed to carry weapons, one was government officials and the second was hunters, both of them were not the kind of people you want to mess with, what and unlucky day!
"Uhm...uh, sorry, we're sorry, we didn't mean to...yeaahh" The man smiled nervously then elbowed his friend to prompt him to get out of here immediately, They raised their hands while slowly backing away after that they turned around, and hurried away as if they were chased by a ghost.
Lory frowns "Am I that scary?"
Lydia stared at Lory with awe "There seems nothing that could unfazed you, Your Highness" she whispered so no one could hear her call Lory 'Your Highness but the truth is no one would take that seriously, people would think they just joking around.
Lory took the last bite of the cake and shrugged nonchalantly "Not true, I'm just older and got more experience, and grew up amongst men also help" Lory then waved at the waiter.
Lory then ordered a box of macaroons, a classic chocolate mousse, and a refill for her drink. Lydia was astonished at how much sweet Lory could consume it seemed Lory was not joking when she said she was addicted to dessert.
However, after interacting with Lory these past few days she realizes how normal Lory is.
Lory doesn't like the legendary Princess Lorient that people talking about, the mythical figure that fights against a horde of Demon beasts all by herself. No! on the contrary, she was just a normal girl who liked joking around, eating dessert, and couldn't stop worrying about her loved one just like everyone else in the world, but then again, that was what made her even more special.
"Marissa isn't fond of the saint very much.," Lydia abruptly said.
Lory tilted her head she asked casually "Oh, why is that?'
The waiter came to deliver Lory's order, Lory slowly sipped her tea without urging Lydia to continue. Meanwhile, Lydia was momentarily silent, her eyebrows knitted closely together, she appeared to be conflicted "It was something she said, "How we should never punish people for their mistakes, we should always forgive them and be understanding because people are naturally good and kind, we all must accept them equally..."
"Is that wrong?" Lory scooped the chocolate mouse and then brought it to her mouth elatedly.
"But...what if those people is a pedophile, rapist, or mass murderers...should we forgive them, should we let their mistakes get away just like that without punishing them? accepted them equally, really?"
Lory chuckles "You're not agree?"
Lydia shakes her head "Well, at that time I agreed with everything she said, I thought she was very kind and sincere but Marissa said she was stupidly naive"
Lory guffawed, "She said that?"
Lydia nodded "She was...I don't understand at that time but I understand now. The saintess also likes to say about how the world leaders should set aside their differences and start to work together to make this world a better place, but I realized she never said how to accomplish that...what do you think?" Lydia waits for Lory's answer with anticipation.
Lory shrugged nonchalantly "Well is not impossible but also not easy after all different countries, different world views, different priorities, different needs, also different ambitions...and greed, so much greed..." Lory licked her spoon and then continued "In the end what moved people is profit, so we find a way where everyone could share the mutual benefit and find the middle ground about certain matters, of course, friction cannot be avoided between the countries but that's normal, it will take several years but I'm confident we can get there eventually, besides no one wants to repeat the Dark age war or most of them don't..." @@novelbin@@
Lydia holds her breath, that's it! that's what she wants to hear, a realistic expectation! meanwhile, the Saintess only talks about Love, care, understanding, and acceptance. It sounds good but the world is not kindergarten, You can't expect all world leaders to work together without expecting anything, right? That's not possible!
Lydia remembers Marissa saying that the Saintess was like a gullible girl walking on a flowery path, she see the life through the rose tinted glass, as if she couldn't see the true reality around her, doesn't she understand that the world had changed so much since the Dark Age War.
After the old order collapsed after many great nations were destroyed, the remaining countries saw this as a good opportunity, thus they all began to compete with each other to become the next superpower country and they would do anything to achieve it.
What do you think?
