The Reversal System: Only for the Elite at the Mahayana Stage

Chapter 5 – Anger

Jiang Li genuinely wanted to laugh. When had he ever practiced demonic cultivation?

The demonic path was a primary target for suppression by the People's Emperor Hall. Anyone daring to cultivate it had to be prepared to oppose the entire cultivation world.

There were numerous paths to becoming an immortal, with dozens of methods such as the Body Refining Path that tempered the physical body, the Gu Path that nurtured parasites within oneself, the Qi Refining Path that transformed essence, and the Rune Path of heavenly symbols and formations. However, there was one path forbidden in the cultivation world.

That was the demonic path of solitary ascension.

The demonic path was about having no taboos, using any means necessary, sacrificing all beings for one person's gain. It didn't matter how many died, as long as one could survive and grow stronger.

In the past, when the path to ascension was still open, the Nine Provinces didn't entirely reject the demonic path. After all, even if one cultivated it to the end, it was still just ascension, within the Nine Provinces' tolerance. But after the path to ascension was severed, demonic cultivators thought of blood sacrifices across the Nine Provinces, hoping to nurture an Immortal from the lives of all beings, possibly achieving ascension. They even caused massacres where no one from a dynasty survived.

Because of this, the cultivation world of the Nine Provinces reached an unspoken agreement: anyone practicing the demonic path should be executed.@@novelbin@@

"Aren't you surprised?"

"Without evidence, there's no reason to be surprised."

"Of course, there's evidence. Haven't you heard the rumor, whether true or false, that before Jiang Peoples Emperor became the People's Emperor, he recklessly fought with extraterritorial demons, causing an entire city to perish with no survivors? And the Jiang family has stolen over a hundred infants. What could they possibly need so many infants for? It must be for a blood sacrifice, using them to aid someone in forming an Elemental Infant. This is a purely demonic method. Could Jiang Peoples Emperor be unaware of this?"

"With Jiang Peoples Emperor's abilities, helping someone achieve the Elemental Infant stage is simple. Yet he doesn't stop the Jiang family from using demonic methods, indicating he's not just indulging them but is likely a demonic cultivator himself. Only someone from the demonic path would ignore other methods of achieving the Elemental Infant stage and allow their family to use such extreme demonic methods!"

"Senior Zhang, if my speculation is true and the current People's Emperor is a demonic cultivator, the Nine Provinces will face a catastrophe! Please inform your sect's leader of this matter!"

Yuan Wuxing was about to kneel and plead with Jiang Li, but he found himself unable to kneel, as if held up by a pair of giant hands.

"Senior Zhang..."

Yuan Wuxing wanted to say more but saw Jiang Li's face darken as he got up and walked out of the room.

Jiang Li's aura was terrifying, as if on the brink of rage. Yuan Wuxing swallowed hard and said nothing more.

No matter how Yuan Wuxing badmouthed the People's Emperor, claiming Jiang Peoples Emperor secretly helped the Jiang family or practiced demonic cultivation, Jiang Li would just smile indifferently, treating it as a joke, knowing he hadn't done those things.

But Yuan Wuxing's speculation about the Jiang family's blood sacrifice of infants was different, because Jiang Li knew it was highly likely to be true!

Otherwise, it was hard to explain why the Jiang family needed so many infants!

The People's Emperor Hall was the number one force opposing demonic cultivation in the Nine Provinces, yet the Jiang family might be using his name to practice demonic cultivation!

Jiang Li was seething with anger, his divine sense spreading for hundreds of miles, encompassing several cities including Qingcheng, yet he found nothing.

Finding nothing was a problem in itself.

He found no traces of a blood sacrifice of infants, nor any missing infants.

Jiang Li focused his divine sense on the Jiang family's mansion, which appeared to be conducting ancestral rites as before, with no changes, no basements, or secret passages.

In this situation, either Yuan Wuxing was completely wrong, or someone had hidden the infants in another space.

There were two ways to use space in the Nine Provinces: one was using a storage ring as a carrier, allowing entry into the space at any time, but this space couldn't hold living beings. The other was finding a space node, which couldn't be moved but could hold living beings, like a secret realm.

Space nodes were extremely hidden, and if not entering or exiting the space, they couldn't be detected from outside.

"Do you have concrete evidence for these claims? Like a memory orb recording the conversation between the Jiang family head and the city lord?"

Yuan Wuxing saw Jiang Li re-enter the room, his expression calm as before, no longer as gloomy as when he left.

"No, using a memory orb would cause a magical power fluctuation, which the Elemental Infant stage city lord would notice. As for other evidence... there is none."

Yuan Wuxing felt a bit dejected at this point, but then he said, "The frequency of the Jiang family's ancestral rites coincides with the frequency of infant disappearances. I suspect they're pretending to conduct ancestral rites while actually performing blood sacrifices, but the Jiang family's defenses during these rites are too tight. I've tried for years but couldn't get in."

"The Jiang family is conducting ancestral rites now. Senior, you could try..."

Jiang Li shook his head. "I've already been to the Jiang family, and there's nothing unusual... Hmm?"

Jiang Li's lips curled slightly, as if pleased to have found a clue, or perhaps it was a cold smile.

"Talking about it led to a discovery."

Jiang Li's divine sense remained spread over a hundred miles.

...

Under a large tree on the outskirts of Qingcheng, space twisted, and an old man in hemp robes emerged.

The old man cautiously observed his surroundings, confirmed no one was around, then flew towards the Jiang family ancestral hall.

...

Jiang Li didn't follow the old man to the Jiang family. Instead, he took Yuan Wuxing to the space node on the outskirts of Qingcheng.

With a gentle touch, the space rippled, eventually forming a stable space gate.

The space was small, only the size of a cave. Upon entering, the stench of blood assaulted their senses, causing Yuan Wuxing to cough.

Once Yuan Wuxing adapted to the smell, he was stunned by the sight before him.

Hundreds of tiny skeletons, no longer than a forearm, were piled on either side of the cave, as if casually tossed aside. Skulls were detached from spines, hand and leg bones separated from torsos, in utter disarray.

At the end of the path was an altar stained red with blood, upon which lay a dozen intact infant corpses. Wisps of blood energy spread from the bones into the air, with flesh visibly dissipating, intensifying the nauseating stench. Soon, the white bones of fingertips were visible.

Unable to bear it, Yuan Wuxing stumbled to the wall, retching again, but he failed to steady himself, slipping and falling into the pile of bones.

Lacking the strength to rise, he lay amidst the bones, vomiting and crying, "Monsters, the Jiang family are monsters! How could they do this? Don't they have children of their own!"

Jiang Li remained silent, his expression chillingly cold.

Jiang Li hadn't followed the old man, knowing the man couldn't escape. He came here to see if there was any chance of saving anyone.

Now it seemed, not a single one could be saved.

A calm and harmonious chant of the Rebirth Mantra echoed in the small space, initially a low murmur, gradually growing louder and clearer.

The final syllables shook the space, causing stones to fall, as if it might collapse at any moment.

"Senior... Senior Zhang."

Yuan Wuxing stared at the furious Jiang Li, dumbfounded.

To shake a space to the brink of collapse with just his voice was clearly beyond the capabilities of the Elemental Infant stage.

Jiang Li turned to the middle-aged man with reddened eyes, baring his white teeth in a smile, "Let's pay a visit to the Jiang family."
