Chapter Twelve: The Unspoken Agreement
Darius stood alone at the summit of the mountain, the wind whipping through his cloak as he gazed out over the sprawling landscape below. The sky was a muted grey, the early morning clouds swirling like spirits of the dead, shrouding the peak in an eerie mist. It was a place of solitude, a place where time seemed to stretch on forever.
But it was also a place of secrets.
A dark cave lay hidden just beyond the ridge, its mouth barely visible from the path that wound up the mountain. It had been there for years—decades, perhaps—waiting. And now, Darius was about to return to its depths, to the place where his true purpose was anchored.
He stepped into the cave with quiet precision, his footsteps echoing against the jagged stone. The air inside was damp and musty, carrying the scent of ancient decay. Yet, it felt almost familiar to Darius, like a place he had always known but never truly left.
What do you think?
