Chapter 199
Just two days later, Nian Suian received a call from Yu Chun. She said that the Qi Family had contacted her and she had agreed to meet on Wednesday for a paternity test. She had already taken leave from school.
When Wednesday arrived, Gu Junxing had indeed arranged for two bodyguards. Both men were nearly two meters tall, towering and muscular, looking quite intimidating.
Nian Suian, accompanied by the bodyguards, went to pick up Yu Chun. The Qi Family was in a hurry and had arranged to meet directly at the hospital.
This hospital was quite familiar to Nian Suian—it was the same one where Gu Junxing had undergone surgery.
After delivering Yu Chun to the hospital room specified by the Qi Family, Nian Suian was stopped by the Qi Family’s bodyguards at the door.
Nian Suian understood. They probably wanted to speak with Yu Chun alone. She nodded at Yu Chun and went to find a seat nearby.
About ten minutes later, a doctor entered the room with a nurse, likely to collect blood samples for the paternity test.
After the doctor left, someone approached Nian Suian.
"Miss Nian, Old Madam Qi would like to speak with you."
Nian Suian stood up and followed the person into the room. Inside, the elderly woman was pale and thin, clearly in poor health. She was clutching Yu Chun’s hand tightly, her eyes red, clearly having just cried.
Nian Suian glanced at Yu Chun, whose eyes were also red and glistening with tears.
"Miss Nian, thank you. I’ve heard from Yu Chun that you’ve been a great help to her. On behalf of the Qi Family, I am deeply grateful."
The old lady stood up and bowed to Nian Suian, who quickly stepped aside to avoid the gesture.
"Madam, there’s no need for this."
The old lady’s actions made it clear that she had already decided Yu Chun was her granddaughter. But in this world, there are people who look alike. Until the paternity test results came out, no one could be certain.
Nian Suian was worried. If Yu Chun turned out not to be the granddaughter, the old lady’s fragile health might not withstand the shock.
The Qi Family had likely considered this as well, which was why they had arranged the meeting at the hospital. If anything went wrong, doctors could intervene immediately.
"Everyone says we need to wait for the paternity test to confirm, but the moment I saw Yu Chun, I knew she was my granddaughter. She looks so much like her mother—how could I possibly mistake her?"
The old lady even took out a photo of her daughter to show them. Nian Suian was stunned when she saw it.
The person in the photo looked exactly like an aged version of Yu Chun. The resemblance was uncanny.
Yu Chun herself was in shock. She had always thought the Qi Family had made a mistake. But the moment she entered the room, Old Madam Qi had hugged her and wept. Seeing the old lady’s white hair and hearing her heart-wrenching sobs, Yu Chun had been moved to tears as well.
Now, looking at the photo, Yu Chun felt a sense of unreality. Could there really be a stranger who looked so much like her?
Yu Chun stared at the photo and couldn’t help but ask, "Where… is she now?"
Nian Suian had also wondered about this. If Yu Chun really was a member of the Qi Family, then this woman would be her mother. So why wasn’t she here for the paternity test? Unless…
Sure enough, as soon as Yu Chun asked, Old Madam Qi’s tears began to fall again.
"My poor daughter… She was lost for so long, and just after we found her, she…" She couldn’t finish her sentence and instead hugged Yu Chun tightly, crying.
"If only I had found you sooner, we could have been reunited as a family."
Hearing her cry like this, Nian Suian grew concerned for the old lady’s health and stepped out to ask someone to call a doctor.
Just as she finished speaking, she saw the girl she and Yu Chun had encountered at the mall rushing over.
"Old Zheng, are the test results out yet?"
"Not yet, Miss. Miss Nian here was worried about Old Madam Qi’s health and asked me to fetch a doctor."
"That’s the right thing to do. Go ahead."
Hearing the faint sounds of crying from inside, the girl didn’t enter the room. Instead, she spoke to Nian Suian at the door.
"Miss Nian, I must apologize. When we saw you at the mall that day, I had someone investigate you privately. Yu Chun looks so much like my aunt… I hope you can understand."
"It’s alright. If Yu Chun can find her family this way, that would be the best outcome."
Qi Yunxi glanced toward the hospital room door, her eyes filled with worry.
"None of the family wanted Grandmother to come here. Her health has been declining these past two years. We were all afraid the journey would be too much for her. But when she saw Yu Chun’s photo, she insisted it was her. She even went on a hunger strike to make sure she could come."
Because of this, Qi Yunxi had been scolded by her father. He said she should have confirmed the truth before telling Grandmother. If the results turned out negative, how would Grandmother cope?
But for the past two years, Grandmother had been constantly holding her daughter’s photo, often saying that if her granddaughter wasn’t found, she wouldn’t be able to rest in peace.
Qi Yunxi had never met her aunt in her youth, but she had grown up hearing stories about her. She had seen photos of her aunt when she was young—she was stunningly beautiful. It had always been a source of regret, not knowing what had happened to such a beautiful woman.
Two years ago, her aunt had been found. Qi Yunxi had rushed to the old family home with her father to meet her. But she couldn’t reconcile the woman before her with the bright-eyed girl in the photos. Although her aunt was her father’s sister, she looked more like his elder after being found.
Later, she learned that her aunt had been found by the police while searching for a kidnapped girl. Her aunt and the kidnapped girl had been taken to the same village. Several other kidnapped women had also been found there.
The police had taken them back and conducted DNA tests, which was how her aunt had been identified.
But after returning home, her aunt’s mental state fluctuated between clarity and confusion. During a medical checkup, the doctor mentioned that she might have given birth to a child at some point.
The family tried to find out what had happened to the child, but every time they brought it up, her aunt would become extremely agitated. They decided not to press further.
Later, they sent someone to investigate the village where her aunt had been found, but the villagers said she had never given birth there. In fact, because she couldn’t have children, she had often been beaten and abused by the family.
As for what had happened before she was kidnapped, no one could find out.
Then, one day, her aunt suddenly became lucid. She clung to Grandmother, crying and begging her to find her daughter, saying her child had been abandoned.
Not long after that, her aunt passed away. The doctors had said when she was first found that her body had been too weakened by years of malnutrition and abuse.
This had become Grandmother’s greatest regret, which was why, when she saw Yu Chun, she had called without hesitation.
Nian Suian could only say, "I hope for a good outcome."
If Yu Chun really was a member of the Qi Family, then Old Madam Qi could finally find peace, and Yu Chun would have found her family. Nothing could be better.
What do you think?
