Legendary killer's system

14. Journey through Hell. Part 1.

In the place where the battle between a human and a fire-bodied lizard king had taken place, a man was monstrously devouring the body of the already dead lizard.

He was immersed in this, and every time he devoured more, he began to glow with a dark light, an abnormal immensity in his body.

Some time later, nothing remained of the lizard, and Fred then rested.

"Ahh, it feels good to eat after a while, and the best part is that I get stronger every time," Fred said.

Then he began to remember what happened right when he died.

Being dead, for a moment he thought he was going to leave that place, but things didn't happen that way. What happened was that the system gave him a gift at the cost of his immortality: he became stronger by devouring the slain monsters. In itself, it was quite disgusting, even for Fred, but the idea of defending himself with accumulated strength fascinated him, although the price this time was very high.

"Fucking bad thing about having this power is that if I die, I won't be resurrected anymore; I'm truly... dead."

*Sigh*

"It seems the only way to survive in this environment is to kill whatever wants to kill me... I consider this the damn price of survival!" Fred added with a grin.

Then he got up from the floor and approached the end of the cave, which he immediately punched, extremely fast.

*Pounding sound*

*(Krunch) Wall cracking*

Fred looked at his hand, which, despite exerting that kind of force in that punch capable of cracking that kind of wall, didn't bleed, nor did he feel any pain, just confusion.

"How weird? Am I some kind of superhuman now or something?"

*Guhhhh!*

Unexpectedly, a monster's sound was heard, alarming Fred. He picked up the dead monster's sword-like claw and the hide he had obtained to cover himself, and ran toward the sound.

When he arrived, following the sounds, he found a brightly lit space and dozens of monsters of different sizes, all of the same race as the old dead bear monster.

Fred's unexpected visit alerted the bears, who were feasting on various small, goblin-like monsters. Upon seeing the human, they were alert to his every move.

And Fred, just as he came, turned to leave.

"If I fight these bears, it would be very difficult to get out of this battle alive, so it's best to make a strategic retreat."

As Fred walked to leave, he heard a roar from each bear monster, indicating that it was already dead.

"..."

What happened was that the bear monsters saw Fred using the skin of a member of their group, and their instincts told them that Fred had killed him, so as faithful protectors of their pack, they decided to attack.

Then the battle began. They didn't go one on one toward Fred, but together.

So, Fred, given no other option, decided to fight to the death.

...

Hours later, the monsters were already dead, and Fred was eating the freshly cooked heads with an ugly scar on the right side of his face.

But guess who? The goblins themselves, who were even eating with him, even though they couldn't communicate.

"In all the isekai novels and manga I've read, the goblins are always the bad guys, but it seems like they're all just scams, or at least to me," Fred commented to the goblins eating next to him, who literally didn't understand him at all.

"It seems this is some kind of place inhabited by bear monsters, and the poor goblins are hunted and used as food. It's incredible how such an ugly thing can be treated like this," Fred thought.

Out of nowhere, Fred felt something touch him, and when he turned around to see, he saw a goblin who had tried to stab him, but his knife broke due to Fred's tough hide.

"Geeehhhh!"

When he was discovered, he made a sound that caused the goblins to surround Fred almost instantly. Along with them, thousands more goblins came out from different places, surrounding Fred from many angles. Yet Fred was still calm, still eating the freshly cooked bear monster's head.

"These goblins are quite similar to those described in stories or fantasy novels, but with obvious differences, such as their height, which is about 1.78-1.82 meters, and also the damn fact that some of them have strange robes and a tall, glowing staff. Are they some kind of goblin wizard? The strangest thing is that there are like 100 of these!"

To Fred's surprise, the goblins grouped together, and in the middle of them, there was a kind of path, and along that path were some even stranger goblins. These seemed more human-like, but with visible features, such as the green color of their skin or their ears, which marked their identity as goblins.

There were two of them, a man and a woman. The man looked like an old man wearing the same wizard's robe and carrying a staff. He also had white hair and marked features for old age; beside him was a young lady in a wizard's robe and with a cane who looked like a young woman in her twenties.

They approached Fred and, when they were face to face with him, strangely enough, they spoke in their language.

"Hello, human, what is your name?"

"..."

Fred didn't know how to respond because he had even more doubts about what was happening at this moment.

"Um, I'm sure you must be confused about how I speak your language. It's a long story," the old man said, frowning.

"My name is Fred and... I find it strange that you speak my language. Anyway, it has nothing to do with me. I'll continue eating. If you want, stay and join me. If not, you can leave." Fred said, sitting down again to continue eating.

He didn't want to get involved in unnecessary conflicts.

"H-How dare you speak like that to the king of the Gornuck tribe, the ruler of this demonic territory?" The girl next to him complained.

"Huh?! Demon territory?!" Fred said in his confused mind.

"Daughter, calm down, he doesn't seem to even know me..." he said before being interrupted.

"Excuse me for interrupting, but where are we?"

"You seem to be new around here. Well, this is my Gornuck tribe's territory on level 1."

"Level 1?" Fred asked.

"Yes, level 1, of the 99 hells," the old goblin replied.

"What?!"
