Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Entanglement
“Grandma, have you forgotten?” Zhong Niangyao smiled as she began to explain, “During that time, wasn’t I out traveling? I only learned about Shen Yixue’s award after I came back.”
“I will personally visit the school tomorrow,” Old Sir Zhong decided resolutely, “I want the school to give us an explanation as soon as possible.”
Hearing Old Sir Zhong’s words, Zhong Niangyao quickly spoke up to stop him, “Grandpa, there’s really no need to make such a fuss. The situation has gotten so big that the school will definitely not ignore it and will quickly give us an explanation. So, I think we don’t need to pressure the school so much.”
“But—” Old Sir Zhong frowned, “with such a big issue, if we don’t step in, would the academy think that we don’t take this matter seriously?”
“Grandpa, I have already made a big scene about this issue, and the school can’t just brush it off,” Zhong Niangyao continued, “We are on the side of justice, and today I exposed everything in front of so many people. If we keep pushing them aggressively, it will make us seem unreasonable. Then, the school may also become disgruntled with us!”
After hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words, Old Sir Zhong pondered for a moment and finally nodded, “Let’s leave it at that for now! However, if the academy doesn’t give us a satisfactory explanation in the end, I will definitely go there myself and demand answers.”
“Alright, alright, alright.” Seeing that Old Sir Zhong had dropped the idea, Zhong Niangyao quickly promised, “If the academy doesn’t treat us fairly, not to mention Grandpa, even I myself will demand justice again.”
Old Sir Zhong gave Zhong Niangyao a look, “You talk as if you’re so formidable, and now to have been outwitted by someone like Shen Yixue, a ‘Holy Mother White Lotus,’ as they say now, it’s truly embarrassing.”
Zhong Niangyao stuck out her tongue and joked with a smile, “Grandpa, you’re amazing! You even know what a ‘Holy Mother White Lotus’ is.”
It must be said, Old Sir Zhong’s description was quite apt—Shen Yixue was indeed like a giant ‘Holy Mother White Lotus’!
“That’s right!” Old Sir Zhong held his head high, but then he immediately realized something and gave Zhong Niangyao a suspicious look, “Are you making fun of me?”
“Of course not,” Zhong Niangyao swore immediately, “Grandpa, all my words come from the heart!”
Subsequently, with Zhong Niangyao skillfully changing the subject, the three family members had a very happy conversation.
The Zhong family was in harmony, but on the other side, in the hospital, Shen Yixue’s heart was tormented.
She had practically spent the entire day waiting in the hospital room, but Li Jingming never returned. She didn’t know what she should do now.
She had already thought about how to explain herself to Li Jingming, how to gain his sympathy, how to make him forgive her.
But no matter how much she planned, it was useless because she couldn’t see him, and everything else was even more out of question.
Li Jingming did not return, so Shen Yixue had to be discharged from the hospital herself.
Her health was fine, having fainted only due to shock. Now that she was awake, there was no need to stay in the hospital. Moreover, the cost of continuing to stay was too high, which she could not afford.
Li Jingming, due to his urgency, had sent Shen Yixue to a private hospital he usually frequented. And because he left in a hurry, he also forgot about the payment.
This was a private hospital, different from public hospitals. The patients who visited here were wealthy people, never defaulting on medical fees. Therefore, the hospital’s policy was different, they didn’t press for the deposit for hospitalization; they waited until discharge to settle everything in one go.
With Li Jingming absent, Shen Yixue had to settle the medical bill herself.
Watching her account balance dwindling suddenly, Shen Yixue was endlessly irritated.
With today’s events, she didn’t dare to go back to stay at school for the time being. Likewise, she didn’t want to return to her cramped and gloomy home.
Having no other choice, she found a hotel to stay in for now and then started to think about what to do next.
Now that Zhong Niangyao had exposed all her deeds, it was certain that she wouldn’t receive any of the first-place prize money.
Next, she had to plan carefully about what to do. She was also unsure how the school would handle the situation.
However, one thing was certain—she needed to try her best to hold on to Li Jingming. He was her only lifeline.
Lying in bed, Shen Yixue still couldn’t fall asleep, shaking with rage whenever she thought about the day’s events.
Years of effort, her reputation, all that she had, had been destroyed today. And the instigator of it all was Zhong Niangyao.
She even began to suspect that Nianyao knew she would be in the competition and had purposely schemed to trap her.
The next morning, Shen Yixue immediately called Li Jingming.
She dared not return to school nor directly go to Li Jingming’s home, whether he lived at the Lai family home or Chen Sisi’s place; she dared not visit. So she had to make a phone call.
She wasn’t at all worried that Li Jingming wouldn’t answer her call. She knew well what kind of person he was—too soft-hearted, and he definitely still had feelings for her.
If only Li Jingming would pick up the phone, she was convinced she could turn things around.
Half an hour later, Shen Yixue heard a knock on the door; she composed herself, quickly adjusted her facial expression, and then went to open the door.
Standing outside was Li Jingming, his face full of conflict.
He didn’t know if coming here today was too impulsive of him since his mother had already warned him the day before.
Yet, upon hearing Shen Yixue’s sobbing on the phone, he couldn’t ignore it. He was also worried that Shen Yixue might do something foolish.
In the end, he raised his hand and knocked on the door.
The door opened quickly, revealing Shen Yixue, tears in her eyes but stubbornly not allowing them to fall, appearing both defiant and pitiable.
At the sight of Shen Yixue, Li Jingming felt all his mental preparations shatter in that moment.
What do you think?
