Chapter 232: Growing Anxious
Lia kept her eyes tightly shut, her body seemingly immersed in a void.
Under the dark, boundless starry sky, her body curled up tightly, arms pressed close against her body, as if sinking into a warm embrace.
"Mmm..."
Lia slowly opened her eyes and lifted her head, making out the sky of this space. Finally, the surrounding space gradually took on new contours.
She opened her mouth, but words stuck in her throat like a stone, unable to utter a single word.
Lia tentatively stretched out her hand, two plump, lotus-root-white arms leaving the warmth of her chest, passing through the void. She stared at her arms, dumbfounded.
Then, her body let out a cry - the inexplicable wailing of an infant. That was her voice, Lia was certain of it.
Soon, the crying attracted a boy's attention. The boy came running over, carefully taking her from the adult's arms with his left hand.
"Don't cry, don't cry."
The boy had jet-black hair and slowly raised his face. His eyes were exceptionally beautiful, clear and lively, with black pupils like deep crystals, yet sparkling like stars.
An adult's mature voice sounded from behind the boy:
"Don't frighten her, Viktor."
Vik...tor?
Lia's tear-filled eyes looked at the boy before her, everything seeming somewhat blurry.
She reached out her hand, unconsciously grabbing at the boy's face. She succeeded - the boy's cheek turned bright red where she grabbed it, looking quite painful, but his smile didn't change at all.
Still wearing that expression of delighted surprise, his obsidian eyes gazed lovingly at the infant in his arms.
"She's so beautiful."
"Is she really my sister?"
The adult's voice sounded again:
"That's right, she's your sister."
"Lia Kravina - that will be her name from now on."
"You must protect her well, Viktor."
The boy nodded, his eyes full of anticipation.
"I definitely will."
No, that's not right...
Age 5 -
November 6th.
Fine snow like goose feathers fell outside the mansion, signaling that Bryston had entered winter.
Lia raised her soft left hand, catching snowflakes in her palm that melted instantly. She blew hot breath onto her small hands, rubbing them together.
Suddenly, an astonished voice rang out from inside the mansion:
"This is amazing!"
"Viscount, your child has extraordinary magical talent!"
The adult inside chuckled:
"Is that so? Well, that's wonderful."
"Viktor, you must study magic diligently and become an excellent mage."
Then came the boy's young laughter from inside.
"For Lia's sake, I definitely will."
No, that's not right...
December 21st.
Lia wore a thick pink cotton coat, its long sleeves covering her small hands, with a delicate and long wool scarf wrapped several times around the collar. Her cheeks were rosy red, and a pink cotton hat had slipped down, covering Lia's small bright eyes.
Eagerly waiting for Helnersen to finish building the snowman, she was in high spirits, wearing an innocent smile.
The next moment, a fireball flew past her face, melting the large snowball meant for making the snowman.
Lia looked back.
The boy held up his left hand, white steam rising from his fingertips:
"Sorry, Lia."
"I just learned this magic, it's a bit unstable."
His face showed remorse as he apologized to Lia.
No, that's not right...
December 22nd.
Lia accidentally knocked over the vase on the table. The vase shattered, its damp soil spilling onto the book covered in strange patterns.
Lia hurriedly brushed away the soil, but the pages were already stained, leaving marks. It was expensive, Lia knew she had made a terrible mistake. That was Viktor's most precious spellbook.
The boy walked over, merely glancing at the soiled book. Now ten years old, he was much taller than Lia, so he turned and crouched down in front of her.
Those bright black eyes gazed at her tenderly.
"Did that scare you, Lia?"
"It's okay to cry if you want to. Don't be afraid."
The boy placed his left hand gently on Lia's head, stroking it. Lia's eyes grew moist, tears bursting forth. She couldn't hold back anymore and began crying loudly.
The boy pulled her into his embrace, holding her tightly with warm arms. His left hand gently, slowly rubbed her back.
"I'll protect you for life."
"I definitely will."
Still not right...
Age 8.
Lia watched the visitor who came to the family. His name was Angus Delin, her father's brother-in-arms. He was a powerful knight who lived in the north, maintaining stability in the northern conflicts.
Behind him followed a little girl with the same silver-white hair as him. She was about Lia's age and very pretty.
She timidly hid behind Uncle Angus, her left hand tightly gripping his trouser leg, shyly peeking out.
Lia thought she must have a very good relationship with Uncle Angus. Through the adults' conversation, she learned the girl's name.
'Gwen Delin'.
Lia had a feeling they would become very special friends.
This is completely wrong...
Age 10.
The Delin family and Kravina family arranged a marriage between Viktor Kravina and Gwen Delin.
The fifteen-year-old boy, already like an elegant young gentleman, accepted the family's arrangement.
Bzzt—
An electric current seemed to sound by her ear, but vanished in an instant.
Lia paid it no mind.
Age 14.
This year, Lia had begun taking over the family business. Father said she needed to assist her brother as much as possible.
Also, since her brother already had a fiancée, therefore... Lia could no longer act spoiled with the boy as she had before.
Taking over the family business, Lia began to mature. But she hadn't forgotten to assist her brother.
Just as he had said.
"I definitely will."
...
Age 15.
Father died.
His title passed to Viktor Kravina. At twenty years old, he became the empire's youngest viscount.
His genius was well-known - a third-tier mage at just twenty. So even though Father had passed away, the Kravina family's influence remained undiminished.
More people came to visit, just to associate with this youngest viscount. The kind Viktor received them all.
At night, alone, he dragged his exhausted body. Sitting in a pavilion under the moon, brooding alone.
Lia watched his back.
As if sensing something, the man turned around. Using his left hand, he beckoned to her:
"Come here, Lia."
Her body moved unconsciously, walking forward. The man reached out his left hand, pulling her into his embrace.
Just like when she was little, he held her tight. But she could feel the fatigue in the man's body.
His chin rested on Lia's shoulder, showing weakness.
"Lia, I'm so tired."
"With Father gone, you... you're the only one I can rely on."
Brother would rely on her too?
He definitely would.
Lia reached out her arms, embracing the man's broad, solid back.
Wrong... is it?
Age 20.
Gwen Delin became the empire's youngest Royal Knight Commander, making many proud.
That day, at the celebratory family banquet, Viktor proposed to her.
In a daze, Lia found herself at the church.
She stood on a patch of green grass, beneath an azure sky where white clouds drifted lazily. All around were seated guests with beaming faces, and beneath them white chairs. Equally white was the priest's pulpit.
White doves and crows flew past each other in the sky at the same moment, countless guests eagerly awaiting the wedding ceremony.
Lia stood below, watching the scene before her.
Gwen wore an immaculate wedding dress, with exquisite makeup, beautiful as a goddess in a painting, elegant and noble.
Viktor wore a black suit, standing nearby, gentlemanly extending his left hand to Gwen. Gwen took Viktor's arm with her right, and they walked side by side into the wedding hall.
Countless flowers surrounded them, mixed with the nobles' laughter and thunderous applause.
Lia watched helplessly as the two walked toward the hall of happiness.
The priest stood at the pulpit, holding a thick law book, looking at Gwen on the left, asking:
"Miss Gwen, do you wish to spend your life with Viktor Kravina, for richer or poorer?"
Gwen smiled, looking at the man before her, nodding.
"I do."
Wrong, wrong...
The priest turned his head to look at Viktor:
"Will you protect Gwen Delin for all her life?"
Viktor raised his head, looking at Gwen with those obsidian bright eyes.
"I do."
Wrong!
"I definitely will."
"WRONG!!!"
Lia could no longer bear it all and shouted out loud.
But none of the people around paid her any attention. The nobles remained unmoved, continuing to offer sincere congratulations and smiles to the newlyweds on stage.
Lia's eyes widened as she watched Viktor and Gwen exchange rings.
"This is... completely wrong."
"Isn't this everything you hoped for, Lia Kravina?"
A profound voice sounded nearby - a voice only Lia herself could hear.
The scene around continued clearly. But at this moment, Lia understood something.
Just as Gwen put on that wedding ring, Lia lowered her head.
"Everything I hoped for? Heh."
She merely raised her right hand. Six glowing gems flickered faintly on her glove.
The next moment, all six luminous gems flashed simultaneously. Six-fold arrays flickered on Lia's glove, beginning to rotate, complex patterns starting to intertwine around the arrays.
Terrifying magical power poured forth simultaneously from the six arrays, the chaotic magic gathering into a dazzling white light before her.
The powerful wave instantly engulfed everything around, the massive impact splitting the earth. Everything around fell into deathly silence, even sound being gradually torn apart into confusion.
The scorching white light seemed ready to destroy this world completely. Like a painting being torn apart, continuously burning, revealing spots of void blackness.
Looking at the wedding hall bursting into flames before her, Lia raised her head.
A cold voice sounded from her mouth, speaking indifferently.
"How dare you assume such things?"
What do you think?
