Chapter 177 177: Taking turns to sulk.
Two hours later, they left the Tai family home but not before Alix was added to the family group chat and shared her wechat with all of her new relatives.
As soon as they left the house, grandpa Tai and Ho Sun eagerly made their way to the living room and started digging through the gifts she had brought. Their zeal for whatever they were in search of attracted the attention of the others.
"What are you guys doing?" Tai Dalian asked them.
Grandpa Tai and Ho Sun did not respond. Neither did grandma Sun as she joined them. Everything which was edible was separated from the non edible gifts.
"Father, what are you doing?" Tai Heng squeezed himself closer to grandpa Tai curiously.
However, his father and son remained conveniently silent and started grabbing whatever they could get their hands on. They had eaten tasty apples, tasty beef jerky and drunk tasty milk. How could anything else be less tasty?
In the car, Alix was leaning her head on Caishen's shoulder in a cheerful mood. Nothing, she was absolutely sure that nothing would bring her down.
The Tai family was really lovely. How she would have have loved to grow up in such an environment rather than the loveless one she was raised in!.
She sighed and Caishen looked down at her. He had one arm around her shoulders and he was tapping his fingers against her arm slowly. There was some rhythm to it, as if he was singing a song in his head.
"Did you enjoy yourself?" he asked her.
She nodded. "They are really nice."
He laughed beneath his breath and said, "That's not what I asked? They may be nice but what matters the most to me is if you enjoyed our visit. If you didn't then we never have to go back there."
"I did." she raised her head and added, "I was a bit surprised when grandma asked if they can prepare a bedroom for me in their house."
"That was a bit surprising to me too." he admitted as well.
He thought the Tai's were going to go slow and ease into the relationship. He was dead wrong however because grandpa Tai married a woman that was just like him. When she liked something she didn't hold back.
It didn't really surprise Caishen too that Alix had said yes. One it was a bit of an ambush and two, she liked the Tai's. There was also a third reason, and it was that she would not be sleeping there often anyway so even if it was rushed, she was considering it a formality.
"Do you know the crazy part?" she asked. She looked at him and said with unmistakable sadness in her eyes. "It will be my first time in a long time, having a personal bedroom in a house with people who consider me family." She sighed and opened the box of chocolates Caishen had bought her.
She put one in her mouth and made herself comfortable on his shoulder again.
He squeezed her arm in comfort and said, "You have a bedroom in our home and we are family. No, two bedrooms because we also have a room in grandpa's house."
She rolled her eyes and laughed faintly. She understood what he meant but he didn't understand what she meant.
"I mean a personal bedroom, like my own room. I was thrown to the servants bedroom and my room was turned into Billi's personal music room."
She didn't need to elaborate further because he knew her life story like the back of his hand by now. Rather than letting her drown in sorrowful memories, he chose to distract her.
"So you want to sleep alone, without me. Wow, Lin Alix, I thought you liked me." He withdrew his hand from her shoulders and nudged her away from his body.
"Hubby," she grabbed his hand and held on. "What are you talking about? I wanna sleep with you for the rest of our lives."
He closed his eyes and shook his head. Additionally, he folded his arms across his chest and turned his head the other way.
"Really, are you sulking?" she asked him.
She moved her head from side to side, trying to get around him so that she could take a closer look at his face.
"Boyfriend, my cute hubby. How can I not like sleeping in our bed? I like you more than anyone in the world. Hubby do you you know that you are my first love?"
Caishen did not have a sore throat, and he wasn't drinking or eating anything, but somehow he ended up being choked by air and he suddenly coughed continuously while slapping his chest.
Alix lightly slapped his back the same way he way he was beating his chest. "Ooh, hubby, did I frighten you?"
He took in some deep measured breaths, in and out slowly. As his heart settled down, he started to laugh. She never ceased to surprise him at the most unexpected moments.
"Did I surprise you? Hubby, I am sure that I told you about this before."
He raised his eyebrows and smiled from one side of his face. Right, he recalled her claiming that her feelings had not been investigated.
"I think this was your turn to try and kill me. How could you mention such at that exact moment? It's my turn to sulk. I demand chocolates and flowers."
She stuck her tongue out at him like a child, "Ho, you are taking revenge on me. Zhang Caishen, you are quite a sly man."
"Not as sly as you." he responded.
Her phone rung so she abandoned his arm and turned to rummage through her back.
Unwarranted, the system which had been quiet all morning decided to chime in. "Your brother's mother is calling. Should I tell you why?"
She blinked and looked at the virtual screen. The blue elf was smiling smugly. It was also sunbathing, like a human which Alix chose not to comment on. The blue elf was bizarre and always did all sorts of things.
"Hello," she answered the call.
On the other end of the call, the woman replied in a hard voice. "It's me, Meifen."
"Yes, I am surprised to be hearing from you this soon. Is something wrong or have you decided which side to pick?" Alix replied.
Meifen took a deep breath on her end. Alix heard it loud and clear. It was the kind of breath one took before making a life changing decision or trying to calm themselves. Then she asked, "How soon can you help me move and give me that new job?"
"Tomorrow." Alix replied, confidently. "What happened? I can hear it in your voice. Did Jing Hee come and find you? Or was it Billi?"
"Such things would not be enough to frighten me into leaving." Meifen declared.
Alix didn't this one bit. Meifen was good at holding her own in verbal battle. She could not be counted out in a physical battle too, judging by the way she was wielding that bat or fended her father off the last time. Something else must have happened to instill fear in her.
What do you think?
