Chapter 603: Return to Ling Family Old Mansion
Chapter 603: Chapter 603: Return to Ling Family Old Mansion
At three o’clock in the afternoon, Ling Ruonan sent a message to Luo Ziling, asking him to wait for her near the school around four o’clock.
Luo Ziling naturally agreed and shamelessly skipped class again. He missed the last Marxism-Leninism lesson and left early for his dorm room to dress up before rushing to the school gate to wait for Ling Ruonan.
To avoid drawing attention, Luo Ziling purposely waited at a place far from the school and sent Ling Ruonan the location.
At three fifty-eight, Ling Ruonan’s motorcade appeared in Luo Ziling’s sight.
After the motorcade stopped, Luo Ziling quickly got into the car, and the motorcade continued moving, almost without giving the feeling of a pause.
“Mom, you didn’t run into anything unpleasant today, did you?” Luo Ziling asked quietly, noticing Ling Ruonan’s somewhat stern expression, “Or did someone bully you?”
“How could that be?” Ling Ruonan shook her head, “Just busy and a bit tired, everything is very calm. Let’s go to the old mansion to treat the great grandfather.”
Hearing Ling Ruonan say this, Luo Ziling did not ask further but started some small talk, including his visit to treat Fang Dongxun at noon today.
Ling Ruonan also inquired briefly but did not say much.
Originally, she thought being on good terms with Fang Zhonghua would bring them a lot of benefits, but after Luo Ziling’s outburst yesterday, everything seemed less significant. Therefore, she wasn’t very concerned about Luo Ziling treating Fang Dongxun.
Seeing Ling Ruonan not in high spirits and with fatigue written all over her face, Luo Ziling felt a bit heartbroken and urged her to rest early tonight and have a good sleep. He promised that once back home, he would go over and give her a massage to ensure she slept well.
Ling Ruonan, knowing her expression was a bit unusual, quickly smiled in appreciation and accepted Luo Ziling’s suggestion, agreeing to let him give her a good massage later when they got back.
Soon, the motorcade arrived at the Ling Family Old Mansion.
Unlike the bustling scene of yesterday, the old mansion looked very quiet today. There were no other members of the Ling Family around, just a few staff members.
The secretary Huang Chen, whom they had met the day before, came up to greet Luo Ziling and Ling Ruonan as soon as he saw them, telling them that the great grandfather was in the study and asking them to go there.
When they arrived yesterday, Ling Jinhua was lying in the bedroom bed, but surprisingly today, after all that turmoil, his spirits seemed not to have worsened and he could read in the study. Ling Ruonan was quite surprised.
When the mother and son arrived at Ling Jinhua’s study, indeed, they saw him wearing reading glasses and flipping through a notebook.
Upon their arrival, he called them in right away.
“Grandfather, you seem to be in much better spirits than yesterday,” Ling Ruonan said with a smile as she walked over to Ling Jinhua, speaking softly, “But you still need to make sure you rest.”
“Your son’s medical skills are really something. I felt much better after the treatment yesterday. I’m beginning to suspect that those previous doctors were deliberately messing with me,” Ling Jinhua said jokingly and then stood up, “Let’s eat first, then you can treat me after the meal.”
“Great Grandfather, you still need to pay attention to your recuperation,” Luo Ziling said with a bit of embarrassment, not wanting to call him ‘Great Grandfather’, he chose a more generic term, “It’s the same for everyone, health depends on nurturing. When you are ill, it is about thirty percent treatment and seventy percent care.”
“So, you refuse to call me great grandfather?” Ling Jinhua said with a smirk, looking at Luo Ziling, “After yesterday’s incident, we didn’t blame you, and you still have such a temper?”
“A gentleman can be killed but not humiliated. Even a person of low status has his pride,” Luo Ziling said proudly, looking at Ling Jinhua, “I don’t think I did anything wrong. It was they who wanted to ruin your birthday mood, so they deliberately provoked me, which led to what happened. Also, what I said to you were my true thoughts, that’s how I felt—not the slightest bit sorry… Moreover, if anyone calls me a bastard again, I will still not hesitate to teach him a lesson and make him understand that insulting others comes with a price.”
“Look at your son,” Ling Jinhua pointed at Luo Ziling, his eyes on Ling Ruonan, and said with a laugh, “Truly unyielding even when he’s right.”
“Grandpa, he just has this stubborn temperament, like his father, and like me, too. He’s young and full of vigor, and he feels aggrieved. That’s why he can’t turn the corner,” Ling Ruonan said, giving Luo Ziling a look, then whispered lower, “Ling’er, call him Great Grandfather. You spoiled his birthday celebration yesterday, so you must make a proper apology today.”
After thinking it over, Luo Ziling reluctantly called out “Great Grandfather” and reflected on his impulsive actions from the previous day, yet he still stubbornly stated that he couldn’t tolerate any insult from the Ling family.
Ling Jinhua just smiled and didn’t say much, gesturing to Ling Ruonan to help him up and go out to have dinner together.
Ling Ruonan obediently stepped forward to assist, and after hesitating for a moment, Luo Ziling also went over to hold onto Ling Jinhua’s other arm, and the three of them headed together towards the dining room.
Today, Ling Jinhua’s attitude had greatly relieved Ling Ruonan; it seemed the old patriarch wouldn’t hold their yesterday’s actions against them for the time being.
When they entered the dining room, the table was already set with dishes and bowls, as well as a bottle of Yuezhou Yellow Wine.
“Will you join me for a drink tonight?” After sitting down, Ling Jinhua pointed to the Yuezhou Old Wine and said to Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling, “You didn’t join me for a drink yesterday, so let’s make up for it today.”
Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling did not refuse and exchanged a glance before agreeing.
But Luo Ziling still reminded Ling Jinhua not to drink too much. @@novelbin@@
“I’ll just have two cups,” Ling Jinhua held up two fingers, “I can’t handle more than that anyway.”
He did indeed keep his promise, having one cup with each Luo Ziling and Ling Ruonan.
The old man’s appetite had already decreased significantly; he only ate half a small bowl of rice.
“Great Grandfather, if your appetite recovers to the point where you can eat two bowls in a meal, then my treatment will have achieved the best effect.” When Ling Jinhua put down his rice bowl, Luo Ziling said with a smile, “I believe you can reach that level of appetite, and your health can be restored.”
“Alright, I hope you can create a miracle.” Ling Jinhua didn’t doubt Luo Ziling’s words, but nodded seriously.
“I guarantee that there will definitely be miraculous surprises that will impress you, or I’ll accept whatever punishment you choose.”
“Good,” Ling Jinhua laughed heartily, “I like confident kids like that.”
Seeing the old and the young speaking harmoniously, Ling Ruonan breathed another sigh of relief.
Noticing that Ling Jinhua didn’t seem to hold any blame, Luo Ziling also relaxed.
Anyhow, the way Ling Jinhua treated him significantly reduced the pressure on both mother and son.
After finishing dinner and having some tea, sharing a few words in casual conversation, Ling Ruonan and Luo Ziling helped Ling Jinhua back to the bedroom.
Throughout their dinner and return to the bedroom, only Secretary Huang Chen came over to help out a bit, and no one else disturbed them too much.
Once in the bedroom and after making sure Ling Jinhua was lying down on the bed, the old man instructed Ling Ruonan to go out first, so he could receive treatment from Luo Ziling alone.
Ling Ruonan knew that Ling Jinhua surely wanted to speak with Luo Ziling in private, so she obediently left.
On her way out, she cast several meaningful glances at Luo Ziling, signaling him not to be impulsive again.
What do you think?
