Chapter 674: Huge Surprise
Chapter 674: Chapter 674: Huge Surprise
(Chapter 10)
Wang Zhenjun had already contacted Yang Xiaodong early on. Once Luo Ziling and Yang Xiaodong left the neighborhood where Ouyang Feifei resided, Yang contacted him again, specifying the place for their meeting. Eventually, the three of them met up at a late-night dining spot.
The location was chosen by Wang Zhenjun—an isolated booth in a barbecue restaurant.
By the time Luo Ziling and Yang Xiaodong arrived at the barbecue spot, Wang Zhenjun was already seated in the booth, which had decent soundproofing, gorging himself on food. He looked as if a starving ghost had reincarnated, with a heap of freshly grilled food in front of him, as well as several bottles of beer and soft drinks. Upon seeing Luo Ziling and Yang Xiaodong enter, he immediately beckoned them to sit down and eat.
“I’m starved, I didn’t even have dinner. I work way too hard,” Wang Zhenjun complained as he ate, “I thought that coming to the big city meant I’d never have to worry about food or drink, but here I am, going hungry.”
“Heh, following the young master here, I’ve got food, drinks, beauties to gaze at, even to flirt with. I’m living the life compared to you,” Yang Xiaodong took the opportunity to throw a couple jabs at Wang Zhenjun before adding mysteriously, “It seems like the boss was right, coming to Yanjing for this mission, we might just settle our life’s big matter.”
...
“There’s something like that?” Luo Ziling looked at Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun in surprise, “Did my father really issue such an order?”
“Heh, he just told us to seize the opportunity, said there are plenty of beauties here anyway,” Yang Xiaodong wolfed down the food, speaking mid-chew, “So we’re prepared to take any chance we get—for lifelong happiness, for a lifetime of bliss, you have to figure out a way. Comrade young master, you have to help us out—if we take a fancy to any lady, you’ve got to help us play matchmaker.”
Seeing how excited the two guys were when they spoke about this made Luo Ziling second-guess if they were impostors. How else could they act this premier? But he quickly dismissed the thought because Wang Zhenjun started talking business.
After finishing off the heap of barbecue in front of him and wiping his greasy mouth with a napkin, Wang Zhenjun finally spoke with an air of mystery, “Comrade young master, the matter is almost figured out.”
Upon hearing Wang Zhenjun say this, Luo Ziling was instantly excited, quickly finishing a skewer of grilled meat he was holding and wiping his own hands with a napkin. He then asked in a low voice, “What’s going on?”
“The man behind the scenes should be someone named Lin Jiaming,” Wang Zhenjun took out a strangely shaped handheld computer from his backpack, powered it on, then plugged in something Luo Ziling didn’t recognize before opening a file, “This is the MAC and IP information of the computer that sent the email. Through the data from that computer, I was able to find all the surveillance footage at that time point and spotted the person who sent the email.”
At this point, Wang Zhenjun had an expression of pride: “The computer used to send the email belonged to a secretary, and the email was set to send automatically. The person thought they could fool anyone chasing them, but they underestimated us. Using the surveillance footage, I quickly identified the person sending the email. By tracing this person’s movements, I discovered whom they were frequently contacting.”
Originally, Wang Zhenjun wanted to keep them in suspense, but seeing Luo Ziling frowning, he immediately revealed the final answer: “The person who wrote the email is named Wu Zejun, he is the personal assistant of the man called Lin Jiaming. I also tracked down their communication during that period and found they were in frequent contact.”
Luo Ziling interjected with a question, “Can you access all of Lin Jiaming’s communication records during that time?”
“Comrade young master, you’re really underestimating us with that question,” Wang Zhenjun spoke with a look of indignation as if offended, “If I can’t even handle such a small task, it would be a stain on my reputation. I can pull up your communication records with anyone, by any means; even your WeChat chats can be searched unless you delete them.”
“Really that impressive?” Luo Ziling looked at Wang Zhenjun with some astonishment, “Can you also trace secure phone calls?”
“It’s only a bit more difficult, nothing impossible,” said Wang Zhenjun with an indifferent face. “It’s just that secure communication channels are basically not checked unless absolutely necessary, which could cause trouble. Every important unit has technical experts with skills like mine, and I don’t want to compete with them. It’s too brain-draining.”
“Okay, I got what you mean,” Luo Ziling didn’t ask further, only instructed Wang Zhenjun. “Tell me all the details, and give me Lin Jiaming and all his communication records. Ideally, I’d also like his whereabouts, including who he associates with and where he’s been these past few days.”
“I’ve got it all prepared for you, knowing you’d need it,” Wang Zhenjun took out a small hard drive from his pocket and handed it to Luo Ziling. “Everything you need is in here, and some things that will surprise you, much more than you’d expect.”
“What kind of things?”
“Some shady deeds Lin Jiaming has done within the company. He’s had people sniff around for traces of sensitive data involving your mother’s company. I’m just not sure if you’ll understand it,” Wang Zhenjun said with an unavoidable smirk. “You need a certain level of computer knowledge to understand it.”
Luo Ziling was immediately annoyed, contemptuously addressed by his subordinate in his face. He retorted firmly, “I don’t need to see these things. I just want the results. Just tell me the final results.”
When Luo Ziling spoke, he maintained a strong presence. Wang Zhenjun dared not continue to fool around and quickly summed up, “This matter should be planned by Lin Jiaming. He has multiple mobile numbers and has been in frequent contact with someone named Ling Haining, at least in the last two days. After synthesizing all the information, I can conclude that Lin Jiaming is behind this, and Ling Haining is involved too.”
“Okay, I understand,” Luo Ziling had suspected Ling Haining or Lin Jiaming was behind it when the incident occurred. Now that Wang Zhenjun confirmed it, he wasn’t surprised at all.
He guessed it was either Lin Jiaming or Ling Haining. If the final investigation revealed it was neither of them, only then would he be surprised.
After quickly polishing off some more barbecue, Luo Ziling stood up and said to Yang Xiaodong and Wang Zhenjun, who also stood up, “I’m going to my mom’s place now to talk to her about this. If you still need to investigate further, then keep looking into it. If not, come with me.”
“This matter is already mostly investigated,” Wang Zhenjun immediately replied. “But the incident at your school last time hasn’t been completely cleared up. I’ll continue to investigate that. Let Snow Sculpture go with you to see your sister-in-law. Also, I didn’t bring any money, so you two cover the barbecue bill for today.”
With that, he didn’t wait for Luo Ziling to reply and took off.
As he left, he also took a large portion of the unfinished barbecue with him.
“I didn’t bring any money either,” Yang Xiaodong shrugged his shoulders.
“…” Luo Ziling really wanted to grab the two guys and give them a good thrashing.
He had become their servant!
What do you think?
