Chapter 384 Report Problems Promptly
Gangwan North Station was indeed sealed off by the relevant organizations, but whether the entire subway station had collapsed was another matter.
Because the official response denied this incident, their meaning was that there was a conflict between the Gangwan North subway station and the underground sewage system, so emergency repairs were underway, but there had not been a collapse.
At least from the entrance of the subway station, there was indeed no sign of collapse, only that the area had been cordoned off by the police.
Conversely, this morning the traffic in Huangmu District of Yangcheng and the three adjoining urban districts had been paralyzed!
Because the authorities had not only blocked off the subway station but also sealed off three subway lines that would pass through Gangwan North Station and their related stops, this resulted in other trains being unable to run as well.
The subway incident happened in the middle of the night, and night owls discovered the news and avoided the area early on, but the early sleepers who were preparing to catch the subway to work were completely bewildered.
By the time they realized what was happening, the bus stops had already been occupied as well.
So this morning, a group of people were destined to miss their perfect attendance.
...
At dawn, wisps of blue smoke curled in the air.
Level two underground at Gangwan North Station.
Luo Kai lit a cigarette and leaned against the staircase entrance, puffing away, his eyes fixed on the thick blackness below the escalator.
After a while, an armed police officer passed over a stack of thick documents to him.
Luo Kai turned his head to look, then immediately felt a headache coming on.
He took a deep drag, burning the cigarette down, then stubbed it out saying, "It'll take me ages to go through all this; just tell me straight – you've looked through the documents, haven't you?"
The police officer was taken aback by the question, then turned to look at the sweat-drenched secretary who was running towards them.
Luo Kai pointed straight at the stack of documents and asked the secretary, "How many of these are about Gangwan North?"
Luckily, the secretary responsible for finding the documents had some understanding. He pulled out a folder from the stack held by the police officer and hastily said, "During the construction of line 14, there was a construction site accident, and three workers were unfortunate enough to lose their lives."
Luo Kai nodded, gesturing for him to continue.
"In 2009, due to equipment failure and untimely exchange of information, two trains collided, injuring hundreds and killing one.
"In 2011, due to elevator malfunction and reverse operation, there was a congestion trampling accident, resulting in one death.
"Finally, last March, a man committed suicide by lying on the subway tracks.
"That, those are all the fatal accidents since the opening of Gangwan North subway station. If you need other documents related to this line..."
The lead secretary hesitated and glanced at the stack of documents.
Luo Kai looked at the dark circles around his eyes—working overnight to find documents was indeed hard work. He could empathize, but now he could command people openly and legitimately.
"Continue," Luo Kai said heartlessly with a wave of his hand.
It wasn't that he wanted to exploit people, but the sooner he understood these matters, the better. He wasn't sure if the dark mass in the subway would undergo other mutations if he delayed too long.
Based on his experience in that remote village the night before last, he thought that the monster's abilities would somehow be related to the mutated people.
For example, the woman who was sold into the boondocks and tragically suffered through child-making became a monster whose ability was to create the illusion of pregnancy, devouring flesh and blood to make babies, and then absorb those forces to nourish herself.
A typical "You all want babies, huh? Keep breeding for me!" vengeful ability.
When Luo Kai initially charged in to fight, he didn't understand fully and nearly got his flesh and blood eroded to make babies, fortunately his blood was special and underwent Purification.
Now that a strange incident had suddenly occurred in Yangcheng, Luo Kai immediately deduced by analogy and planned to investigate what abilities the monster might have before confronting it.@@novelbin@@
Oh right, he also needed to find that guy to help lure the monster.
"Commander!"
At that moment, someone came running down hurriedly from above and, after giving a salute, said something to the document-holding police officer.
The police officer, after listening, immediately turned to look at Luo Kai and said, "The girl who was rescued last night, she's woken up." Find more to read at My Virtual Library Empire
Luo Kai's eyes lit up, "Then I'm heading over now!"
He didn't wait to hear more about the documents and left the subway station at once.
When the subway accident was discovered last night, the authorities had rescued an ordinary person who was half dead inside the subway and immediately sent her to the hospital for emergency treatment.
In Luo Kai's view, that girl who had narrowly escaped death must know something!
Being able to escape from an area eroded by the Abyss meant she could not be just an ordinary person, she might even be a script player!
...
Yangcheng First People's Hospital.
The girl who awoke lay quietly on the bed, her gaze blankly fixed ahead, showing no focus in her eyes.
A nurse tried to speak to her in a low voice, but the girl gave no response, only occasionally trembling unconsciously as if suppressing something.
When she was brought in last night, doctors had worked for hours to save her. They managed to revive a girl who seemed to have died several times over due to her shattered organs and fractured limbs.
In any other situation, this would have been considered a medical miracle!
However, as the doctors worked to save her, they realized the girl's healing abilities were incredibly powerful, and her wounds were largely healing on their own!
If it weren't for the girl's special circumstances at the moment, they would have been quite interested in studying her normally.
When Luo Kai arrived at the hospital, he saw the girl sitting on the bed with a vacant look, her consciousness seeming adrift.
He waved his hand, signaling for others to leave the ward.
"What happened on the subway last night? Can you tell me about it in detail?" Luo Kai pulled over a chair, sat down beside her as if he'd done so many times before, and began to ask.
Yet the girl didn't respond.
Luo Kai wasn't annoyed and continued, "We need to find a way to eliminate the monster from the subway, or it might affect the outside world."
As his words fell, the girl on the bed seemed to suddenly come back to her senses, her eyes moved slightly, and she turned to look at him.
Luo Kai calmly met her gaze until the girl's eyes regained their sparkle.
After a long pause, Shao Dandan spoke, "Is there anything to eat? That nurse has been chattering all day, and she didn't even give me a bite to eat."
Luo Kai: "..."
Self-healing consumed a great deal of energy. Though the hospital had put her on a drip upon realizing this, Shao Dandan still felt very hungry.
Eventually, the two of them ate something in the ward together—Luo Kai hadn't had breakfast either.
"Can you now tell me what exactly happened last night?" Luo Kai asked while eating.
"I was killed several times," Shao Dandan said softly.
"What?" Luo Kai was stunned.
"That damn monster dragged me onto the tracks, then it ran me over with the train, over and over again! Again and again! And it would start all over after each time…"
As she spoke, Shao Dandan's gaze turned grim and frightening, exuding a gloomy and fearful aura. She tore at the square toast in her hand, her clenched fingertips trembling to the point of turning white.
Luo Kai frowned slightly, "If you don't calm down, you might be contaminated."
As he spoke, Shao Dandan suddenly snapped back to reality, grabbed the soy milk beside her and gulped it down, then took a deep breath.
Seeing her reaction, Luo Kai had an inkling of understanding.
"Do you know what abilities that monster has?" he asked directly.
"Time loop, plus it seems it can operate a train, if that counts. I couldn't make out any other abilities," Shao Dandan said.
"What did the monster look like?"
"It looked like a hairless zombie, oh, like the one from 'American Horror Story.' When it went mad, many thin legs with barbs would extend from its back, you could consider it a long-legged spider. It moved very fast and its shriek was high-pitched, like... a whistle sound?"
"How did you manage to escape then?"
Luo Kai suddenly asked this question.
Instantly, Shao Dandan's frantic eating stopped.
After a long silence, she said, "It got bored of me. I took advantage of its lax moment and saw lights above the elevator. I just kept running towards them until I remembered nothing else. The next thing I knew, I was waking up here in the hospital."
Luo Kai nodded thoughtfully.
Gangwan North Station was busy with large passenger traffic, boasting three levels in total. When something went wrong on the lowest level, a worker on the first underground level who noticed something amiss courageously went to investigate.
Because he remembered not turning off the power, yet the third underground level was dark and chillingly eerie.
Holding his flashlight, he shone it for a long time but couldn't see anything in the darkness.
It was then, as the girl rushed out from the darkness along the escalator and collapsed in front of him, that the worker decided against going down to check and instead chose to evacuate the site and call the police immediately!
Subsequently, the official forces took control of Gangwan North Station.
