These Demons Do it for Free

Chapter 80

The necromancer's magic is incredibly simple.

By simply imbue his words with intent and mana, he twists the laws of the world.

Gods and demons. Divine arts and demonic arts draw power from beings that existed in the outer world even before true mysteries came to be. If there’s any mystery that was born after those, it would undoubtedly be the art of necromancy.

Words hold power. This belief has existed throughout history, across cultures.

In fact, the foundations of this mystery later serve as the basis for wizards chanting incantations or martial artists calling out their techniques. Doing so amplifies their power.

However, because this structure is so simple, there are also straightforward methods to counter it.

For lower-level necromancers, simply covering your ears can neutralize their magic. As a result, those necromancers often choose not to directly command their targets but apply their spells to a third party for indirect attacks—like saying, “Wind, become a blade.”

But what about higher-level necromancers?

The only one I know is Skyler Martin, the training center director. During the raid on the training center, he fought against the betrayer, the alchemist Lindsey, from outside. He said:

*[Alchemy cannot manifest now.]*

That was the end of it. Alchemy truly didn’t manifest.@@novelbin@@

The problem was that Lindsey had other tricks up her sleeve, but just from that, it was clear how absurd the magic of a skilled necromancer could be.

So what if Viola was faced with a threatening necromancer that made her serious? If he commanded me to die through necromancy, could I withstand it?

*[What a presumptuous little pest.]*
*[Who do you think you’re telling to die, you fool?]*

Hmm… I might be able to hold on.

I recently learned that the contract isn’t just closed and opened by rational thought. It also reacts to instinct.
