This Beast-Tamer is a Little Strange

Chapter 452 Counter Corruption?

It wasn't only Harris who was experiencing this odd phenomenon of their foe suddenly turning and fighting alongside them.

All across the battlefield, small pockets of corrupted and abyssals—formerly ravenous and relentless—suddenly halted their assaults. Their glowing red eyes flickered with hesitation before they turned their claws and fangs on their own kind. The effect was slow, almost imperceptible amidst the chaos of war, but the change was undeniable.

Moreover, while the rate of conversion was nothing compared to the rapid speed of corruption that abyssals inflicted upon humans and spiritual creatures, it did seem as though those abyssals that turned were capable of turning others, although more often than not the other abyssals just died without turning.

Soldiers who had been on the verge of despair now found themselves with unexpected allies—albeit monstrous ones.

Benji, who had been using all of his energy to barely hold the defensive line, wiped the sweat from his brow as he witnessed another abyssal rip into its former comrades.@@novelbin@@

"Counter corruption? Anti-abyssal corruption?" He muttered, still trying to process what was happening. He needed a term for this, something that made sense.

But only Kain knew the true source behind this phenomenon.

Bea had made a breakthrough in her control abilities under the pressure and inspiration of abyssal energy.

Somewhere amidst the chaos, she had developed a new ability. Just like Aegis had learned to manipulate abyssal energy to strengthen himself, Bea had also found a way to assimilate it—altering some of the weaker abyssals to obey her instead. And now, like a virus in reverse, her influence was spreading, albeit at a fraction of the speed at which abyssals turned others. Kain clenched his fists, his mind racing at the implications, and also curious about the strange reactions all of his contract seemed to have to abyssal energy.

Unfortunately, while Bea could temporarily change the allegiance of the abyssal and corrupted, Kain didn't know how long this effect would last and it also wasn't a cure for those that already turned.

While the tides of the battle on the ground were constantly shifting back and forth. The battle between demigods raged in the skies above, a clash of titanic power that shook the heavens and sent shockwaves cascading down to the war-torn ground below.

Unfortunately, even though some had managed to avoid being killed by the opposite side, they would instantly turn into vapor by a stray attack launched by one of the fighting demigods.

Unfortunately, it was nearly impossible to dodge these errant strikes. Blinding arcs of black and red spiritual energy clashed, the sheer magnitude and speed of their battle beyond mortal comprehension.

Yet, amidst their struggle, the abyssal demigods suddenly hesitated, and in that brief moment of distraction, a massive dragon claw almost sent one of his arms flying, while he hurriedly snapped back into focus and dodged.

His piercing, abyssal gaze shifted downward, focusing intently on the battlefield below. Down there was something…unpleasant.

Something that made him even more disgusted than this human demigod in front of him.

Something that, while he could sense it was physically weak, still gave him a vaguely threatened feeling.

The presence was subtle, barely detectable. But anything that could even vaguely make him feel a threat needed to be paid attention to. He hadn't felt alarmed in centuries, possibly even millenia.

Unfortunately, it was difficult to sense the origin of this feeling, its presence seeming to be spread out throughout the battlefield.

He continued to hurriedly dodge the opponents strikes as he examined the battles going on below and the occasional abyssal or corrupted that suddenly changed its allegiance.

Logically, he should focus on his current battle. After all, the speed of the abyssal below turning was so slow that it hardly made a difference in the grand scheme of things. It was like removing a drop of water from the ocean—they, the superior Abyssal army, still had the capacity to 'drown' their opponents.

But even a drop lost was unacceptable. And unheard of. Never before had someone escaped the control of the Great Mother, even temporarily.

And worse—he could vaguely sense that the speed of this counter-conversion was increasing.

The more that turned, the more they seemed capable of spreading this influence further.

A snarl formed on his lips, his abyssal energy flaring as his fury grew.

"This cannot be allowed."

He prepared to descend, ready to annihilate whatever was responsible for this contamination before it could fester. Whatever force could resist the Great Mother—no, even begin to corrupt the Great Mother's 'blessing'—needed to be eradicated at all costs.

Just as the abyssal demigod began to move, a fiery force intercepted him.

A shimmering barrier of radiating intense heat erupted in his path, halting his descent with an ear-splitting boom as the abyssal demigod knocked into it.

The city lord—his presence like a beacon amidst the darkness—hovered before him, his expression unreadable.

"Your opponent is right here," the city lord stated calmly, though the authority in his voice left no room for argument.

The abyssal demigod narrowed his eyes, his form bristling with hostility. The insect, this heathen, who was trying to prevent him from spreading the Great Mother's benevolent grace and blessings was once again standing in his way!

The city lord remained silent for a moment, his gaze flickering downward, analyzing the battlefield. He could see it too—the strange phenomenon spreading ever so slowly. He did not yet know the cause, nor whether it was truly an advantage or a hidden danger, but for now…

"As long as it benefits us," the city lord murmured to himself, his expression unchanging, "I will allow it to continue…for now"

The abyssal demigod let out a low growl of frustration. He knew he could not take action without first defeating the demigod opposite.

Moreover, as he continued to fight the opposing demigod, and even severely wounded the armoured giant on the opposite side, his unease did not fade.

Something was changing the abyssal below.

And whatever was causing it… could not be left alive.
