Chapter 25 - 25 25 Program Broadcast
Chapter 25: Chapter 25 Program Broadcast Chapter 25: Chapter 25 Program Broadcast Wu Feng noticed Wu Mu didn’t understand, so he reminded him, “The Xinghai Mobile that sued you before is a subsidiary of Star Electronics.”
Xinghai Mobile?
Wu Mu was taken aback, for he was familiar with that brand—it was the first to announce the termination of their contract with him, and later directly sued him.
But he held no grudge against the company, they were just in a plain brand-endorsers relationship.
And now a mobile company was coming out to try to ban him?
Wu Mu was completely baffled.
Wu Feng didn’t hide it, “Star Electronics contacted our station manager, demanding that we eliminate you in the next episode, and forbid us from ever using you again.”
Wu Mu furrowed his brows. He had always thought that whether Xinghai Mobile terminated the contract or sued him, it was just normal business behavior.
But now it seemed like they had a major grudge against him, intent on ruining his career.
When had he ever offended this company?
Wu Mu pondered for a while, temporarily paused the game on his phone, switched to the browser, and searched for information about Star Electronics Company.
Isn’t the owner surnamed Liu?
Wu Mu thought back and forth, feeling that his biggest connection to Star Electronics was through that mean woman, Liu Lan.
The endorsement with Xinghai Mobile was brokered by the company, brought to him when he was just one breath away from top-tier fame.
Honestly, such a major endorsement was quite unusual for him at that time, not just exceeding in scale but also in pay.
With his status back then, he normally couldn’t have landed such an endorsement deal, nor such a price.
So it must have been Liu Lan pulling strings behind the scenes.
His first thought was whether it was Liu Lan’s family business.
Although during his time with Liu Lan, she always avoided talking about her family, various details still made it clear that Liu Lan was definitely born into a wealthy second-generation family, not lacking money.
But the owner’s last name wasn’t Liu, so it couldn’t just be some ordinary relative making such big trouble over Liu Lan’s matter, could it?
Ruling out Liu Lan’s family background, what was left was… Liu Lan’s husband?
Wu Mu mumbled to himself.
If it was Liu Lan’s husband targeting him, that would not be surprising at all.
Who wouldn’t be furious being cuckolded, even if they knew they were deceived, they’d still want to stab him.
Not to mention Liu Lan using company money to sign contracts for “mistresses.”
Putting oneself in Liu Lan’s husband’s shoes, it was even more tragic than before, the blood pressure would skyrocket.
But these were all his speculations, whether true or not, he might only find out by calling Liu Lan personally.
But he didn’t want to have any more to do with that mean woman.
Seeing him form some guesses and clues, Wu Feng didn’t beat around the bush and said directly, “Just withdraw from the competition after the next round, Star Electronics has a huge influence in the Delta Cities, our station can’t afford to offend them.”
He fully thought Wu Mu, knowing the reason, would understand the TV station’s position, but unexpectedly…
Wu Mu flatly refused, “No way, I’m performing well, why should I drop out on my own. Don’t even think about manipulating behind the scenes to eliminate me, I’ll blow it up online when the time comes.”
Wu Feng’s brow furrowed instantly, “Wu Mu, this is pointless, I’m speaking to you in good faith.”
“Isn’t this trouble you brought upon yourself? Doesn’t our show team want you to stay?”
He wanted to say more, but seeing Wu standing there unfazed, he had a change of heart, “Name your price then.”
Wu Mu grinned and held up two fingers, “Twenty million, raise my episode fee to twenty million, and I’ll withdraw next time.”
Twenty million?
Wu Feng’s frown deepened, feeling that the price was too high.
Wu Mu persuaded him, “Producer Wu, actually, that amount isn’t high, considering our show has a total of nine episodes. If I record all, it adds up to eighteen million, if you’re asking me to withdraw, you have to compensate my loss right? Just an extra two million compensation, it’s quite a good deal.”
Wu Feng grimaced. Indeed, there were nine episodes, but did Wu Mu really think he could stay for all nine?
He still thought twenty million was too much, but he was genuinely worried about Wu Mu going online and creating a scandal.
Given his recent impression of Wu Mu, he definitely would do something like that, potentially causing a huge mess for their program, and the loss would be far more than twenty million.
And truthfully, the value Wu Mu brought to their show far exceeded twenty million, even just the recently added advertisements were higher than this.
So, after much hesitation, he finally nodded in agreement, “Okay, but you have to cooperate with us in promoting, keep the withdrawal confidential for now.”
This was their play to squeeze one last bit of popularity from him.
After settling the withdrawal matter, Wu Feng promptly left. Initially, he wanted to get closer to Wu Mu, thinking there might be opportunities for collaboration in the future.
But now, it seemed unnecessary, Wu Mu would eventually be banned after making a fuss.
“Sigh, why is it so difficult just to earn some points?”
Wu Mu sighed internally, even though he had earned twenty million, he didn’t feel happy.
He truly didn’t want to leave “Singer-songwriter,” if possible.
It was too comfortable earning points here!
Twenty million was literally just a couple of Performance Cards’ worth, he wondered how many such cards he could have earned if he completed all nine episodes.
Unfortunately, despite not wanting to, Star City TV was located within the Delta Cities, how could they afford to offend a local powerhouse like Star Electronics over his trouble?
Rather than end up in an unresolved mess, better to just take the money and leave.
Now, he only had the last episode left to earn points. Wu Mu started gaming again but found it tasteless, so he put his phone away and, with the new songs he had been “writing” these last few days, went to look for Mo Mo.
…
Time flew by swiftly.
Saturday night at seven fifty, the third episode of “Singer-songwriter” was about to air.
Beijing, Zhang Li’s apartment.
She and her best friend Han Yan were waiting in front of the TV, eager to watch the latest episode.
Her best friend Han Yan, also known online as “Die Wu Dog”.
Pouting, with a perpetually unhappy look, “Are we really going to watch Wu Dog’s show punctually? Aren’t we just contributing to his ratings, what kind of anti-fans are we?”
Zhang Li comforted her, “How can you know if he got eliminated without watching his show? What if he got eliminated this episode?”
After all, the show was recorded in Star City, and it wasn’t feasible for Zhang Li to take time off to watch it live every week, so she also didn’t know what happened during the third episode’s live recording, only TV could tell her.
She genuinely wasn’t sure if Wu Mu would be eliminated in the third round.
But her best friend Han Yan, a staunch anti-fan, was even more confident than her, “Come on, there’s no way he’ll get eliminated. If he were, rumors would have been flying everywhere already.”
That was indeed true. Given how many people were in the audience, if it were news like Wu Mu getting eliminated, rumors undoubtedly would have leaked, and it probably would have hit the trending searches several times.
What do you think?
