Chapter 32: The Shock from the Court of Judgement
"I am not satisfied with this answer."
The power of biological psychic energy twisted every cell of this Dark Eldar warrior captain's body, while countless thick, serpent-like nerves shot out from his body, piercing through the skull that had long been hollowed out.
This was a form of torture unbearable to any living being. The nerve signals that shredded every cell in his body were transmitted to the brain through the proliferating nerves.
Accompanied by the forcibly awakened consciousness, the victim’s soul would savor the amplified pain a thousandfold.
"Your strategic deployment, your objective, and who sent you here?"
The Judicator’s eyes gleamed as she skillfully maintained this critical state right when the opponent's body was on the verge of collapse and spoke.
"Ah... ahh—"
The painful wail lasted only a short while before transforming into a deep, guttural roar, which seemed to carry a sense of relief, like some sort of release.
"Little monkey, I've endured far worse pain than this, ah—this suffering, your methods are nowhere near as effective as the Blood Dancers, but it's still somewhat fresh. According to your monkeys' standards, I'd begrudgingly rate you as 'good'. Heh..."
The warrior captain tilted his head as his neck, bloated with forced nerve growth, immediately cracked, and a pain beyond description once again drew out a comfortable moan from the grotesque being whose appearance was no longer remotely humanoid. This caused the silver rose Sisters who had just entered the room to show expressions of revulsion, slightly raising the barrels of their Melta guns.
"..."
Facing this alien who seemed impervious to anything, the young Judicator found herself in a dilemma, and soon she simply increased the psychic energy output.
"Ah—just like that, let me feel the pain, ah—now I somewhat understand why those cowards who play with necromancy enjoy it. It turns out pain without blood can be so refreshing..."
Though his entire body screamed under the unbearable strain, the warrior captain’s soul seemed entirely unfazed, still taunting the Judicator who was torturing him.
"..."
The Judicator remained silent and once again raised the threshold, causing the warrior captain's body to swell even further.
Tissue fluids overflowed from his torn skin and ran along the ornate skull armor, then burst out in a violent explosion as the proliferating flesh was pierced by sharp edges.
Pff~
The mass of flesh, which could hardly be described as humanoid, began to twitch violently.
The Judicator once again retracted her psychic power.
"…I have something to say, come closer… I have something to say."
He suddenly whispered, his frail body unable to support his previously wild howls.
The Judicator exchanged a cautious glance with the Marshal, then moved forward.
"Answer my previous question!"
She commanded coldly, but as her words fell, the sensory feedback she was monitoring for bodily changes from the alien came in, prompting her to quickly dodge.
She tilted her head slightly, and a sharpened bone, turned into a blade, shot out from the warrior captain's throat, narrowly missing a few strands of her hair.
"I’ll come for you, little monkey."
The twisted, bloated body writhed, pressing against the golden hair that had fallen to the ground. The warrior captain’s eyes were fixed on the Judicator, as though he wanted to carve her face into his soul.
Puff!
At that moment, a sharp blade stabbed through the back of his head, piercing his skull.
In the Judicator’s eyes, the previously contemptuous gaze in his eyes finally gave way to the despair she had longed to see.
"Wait!"
"?!"
Arthur looked in confusion at the Judicator, who had ceased maintaining the spell, the blade of her sword firmly lodged in the alien's head.
However, the proliferating body structure began to collapse the instant the psychic support was lost, and the fragmented corpse stacked into a small mound of dirt, which was promptly shoveled away by a nearby servitor.
"Another xenos has exhausted its usefulness."
The Judicator glanced at the Sword Guard who had made the kill and wore a troubled expression.
She didn’t quite understand why, even when she had pushed the alien’s nerves to their limits, it could still hold out without speaking, and even seem to take pleasure in it, only to experience true fear at the moment of death.
"This is the last one."
The Marshal of the Black Chapel, who had been silently watching the alien, coldly reminded her from his side. The burning candles on his shoulder pads emitted a warm light, and the three golden studs on his forehead glittered.
In fact, within the sealed iron box behind them, another Dark Eldar had been completely deprived of all five senses and was imprisoned.
But everyone knew that this type of interrogation wouldn’t yield results quickly.
"Do you think the Dark Eldar we killed can be revived?"
Arthur tilted his head and looked at the three others, who were equally stunned.
They had entered the mechanical Ark alongside the Devouring Sharks, led by Tyberos.
The great sage Caul was supposed to meet them at this plaza, but he had not arrived yet, and instead, the newcomers had witnessed a typical M41-style interrogation of a Dark Eldar xenos.
And true to their reputation, these Dark Eldar seemed capable of summoning the most vile chaos gods, pushing their madness to the extreme.
The group exchanged glances, the bizarre atmosphere of this world leaving a strange sense of curiosity in the air.
The stereotype deepened.
"Referencing the demons we killed that came back after we killed them?"
Rameses was the first to recover.
"The part of them we killed will vanish, but the part that hasn’t touched us will retain no memory of this death."
"Mm."
Arthur nodded and flicked the tissue fluid off his sword blade.
"Was this some sort of show of force?"
Garna seemed a little taken aback.
"That would be a bit childish."
Romulus looked left and right, catching sight of the flayed skull insignia on the pieces of armor.
Heh, so it's a wealthy conspiracy group. No wonder even a warrior captain would be so fearless.
"Apologies."
The Judicator bowed, and the emblem of the Court of Judgement hung down as she lowered her head. Romulus could clearly see the reddish-brown stain on her cloak.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Judicator Aglaea Hessekhaud, from the Source Retrieval Order."
She gestured to the iron box behind her.
"As you can see, I am assisting the Lord of the Black Chapel in interrogating this xenos. Unfortunately, I am not specialized in this type of xenos and cannot offer any useful clues."
Arthur, holding his sword, stood coldly at the back of the group.
"Well, it seems our timing was quite fortunate."
Romulus immediately stepped forward to ease the tension.
"I believe our arrival can assist you in resolving this predicament. I am Captain of the Deathwatch Kill Team, Romulus."
"Thank you for your generous help."
Aglaea let out a sigh of relief.
It seemed the Deathwatch was easier to work with; at least they would treat her, a Judicator, with respect.
What do you think?
