This Isn’t an E*otic Game?

Chapter 31

After the early morning incident with Erfa,

I returned to my daily routine.

Of course, it wasn't entirely the same as before.

Occasionally, when I saw Erfa, she would wave at me with a face that seemed ecstatically happy, throw herself into my arms, and I would respond with a goofy grin.

Aside from that, not much had changed.

I was still healing the sick in the slums.

Occasionally, when called upon by the nobility, I would go and heal them too.

In return, the nobility would make donations or use their connections to introduce people who could help in the slums.

Life was peaceful and quiet.

Karma Company was doing well.

More than just doing well, it had become a company that received absolute support from the people of Slum District 3 because it had promised to provide elixirs at half price, creating numerous jobs.

Additionally, the clinic in the Mage Tower Temple was thriving.

Because of this, I no longer needed to see patients with simple ailments like colds or bruises.

Only patients with severe conditions that could not be healed by ordinary miracles or medicine were seen by me.

And with that change,

Life suddenly became much more leisurely.

I ate three meals a day and slept well.

The days of being too busy to blink an eye from seeing patients all day were over, and I now had time for leisurely walks.

The people of the slum were still diligently following my instructions, keeping the streets clean and well-managed.

They followed my words so well that on weekends, a tremendous number of people gathered on the grounds in front of the Mage Tower Temple for worship and left the place cleaner than before the service.

Slum District 3 was no longer the dirty and unsightly place it used to be.

Trees were planted, maintaining a pleasant aesthetic, and the squalid rat-infested shacks, overflowing with trash and mold, had been transformed into large, stylish housing complexes.

People worked, laughed, ate, and drank with hope.

Children started going to school, and after finishing their day, people visited bathhouses to wash up and returned home with happy smiles.

As I walked the streets, everyone recognized me and greeted me.

The poor people of Slum District 3 were now mostly followers of Lilia.

Everyone revered and worshipped me.

I had gotten so used to it that it just felt normal now.

Of course, it wasn't a bad feeling.

At this point, my thoughts turned to conviction.

I've increased the followers.@@novelbin@@

I've enriched the Lilia Church.

I've purified the slums.

I've raised the influence among the nobility.

I've done it all, right?

Craaack! Just like that, faith normalized.

This must surely move the goddess enough to spare me.

And personally, I too wanted to continue this work, if only I could be assured of no divine punishment.

I found another use for those trashy adult game skills I thought were good for nothing but lewd acts.

Money was piling up astronomically.

Everyone respected me, and on top of that...

I even had a woman who had kissed me.

Right.

They say if the chicken shop you opened for undercover police work does well, you might as well quit the police and run the shop.

I'm not going to try to escape anymore.

"Of course, I should attend. When is the banquet?"

"In three days."

"I understand."

I'll just wear my clerical robes to go. No need for uncomfortable formal attire like a tuxedo—really, it’s perfect.

Ah.

It feels so peaceful.

Yeah.

Why try to escape?

If things have turned out this well, it must be fate. Just embrace becoming a real saint and live that way.

*****

Three days later, the banquet was held.

Nobles and dignitaries, dressed in their finest attire, filled the interior of the temple. Even the highest-ranking person in the country, the Emperor himself, was present.

"It is an honor to meet you, Your Majesty."

The Emperor of the Empire, Theovillo von Arcale, had come to seek me out personally. Known for his stern image in his 50s, he always appeared serious in the newspapers.

Yet, there he was, smiling contentedly for the first time I'd ever seen, stopping me from bowing hastily, taking my hand, and gently kissing the back of it.

"Human glory is fleeting, but the grace of the Goddess is eternal. The honor is mine, Saint Amayel."

His words were polite and dignified, his actions calm yet commanding. This was charisma in its purest form, naturally felt by just standing beside him.

"I am not well-versed in protocol, and I hope you will forgive any missteps."

"It would be odd to fuss over protocol with someone as noble as you. I have wanted to meet you, Saint of the Slums."

I felt my pride soar at the Emperor's acknowledgment.

Had I ever been on a clearer path to success?

My life seemed set on a trajectory of uninterrupted success.

"In honor of the first Healer Saint to appear in 300 years, the ruler of the Human Empire presents a modest gift."

The time for gifts began.

Starting with an exquisite grandfather clock from the Emperor, various attendees presented their gifts. Some gave cars, others fine tea leaves. The pile of luxury gifts brought tears to my eyes.

In my entire life, both in Korea and the Arkal Empire, had I ever been recognized and celebrated like this?

For the first time, I thought my reincarnation had been a good decision. I used to think there was no worse isekai reincarnation than mine, burdened with useless adult game skills and a worthless prophecy ability.

I had even thought being a VTuber in Korea might be a better path.

Who could have predicted it would turn out this well?

"Thank you all. I will ensure these gifts are used not just for my benefit but for the happiness of everyone."

It felt right to say such a line as I prepared to fully embrace my role as a saint. Some gifts were too extravagant for personal use. I thought distributing them to those in need or decorating the Mage Tower Temple for everyone to enjoy might be better.

The crowd applauded.

It felt right.

This was what being a saint was about!

The banquet continued long into the evening with laughter, conversations, eating, and drinking.

As it wound down, like all events do, I prepared to leave the hall for my room.

"Saint of Healing, a moment please."

Hmm?

These were the people I'd seen from the Pantheon.

"Grand Prelate Zerva of the Prophecy Order greets you, Seer and Apostle of Grace. May the temple built on this land be forever glorious."

Ah, right! People from the Prophecy Order, worshipers of the future god Lupiel, who had turned me into a seer.

"Nice to meet you, Grand Prelate Zerva. What brings you here?"

"We have yet to present our gift."

As they spoke, they offered a truly fitting gift.

"Lupiel has bestowed a new prophecy for the saint. May we speak privately? Prophecies are traditionally revealed only to the concerned parties."

A prophecy?

Well, let's hear it.

I'm curious about my future.

"Of course, Grand Prelate Zerva. Let's go to my room."

I led Zerva to my room without much thought, locked the door, and instructed High Priest Yodel that no one should enter.

"Let me convey Lupiel's prophecy. I will lose consciousness briefly. The words of Lupiel within me will speak directly to you."

"Please proceed."

As soon as Zerva closed his eyes, his body shook, and then his eyes opened, glowing pure white, with a radiant golden light in the shape of an eye blazing between his eyebrows.

[Human,]

A voice not of this world emanated from him, chilling and divine.

[I shall speak of your future. This is a prophecy directly from the Seer; it shall surely come to pass.]

I listened intently, a mix of excitement and anxiety.

Surely, after all this, it wouldn't end with divine retribution from the goddess, struck down by lightning.

That would have happened by now.

No, it couldn't be.

I was considering taking up faith, and I had diligently cared for the poor and weak.

Let's confirm this once and for all.

It would be better to just relax.

As I was contemplating this, the ominous voice began to recite the prophecy.

[You, elevated in the name of grace, you who are deluded. You deny and flee, yet you cannot escape your fate. You, from another world, ignorant and foolish, who will continue to suffer alone. The powers you wield are vile and low.]

The smile faded.

A statement that pierced to my core froze me.

Could this be a bad prophecy?

No, it couldn't be.

Please...

[On the day your deepest secrets are revealed, you shall die by the hands of those who love you. Death will come upon you in your happiest moment, and you will not be able to escape it.]

A chill ran through me.
