Chapter 77: Chapter 077 No Regrets

Had this female corpse absorbed his life force to resurrect herself?

Chen Ke was shocked. He slowly backed away, gripping the straight sword in his hand, although direct intuition told him that the sword was utterly useless against this female corpse.

The red line around her neck vanished without a trace as if time had reversed. When the scar completely disappeared, the chains wrapped around her arms shockingly all slid to the ground. Her arms hung by her sides, starting to tremble slightly.

The air around became hot and dry, and Chen Ke was sure that the temperature was coming from the female figure before him—who could no longer be simply described as a “corpse,” as Chen Ke watched her slowly stand up. She stretched out her right arm, conjuring an orange orb out of thin air, then reached into it and pulled out a two-handed sword!

The blade of the sword was not wide but incredibly thin, yet its length was astonishing—it was clearly meant to be wielded with two hands. The blade was adorned with gorgeous patterns, and the hilt was wrapped with a red ribbon, with a guard that resembled a cross.

Chen Ke was in a panic. Was the woman in front of him intending to fight him to the bitter end?

...

While Chen Ke was pondering how to escape, the woman opened her eyes. Her pupils were blood-red, looking at Chen Ke with hesitation, sorrow, and a resolute expression.

The woman, holding the longsword with one hand, took measured steps towards Chen Ke, barefoot. Her white off-shoulder dress billowed with the hot air swirling around her, and strands of flames emanated from nowhere, twining around her arms, thighs, and waist, yet without scorching her clothes.

At this moment, in Chen Ke’s vision appeared a line of text beneath the woman’s feet: Phoenix Princess Faralis

This information was as good as none, merely revealing to Chen Ke the woman’s name without any associated descriptors.

However, it confirmed Chen Ke’s guess—this woman was indeed Faralis, referred to as a Demon Seed by Nylonde, but he hadn’t expected Faralis to be a royal, a princess of the Fan Hede Kingdom!

Furthermore, she wasn’t identified as a monster by his countdown perception, which indicated she was an extremely special individual—this was the first time Chen Ke had encountered such a case.

Looking at the current situation, the old King of Fan Hede had granted immense power to Mazville, the Pope of the Black Ring Sect, in an attempt to dispel the dark plague, so much so that not even members of the royal family were spared.

Faralis extended her left arm towards Chen Ke as if trying to grab him.

Sparks suddenly erupted from her feet. Chen Ke inwardly cursed, turned, and tried to dodge like a flash of red light. In the blink of an eye, Faralis had closed the distance, only lightly pinching Chen Ke’s right shoulder.

The sound of breaking bones and a wave of pain made Chen Ke believe his shoulder bone had been crushed. Faralis’s strength was utterly belied by her delicate appearance…

Her face came close to Chen Ke’s, and he felt his cheeks scalding from the flames on her body. At such a close distance, he could clearly see the teeth in Faralis’s mouth.

“Traveler through time… please extinguish the flame of Fan Hede…” Faralis said softly, her voice crisp, like that of a sylvan sprite.

“Extinguish the flame… What does that mean?” Chen Ke asked confusedly.

Faralis did not say more. She swung the two-handed sword behind her, its blade now glimmered with blue light. Then, she thrust it violently towards Chen Ke’s heart!

“Damn it!” Chen Ke cursed but could only watch as the long blade penetrated his body, stabbing deeply until only the hilt remained outside.

Chen Ke glanced down at the longsword embedded in his chest, yet he felt no pain. No, his life force wasn’t being drained… he felt no killing intent from Faralis at all.

The vortex mark on his chest seemed to have been stimulated, spinning wildly. The flames from Faralis poured into his body through the sword, reducing the Holy Relics coat he was wearing to ashes.

As the mark spun faster and his coat was burned away, Chen Ke realized that the sword hadn’t pierced his flesh at all. Logically, such a long sword, stabbed so deeply, should have protruded from his back, but it hadn’t.

Because the vortex mark on his chest had opened a palm-sized beam of light.

Faralis’s sword was not embedded in Chen Ke’s body but deeply inside this beam of light.

A familiar howling came from the beam of light in Chen Ke’s chest, his memory yanked back inside Black Box Space…

As the howls grew louder, seemingly pained, Chen Ke felt his body beginning to move beyond his control.

Faralis pushed hard against Chen Ke’s chest. As he was flung backwards, the beam of light flowed out from the vortex mark on Chen Ke’s chest, forming a three-meter high Teleportation Gate, which appeared for an instant then quickly closed.

Chen Ke saw a burst of Flame Burst before him and fell to the ground. His shoulder injury was immediately healed by his life force. When he looked at Faralis again, he was astonished to find that the longsword had impaled a contract demon!

“That thing was inside me? You’ve got to be kidding!” Terrified, Chen Ke hurriedly scrambled up from the ground.

The contract demon’s longsword pierced through the heart, and as it wailed in agony, Faralis was engulfed in flames, which together with the longsword, turned into countless flying ashes, pouring into the body of the contract demon.

The contract demon let out agonizing howls.

“+1 year”

“Lifespan has reached its limit…”

Damn it, to encounter it here of all places!

Chen Ke instinctively clutched his chest but couldn’t feel the mark’s presence. Looking down, he saw the vortex-like mark on his chest had changed from black to red, no longer tactile with unevenness, no longer like a vortex.

It was now a sun, ablaze and glowing with firelight.

The cooldown timer for the corner-of-the-eye Teleportation Gate was still ticking; he hadn’t lost the ability to open it, and there were only 3 minutes left until the cooldown ended.

To the current Chen Ke, the contract demon was still an unbeatable foe; however, influenced by Faralis, it had become somewhat abnormal.

Spotty flames ignited on the contract demon’s emaciated body, as if burning through from the inside, pain that was unbearable even for it.

Its chest still had a through-and-through bloody hole, the edges of which burned with residual flames, causing the contract demon’s movements to become extremely sluggish. Spitting fresh blood, it no longer had the imposing air it used to have in the Black Box Space.

Even so, the craving for a soul drove it to pounce fiercely toward Chen Ke.

Chen Ke spun and dodged with difficulty, evading its sharp claw, but his back was still raked with four bloody gashes, flesh scattering. Chen Ke fell to the ground in pain.

The contract demon swung its claws wildly, screeching as it closed in on Chen Ke. Turning toward it, Chen Ke snapped his fingers, releasing 9 hours’ worth of Spiritual Energy in a burst!

Even the contract demon was thrown back by this sudden burst of power. It flew through the air for nearly one meter before falling on the edge of the stone path, almost dropping into the Abyss.

“I get it… This time for sure, I’m taking your life!” Chen Ke stood up, supported by the continuous murderous intent of the contract demon, and snapped his fingers at it again.

“Bang!”

The contract demon was blown off the path before it could rise from the ground.

Chen Ke breathed a sigh of relief and used his lifespan to heal the wounds on his back, then walked to the edge of the path and looked down. Even a contract demon should be done for after falling from such a height…

Just as he was about to turn away, the life countdown suddenly began to palpitate violently again. Chen Ke raised his eyebrows, turned around, and the contract demon’s claw grabbed him in an instant.

It clung to the edge of the stone path with its other claw, trying to climb back up, but Chen Ke didn’t want to give it that chance.

“You owe me a soul!” The contract demon continued to roar angrily at Chen Ke.

Just then, in the upper right-hand corner of Chen Ke’s vision, it showed that the cooldown time for the Teleportation Gate was over! A bold idea flashed through his mind.

“I don’t owe you anything, freak,” Chen Ke said and snapped his fingers at the contract demon’s face.

With a “bang,” holding onto Chen Ke, the contract demon flew into the air and plummeted toward the Abyss. The Van Hede straight sword in Chen Ke’s hand also slipped and fell.

A demon and a man fell through the dark void, the wind howling past their ears. Chen Ke clutched the demon’s claw, adjusted his position, and managed to turn so that his back faced downward.

After falling for over 12 seconds, there was no light around them; Chen Ke felt as if he had truly descended into the Abyss. Just then, the Sun Mark on his chest let off spark-like embers, and an orange-red door emerged behind him, just large enough for him to pass through.

“Bang!”

With a loud crash, Chen Ke unexpectedly landed on a wooden floor, and the contract demon’s claw also reached through the Teleportation Gate.

“Close!”

With a clench of his fist, the gate immediately shrank from its door-sized form to a pinpoint, twisting and severing the contract demon’s claw, splashing red blood across his abs and pectorals.

The orange Teleportation Gate pinpoint floated in front of Chen Ke for a moment before it zipped into the Sun Mark on his chest, and the previously flickering mark returned to calm.
