Chapter 68: Chapter 68: The Duke’s Heir VS The Underdog Female Supporting Character (Part 8)

“Damn it! That little slave actually escaped! If we can’t catch him today, we are probably going to get slaughtered when we get back!” a burly man cursed and swore.

They were all guards of the underground beast-fighting arena, and they had been busy preparing for next month’s final duel. Who would have known that today, a slave meant to be a sacrifice would break through all barriers and run away!

They were the ones responsible for supervision, and if they were discovered to have lost a person, the consequences wouldn’t be pleasant.

“Hey! Look at that.” One of them spotted Eve crouching in a corner of the wall.

Another person instantly understood what he meant—after all, they were just slaves used for cannon fodder. If the numbers matched up, that was all that mattered—no one would notice what a slave looked like…

“What are you doing? Let me go!” Eve Taylor never expected that these people would turn their sights on her.

“Kid, don’t be nervous. The big guys are taking you to a nice place, guaranteed that you’ll eat and drink well!” Just behave for a few days, good for being fodder for the arena’s precious beasts.

“Don’t resist, follow them.” A mysterious voice suddenly reached Eve’s ears.

The mysterious person had his own considerations. He was currently severely weakened and knew that with Eve’s skills, there was no way to escape from these people. It would be better to follow them for now, so he could take the time to recover his strength. When the time came to escape with her, he would be more confident.

Eve quietly calmed down.

Those burly men thought that their words had convinced the little beggar, and they exchanged smiles.

They soon reached number two.

On this day, Gu Shengyin still got up early to practice her morning exercises and then had a meal with her parents.

Not long after they finished eating, the butler came to inform them that the carriage of the Bill Family had stopped outside the Duke’s mansion.

“Good morning, Your Grace the Duke, good morning, beautiful Duchess.” Lilith gave the Duke and his wife a standard curtsy.

Madam Roman’s beautiful face was filled with smiles. She quite liked Lilith, such a passionate young girl, and sometimes felt distressed thinking about her daughter and her husband’s chilly expressions that were so much alike.

“Good morning, Lilith. Are you here to see our Nika?” she asked gently. @@novelbin@@

Lilith seemed a bit restrained, “Yes, Madam. We agreed to go out together today.”

“Well then, Nika, are you ready? Don’t make your friend wait too long,” the Duchess said.

“Mama, I’ve been ready for a while,” Gu Shengyin replied.

The two said farewell to the Duke and Duchess and boarded the carriage.

It wasn’t until the carriage’s shadow had disappeared from the sight of Gu Shengyin and Lilith that the Duchess turned to her husband with slight reproach, “Look what you’ve done with your stern face. You’ve scared the girl to bits! She is usually such a lively young lady. Poor Lilith.”

The Duke looked at his wife helplessly, “Nana, you know that wasn’t intentional.”

The Duchess teased with a wink, “Then, Your Grace the Duke of White Rose, would you care to give us a smile?”

The Duke: …

Lilith pulled Gu Shengyin onto the carriage.

“That scared me to death!” Lilith exaggeratedly patted her chest, “I’m more frightened in front of His Grace the Duke than when seeing the Supervising Elder at the academy!”

The Supervising Elder at the Carter Royal Academy was the sternest old man, specifically in charge of student discipline. He was always impeccably dressed in his black robe, and his face, full of wrinkles, always carried a mocking expression. He was the last person students wanted to encounter.
